  I saw that too. My husband and I both burst out laughing, and my husband has never even been a JW.

  As dysfunctional as the Soprano's are, they look like Dr. Melfie compared to the JWs.

  if being a jw is what we should do to avoid the wrath of god then why did he kill my mum, slowly and painfully.

  Oh No More,

  I am so sorry your mum suffered so much before she died. I have been with many dear friends in the hospital as they suffered and suffered before death finally overcame them. In all of that time, I have never figured out why good people have to suffer so much. It hurts so terribly to see them in such pain and you know that you would cure them of it if only you had the power. If there is someone with that power, why would suffering like that go on? I would if I could. I don't know the answers to these questions either. I feel your hurt and loss just the same. My deepest sympathies to you.

  I think you missed the point here. Mr. Mouritz, the President of the Australia Branch, must be on our side. That's right. He must secretly be an apostate, because no real JW would be so stupid as to make statements like that to the press.

  This guy is so uninformed.

  "Child molestation is a social problem not scriptural," the man, who declined to give his name, stated. "Everybody is suffering from this (problem) not just us. You take it to the police. It's up to them."

  Exactly. So why didn't they take these cases to the police when they occurred instead of covering them up?

  When asked about the supposed database, the man replied, "I don't believe that. That's not true."

  The WTBTS has already admitted it has such a database, they just disagree about the number of records in it.

  Brown states: "You have been told that here in the United States we have compiled a list of 23,720 names of child abusers. That is false. First of all, the total number of names in our records is considerably lower."

  Its so sad that they are defending this when they don't even know the whole story. Tammy

  me, elsewhere, jesika and her sister spent about four hours today at a busy intersection (the same intersection where jesika did the press conference, right in front of the k.h.!

  What JWs are passing out in response to Silentlamb

  i was outraged when i read what a friend of ours was given him by 2 jws yesterday when he asked them the question about the child molestation issue.

  i can't belive the jws have the guts to pass this stuff out.

  the people we were with at lunch today all looked at it and was replused at the wt's reply.. what do you think?.

  Is it just me, or does this read as being matter-of-fact and without compassion for the victims. They do mention this:

  Child abuse is abhorrent to us. This is in harmony with the principle recorded at Romans 12:9. Even one abused child is one too many.

  But then go on to tell of the articles they wrote about it. It sounds detached and clinical. Who uses the word "abhorrent" these days? It sounds like the only reason they are against child abuse is because of what it says in Romans 12:9. Many people they are giving this to have probably never read Romans 12:9, they just know it's plain wrong. Most people don't need to have the Bible tell them that this is a heinous act!

  Then they go on to explain their convoluted procedures for handling it.

  If the accused denies the charge, the two elders may arrange for him and the victim to restate their position in each other's presence, with elders also there.

  Isn't that a wonderful thing for the poor little kid to look forward to? Can you believe that? What parent would let this asshole anywhere near their child regardless of whether there are two elders there or not? Nobody in the "world" thinks this way. They are not going to win any awards with this approach.

  This really pisses me off too:

  Suppose, for example, that a long time ago a 16-year-old boy had sexual relations with a consenting 15-year-old girl. Depending upon the U.S. jurisdiction where he lived when this happened, elders may have been required to report this as an incident of child abuse. Let us say that 20 years have passed. The child abuse reporting law may have changed; the man may have even married the girl! Both have been living exemplary lives and they are respected. In such a rare case, the man could possibly be appointed to a responsible position within the congregation.

  They are equating child molestation with a case of statuatory rape where both partities were consentual, eager, and willing in the incident. What absolute trash! They are implying that it's wrong to condemn these guys because the victims got some sort of enjoyment from it too! Absolute utter HOGWASH! What an archaic and chauvanistic view that the victim enjoys the rape as much as the rapist!

  Wouldn't it have been better to say something like,

  Child abuse is sickening to us. That this could have happened in our past is very horrible. We are reviewing our procedures for handling these matters in the future so that they can be brought to the attention of the authorities immediately. We are going to cooperate with these authorities fully so that they can make the appropriate determination of guilt or innocence. We will abide by the decisions of the courts of the land. We are grieved that this has happened and hope to work with the victims to help them cope with this terrible tragedy.

  This kind of stuff just burns me up. They just don't get it. Sadly, I don't think they ever will.

  it is a scarey thing to go into the hospital and i know your nerves must be getting to your right now.. tink, i am sure everything will work out fine and i hope that you have a speedy recovery.

  Paths along the way, after the borg, experiences?

  many have just begun their journey since leaving the borg, only recently.

  others have put it far behind them many years ago, even decades they have been away from it.

  Depression and Dubs

  since i have found this forum i have been doing a lot of online looking, particularily spying on what the dubs have to say about all the negative attention they have been getting in the news of late and through the internet in forums such as this.

  i did a quick search on msn communites and came across over 70 online jw communities.

  one particular posting on one community (#1 rated jw community on msn if anyone desires to look it up) i read a message thread on depression.

  I just read your posting in which you write: "Depression is also situational and/or can result from cognitive dysfunction (in otherwords, irrational thoughts and thinking patterns)."

  Could you be a bit more precise on what you mean by "irrational thought and thinking patterns" and what source you got this information from?

  Recognizing many years ago that I had a serious need for counseling and that prayer by the elders was not going to help my depression or my medical condition, I went to a counselor made available by a work plan provided by my employer. She recommended the book "Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy" by David D. Burns, MD to help me recognize the dysfunctional thoughts I was in the pattern of using. In the book Dr. Burns lists 10 different kinds of cognitive dysfunctions that many depressed people are guilty of. IMO, many of these thought patterns are found in Jehovah's Witnesses because the same kind of twisted reasoning is used in their literature.

  Here, in a nutshell, is Dr. Burns list. Please refer to his book for a complete examination of these issues.

  1. All-or-Nothing Thinking.
  2. Overgeneralization.
  3. Mental Filter.
  4. Disqualifying the Positive.
  5. Jumping to Conclusions.
  a. Mind Reading
  b. The Fortune Teller Error
  6. Magnification (Catastrophizing) or Minimization
  7. Emotional Reasoning
  8. Should Statements
  9. Labeling and Mislabeling
