JW's and not having real friends

i have been a jw my whole life and am just realizing now that i have no friends.

the 1 or 2 good friends that i had as a child have since moved away and now i am stuck trying to make friends with people in the hall that i am in that don't want anything to do with me cuz i'm not a ms, elder or pioneer.. it's weird, because i look at facebook or other sites where people talk about their day or what they have been doing and it seems like people "in the world" have a lot of friends and have a good/happy life.. i think that the jw's are so busy with all of the wtbs stuff that they don't have the energy to take time to be friends with others.. i am sad...cuz i don't see a way to get any realy friends as too much of my family is in the "truth" and i'm stuck in it .

SO MANY of us can sympathize with your predicament! After 30 years of complying with WTS requirements on not having "worldly friends" I found myself in the same situation. The WTS had slowly kept me so busy with THEIR pursuits and obeying THEIR ideas on friendship, that all my nonJWs friends and relatives had been slowly and methodically eased out of my life.

I look back and see NOW that they had planned it this way all along. They do want WANT any JW to have ANY love, companionship OR support other than with other JWs. It is just one more "tiny thing" they neglect to tell you when one is "studying with JWs", and one that they know will stand over your head if you think of leaving.

You have gotten some excellent suggestions on how to go about breaking ground to finding NEW friends, and I can't think of a thing I could add to what has already been said......except to say that to BE a friend, will do wonders to FIND a friend. I wish you the very best in doing this!

I'm mad!!!

i just recieved a call that a man about my age is dying .

he has cancer .

anyway my mom works for his mom and he is her only living child.

(((Crapola))) I am so sorry that you are feeling angry at the turn of events....and you do have every right to feel this way. Please don't think I am in any way trying to minimize your feelings, but we humans simply do not know why certain things happen to some nice and caring people, and others seem to live their lives for themselves only, and never seem to suffer any consequences.

It is unfair and it is this frustration that tends to eat away at us....with good reason. We cannot SEE the entire picture of things and cannot see what lies ahead, Sometimes awful things have a way of bringing out the best in others.

This is where our faith comes into play and will sustain us during these times. I don't wish to get into any heated debate now, with posters on the "why's and wherefore's" of faith, either we have it or we don't. I'm not here to PUSH my faith on this post. I merely wanted to present another view on this and send kind words and a hug.

"Lie To Me"---A New FOX Program All About a JW Killer

did any of you see the new program lie to me starring tim roth?

it's similar to the mentalist.

the 1st episode had a young jw teen accused of killing his teacher.

I watched it too. While it was airing, I told hubby that here we are into the first eight minutes and I have heard three distinct mistakes in the dialogue that JWs do not typically say or think. (These have already been brought out here by Blondie and Poppers). It sure shot the credibility factor down early on, IMHO.

There are so many valid points the viewing public should be made aware of: such as on their cruel shunning, how they really view "worldly people" as below them and unworthy of their friendship, and on how they utilize their "Theocratic Warfare" to tell THEIR TRUTH to whomever THEY feel is deserving.....but unfortunately, these don't play into making interesting script material for prime-time programming.

BIG NEWS! Leader of German Watchtower History Archives Resignes and Leaves Branch Office!

johannes wrobel, the founder of the watchtower history archives in germany, responsible for the stand firm-video and the stand-firm-exhibitions resigned in november 2008 and left the german branch office.

he was also the responsible person for many of the wt sponsored websites on jw in the 'third reich'!.

there are no further details known yet but this could be big news!.

Keeping Nathan Natas' words in mind, it will still be interesting to see what (if anything) actually comes about with this development.

Slumdog Millionaire

this movie was apparently loved by a lot of regular movie-goers and critics alike.

kelly ripa raved about it on the "live" show, and said it seeing it was a life-altering (or maybe she said life-changing) experience.

either way..... i saw it ....and it left me cold!

I saw it ....and it left me cold! I can't even say there were any particular "parts" OF it I enjoyed.

Has anyone else seen it yet and do you share my lack of enthusiasm for it?

Did I miss something that everyone else LIKED about it? Just curious----whaddya think?

Yes...I saw it. I thought it was quite good and would reccommend seeing it. Hugh Jackman wasn't too hard to take either!

here i sit in my living room, with no one to bubble at about this!.

at 53 i am committing to a bs in criminal justice.

i have no freaking idea what i will do with a degree at this stage of my life to be honest.

Jeff.....what a fascinating topic and an even MORE fascinating branch to be getting into! When my niece left the WTS, she went into this area, and she loved every aspect of it and had a very rewarding job when she graduated college.

I Am Confused & Disoriented

i'm grateful for the new site, but i just can't seem to get with the flow.. i'm dealing with a lot of other stuff - personal and job-related - so that is part of the problem.. does anyone else feel this way?

Yeah....Sylvia....I'm having a tough time adjusting to this format too. I just left a post to Mouthy concerning the same thing. I am trying not to get frustrated and hope MY bugs and my obvious lack of smarts will soon be ironed out so I can feel comfy here once again too.

Valentines' day stuff out already!

i've barely gotten over christmas, new year and 3 birthdays in a row.

and bam!

there is bloody valentine stuff already on the shelves.

Hubby had to run out to the village pharmacy and came back to tell me how the shelves were filled with Valentine's stuff and all the displays were everywhere. We feel the same way.....that we are all shopped out (and tapped out $) and still eating Whitman's Sampler chocolates one of our son's gave each of us a box for Christmas.

I LOVE the holidays and I am not a "bah humbug" kind of person.....but I am just not ready to think about another holiday quite so soon.
