They give a talk two weeks after a DFing announcement to warn about the specific DFing offense?
I'm not sure if that's true.
Can anyone verify this?

Elder's WIFE in college!
by hardhearted ini bet this is different than a minor child in college... i can only hope that the new information from the co will cause a lot of jw's and elders to scratch their heads and consider what exactly is going on here.
if this information causes an exodus of elders... that is very good.
imagine, an elder being removed because his wife is in college.

As I've said before, we should tell everyone we can that the JWs is a religion that REQUIRES that their leaders discourage their family members from getting a higher education - at the threat of the loss of their positions.
How insane does that make them sound??

all those books
by runningonfaith inmy wt librery is going in the recycle bin a little at the time.what did you do with the wt books?

Ah, they can be valuable.
I sold a few duplicates to a religious book dealer 10 years ago - and made about $130! There were a couple he was especially interested in do to inaccurate quotes that made them infamous among collectors.
I had a pocket sized, leather bound set of the Studies in the Scriptures that he didn't even know existed!

Did anyone get told that they 'think about things too much'?
by jambon1 inin the very early days of my explaining to certain witnesses my doubts, i kind of ran through all of them.
they probobly merged into one big hodge-podge of apostate doubting nonsense.
- the nephilim penis size, the animals in the ark, the she bears killing the kids, davids baby being killed by god for his adultery, jesus sacrifice not really being a sacrifice, the torture of jw's in the camps, appointment of elders, the changing doctrines.........but more than a few elders/rank & file witnesses told me that i "think about stuff too much".

Yeah. Heard that a lot.
Jehovah's Witnesses - where higher education has to be discouraged and thinking is a bad thing!
The WTS contains the very seeds of its own destruction right there, me thinks!
Oops, thinking too much again!

The growing irrelevance of the Watchtower message
by drew sagan inin many ways it appears as if the watchtower movement is slowing down.
a number of changes over the last few years certainly show that the watchtower is in a period of transition.
they have cut back on the number of magazines they print as well as lowered the cost of production by eliminating things like hard backed books.

Nice thread,?Drew.
My ex-wife, a JW since the 1950s, told me the other day, "It's happening all around the Earth just like it's supposed to." I assumed she was talking about the earthquake and wars. That's what the WTS is pushing now. The fear.
You can only run on fear and expectations of immediate biblical events for so long with nothing happening, and I think the WTS has pushed it to the limit and beyond.

I think the Let God Be True book was pretty much obsolete by the time the Truth book was being used. I can't remember what other book was studied then. I really don't have my library here with me. It's still at my ex-wife's house.

well, children are mature enough to take a stand in behalf of the kingdom
by aligot ripounsous ini heard this morning the "who will be saved (n 126) " public talk.
the speaker raised the point of age baptism and he confirmed what has been pointed out a couple of times on this board, namely that, according to a trend which seems to be fairly recent within the wts, people don't have to be adults to decide they want to become jws and get baptism.
the only two examples which the speaker selected were 2 children : manaseh who, at age 12, promoted idolatry, and king yoshia who restored jehovah's worship as soon as he came to power at age 8 !

I was baptized at 11, my ex-wife at 12, my JW daughter at 12.
Too, too young to make that decision. 30 sounds good to me. I'm hoping my 11 yo granddaughter doesn't get baptized for many, many years.

any new updates regarding "higher" education ?
by lancelink init seems that within the last two weeks comments regarding the thought that elders and ms would be demoted if their.
children went to college was pretty popular.. i mentioned this to quite a few "on the edge" witnesses who are really pro-education and they were really interested in learning more about this, or hearing it from the .
platform, magazine, or co (who just left last week.).

Missing Link,
I'm sure various COs are putting their own spin on this, but this is definitely in the outline that the CO goes over with the BOE during his visit.
I'm in contact with an elder who resigned over this. And it is also verified that this is the same info COs are going over worldwide.
The elder you talked with may not have had his CO visit yet. I find it hard to believe that any CO would not discuss this, even if he disagreed with it.
lancelink - That sort of thing makes me angry. So many good minds going to waste in Watchtowerland. One of my greatest regrets is not encouraging my daughter to go to college. Super bright girl - and today the only of my kids still a Jdub.

Let God Be True! Yes! We studied that and my parents were baptized in March 1963. I was baptized six months later in October. I was 11 years old.
JCanon.Oh boy. The ex-JWs have almost as many wackos as the JWs!
I have a very complete collection of JW literature, going back to the Studies in the Scriptures. I started collecting as a teenager, and apart from the yearbooks, I have all but a dozen or so of the WTS's books.

REM show last night... my critique
by dawg inin art, there can be no wrong opinions, we like what we like and have to offer no explanation for what we like and/or do not like.
that said... my take on last night's rem concert at lakewood amphitheater.
ok, so i'm an athenian, that means i'm supposed to love all things athens, georgia is about; but i've never been a big rem fan... in fact, when i was offered front row tickets given by the band themselves, i really didn't want to go.

The last big name I paid to see was Bob Dylan, and spent most of the night staring at the asses of the people in front of me, who were all standing up through most of the show. I decided right then and there that $75 was too much to pay to see just about anybody. But, as a newspaper writer, and I do a lot of A&E writing, I get free passes to concerts and festivals all the time. I love live music, but I hate paying a fortune to see it! Also, there is a huge amount of great music on the tier below folks like REM or Dylan, etc. That's where I spend most of my time. Dawg - glad you didn't pay. I just saw a video of REM in a recent concert. Not a big fan. S4
