  i've met these guys on the streets of sydney, doing their witnessing.

  the poor cult member has to forsake job, family, etc, and buy various tracts and comics to later "give away" for a "donation" on street corners.

  they will work for food but not money - they forsake employment to witness the way they say jesus told his disciples to.

  They even say the reason the Witnesses are despised is because they witness. No mention of parents being forced to murder their children by not receiving appropriate medical treatment, or the paedophile haven that is the Kingdom Hall here!

  it seems as though i have become stuck in a very deep rut.

  The courts are there to make sure the children play nicely with each other. Surely you can sue for breach of contract! Can't you make some deal to get the Dubs out of the building - your presence isn't exactly something they'd want, either? Can "poor treatment" be legally seen as harrassment?

  Yep, documentation is the only thing that will give the edge to the anti-Tower alliance. That can come in many forms - court cases against the abuse sanctioned by the WBTS is one of them.

  On the subject of documentation, I asked this question before and don't remember receiving an answer. When the new Pay Attention book comes out, how long before it's up on the web? And it MUST be on the web! There is no greater symbolic victory against the Tower than to have their secret "Old Boys' Network" manual delivered up to the public for all to see. If the new one doesn't end up on the net, then it will seem like the "once effective" white-anting network which sort to undermine the Tower is no longer so powerful.

  In studying both the Kingdom Interlinear and Emphatic
  Diaglott Interlinear I noticed a conflict when rendering
  the koine for "house". In most all instances (38 times)
  when describing a "house of worship" the Greek word is
  "oikou", oikov" or "oikouc".

  In all other instances (118+/-) when describing a person's
  house or in just talking about "a" house the Greek words
  are "oikia" or "oikiav" and two or three times "oikaw".

  Is there a real difference between these words? The WT
  states in their foreward that they went to great lenghts
  to NOT use the same English word to describe two different
  Greek ones.

  In Attic Greek the two words ("oikia" being of the first declension and "oikos" being of the second) had slightly different nuances of meaning ("oikos" being the property as an estate left after death, while "oikia" was the place dwelt in, but in Koine they came to be virtually interchangeable. "House" is an adequate translation of both words, unless context suggests differently.

  I found it extremely hard to figure out how to transliterate some words so that the dictionary would have an answer. Hopefully things have changed since then (I've got all the lexicons in book form now, so haven't needed to use this resource for some time).

  "Oikous" is simply the accusative plural form of "oikos".

  And no, I don't know if the moron who wrote this crap is on the JW payroll.... If he's not, the standard of journalism and source critics are less than desireable!

  I just hope he receives something from the WBTS for his troubles - perhaps an honorarium.

  As for journalistic standards, it's really easy to write something up if you only approach one source for info - you just really should be careful about the source!

  Must agree with PLH here. I always watch Leno's Headlines on Tuesday night (by the time it gets here), but very little else. I do watch the monologue, and find that it's actually a great way to keep up with the US news (CNN sucks! - I miss BBC World sometimes). I find Letterman too sarcastic and, well, New Yorkie! (Conan too). We never had pay tv when Johnny Carson was around, so I never got to see the great man in action (although there was some show from the seventies called Carson's Comedy Classics on the midnight to dawn tv slot about 15 years ago!).
