I might have mentioned this before but something in another thread just reminded me. An assembly hall was built in the bristol area of England around 10 years ago. It was coming to completion and a governing body member was going to dedicated the hall(how the hell do you do that!). To make the hall look nice some very prominent brothers wanted to complete the grounds by planting some trees. They were told by experts that it was the wrong time of year to plant and the trees would die. They went ahead and spent somw where between £15-20,000 on the trees. They died. Now think of that in terms of elderly brothers and sisters putting their contributions in and how there money was just thrown away to impress a GB member. I wonder what other grand wastes of money go on at Bethel itself?

C.T. Russell Claimed Modern Inventions Were Harbingers of the Millennium
by Kenneson inthe april 15, 1915 zion's watch tower, page 126 has an interesting brief article entitled "the typewriter and progress" that is certainly worth perusing.. "amongst the great inventions of our day is the typewriter.
it came upon the market just forty years ago, in 1874, as a merchantable and usable convenience, after having been seven years in process of development.
the bible, we believe, marks the same year, 1874, as the beginning of the harvest of this age.

"the time of the end [when] many will run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased." This must be from the start of the olimpic games in greece in 1896.Lots of running to and fro! Seriously since when has Knowledge not incresed? There have been barren moments in History (Dark ages) but in general knowledged has increased as time has gone on ,how are the inventions of today any more significant than those of past centuries? When was gravity discovered? The Roundness of the earth? The fact that we orbit the sun?Electricity, trains ,steam engines , flow of blood , printing press , books writing , houses, the wheel, clothes,farming...............

Now you dont believe the Bible , which characters sound dodgy?
by sleepy inwhen you stop believing the bible to be the word of god the motives behind the actions of gods prophets and followers come across rather differently.
in fact much like fundlmentlists today.you have joshua comiting genocide , and paul moving in and tacking control of the christians and changing the religion to his own beliefs.
which other characters actions can be interpreted differenly when you see them just as ordinary humans with more selfish motives?

The Internet and Apostasy
by CakeMonkey inhas the internet and forums like these caused an exodus from the j-dubs?
when i left in the early 1990s i met support groups through the yellow pages but it still felt like i was the only one in the world who was an apostate.
i've come to this forum in the last year to browse because my brother has now left.

I think the internet has made it easier for people to confirm their doubts about the wachtower org and made it easier for them to leave. But to look at aposate stuff on the internet you most probably are already having doubts.Maybe in the past people had doubts but found it hard to get the relevent information to confirm them so tagged along as token witnesses , now they can easily locate information regarding the watchtoer society.

Was Apostle Paul 1st Centaury Jehovah?s Witness?
by sleepy inlets play a game and assume the bible is true, and jesus came to earth and all that, and what he taught was the truth.
he left responsibility with his 12 apostles to look after his ?sheep?.
a few years later on some guy reckons he has had a vision and has been chosen by god he now as good as takes over the christian congregation and makes many of its rules and writes numerous books with his rules and ideas these are eventually included in the bible, were as the 12 disciples are virtually silent.

"What exactly are we assuming to be true in this exercise?" "Lets play a game and assume the bible is true, and Jesus came to earth and all that, and what he taught was the truth. He left responsibility with his 12 apostles to look after his ?sheep?" That the historical aspects of the bible are true and that a man called Jesus started a religious movment. Maybe I confused things a bit as the Books of paul are part of the Bible,.I'm looking with a critical viewpoint at Paul and wonering why Christians see no problem with following Paul teachings, when jesus left responsability with the 12 disciples.

This was the apostle Paul. So the question for you Bible believers is this, if you believe we should reject Jehovah?s witnesses as the true Christian congregation because they have claimed to be chosen for god without proof and have written many of there own books that teach beliefs different from the 1 centaury Christians mustn?t you also reject the apostle Paul for the same reasons?
