i'm testing my hypothosis here.... the question is this.... "does the wt org.
get special revelations from god today.".
if they answer "yes," then they are going against the bible which says that all scripture is complete.. if the say "no," then we can say, "then why do you say we should follow you.".

for the past two months, i have been fighting one cold after another, but what seems to never leave is the burning in my nose and throat.
six days ago my doctor perscribed cephalexin 500mg (antibiotic), but so far i am still miserable.
while looking online, many websites want to sell their various cures, usually for about $35.00 us.
Hi, Jayhawk,
Sorry to hear you are having health problems. Nasal irrigation can really help out with conditions such as yours. WaterPic has a nasal irrigation attachment specifically for this purpose. The easy way is to mix up 1 quart of cooled boiled water with 3 teaspoons of canning salt (any grocery store) and 2 teaspoons baking soda. It will keep in the fridge for one week, and you only use about one cup at a time.
Heat to body temperature in the microwave just the portion you will be using, pour into WaterPic, use low spray setting, leaning slightly forward, spray into nostrils a little at a time, allowing to run out between sprays.
Sounds absolutely gross. But it can be a lifesaver. Literally.
Good luck and God bless.

jw's love to get involved in non-traditional treatments.
in many of the congregations, the study of iridology was practiced.
scores of "sick" people would have "parties" where they would come and get their eyes "read".
Mulan is right...In the hands of someone properly trained, many alternative therapies are legitimate and of great benefit. Fakes exist in every field, but not everyone is a fake.

i was raised jehovah witness.
i am not practicing at the moment!.
it's been over 15 years, that i don't attend the kingdom hall.. i have been married with a man that is a practicing seventh day adventist, and as everyone knows the conflicts in our beliefs are tremendous.. i don't agree with his beliefs and visa versa!.
A quick question...
How can you believe, based on the Bible, that God was somehow blindsided when the events in the Garden of Eden (i.e. Adam, Eve, snake, apple, Fall of mankind) happened, when the Bible itself says Christ was prepared to be the sacrifice for mankind BEFORE the Earth was even created or any people put on it?
1 Peter 1: 18 - 21
18 "Forasmuch as yet know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 "But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 "Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
21 ""Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God."
If God wasn't blindsided, as so many doctrines choose to teach, then perhaps His plan for this world was not so simple as people spending eternity taking care of a garden?

Yes, I would marry outside my race, and I did. We have four beautiful children of our own, and also had foster children and eventually adopted children.
My husband and I have no problem with the race issue...to us it doesn't exist. He is him, and I love him. I am me and he loves me. We don't see a pigmentation difference.
Where the problems come in, and have always been, and no doubt always will be, is in how outsiders view us. Many relatives dropped us from their invitations lists. Many won't admit they are even related at all. Many people at work, at church, in our neighborhoods, at school (including college since hubby and I both have advanced degrees), at the grocery store, the local K-Mart, the beach, the ski lodge, the restaurant, etc. have major problems seeing my husband and myself together. And when the children were with us...
In my naive innocence I believed if we were good, decent people of quality, refinement and education, we would be accepted anywhere. Not so. We have problems forced upon us and upon our children, and now our grandchildren that same-race couples never have to face. That still concerns and sorrows me, to this day. I expect it always will. It is not my problem, it is theirs, but they make it mine.
Would I marry him again?
YOU BET!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, Introspection!
I like your attitude! God bless me to always have friends and neighbors who think as you do!

Sorry to disagree also, Sleepy, but Christmas, like most of life, is what you make of it. If you choose to see it as sheer commercialism, feel free. That is your choice.
For me, I was blessed to have been raised to believe Christ is the reason for the season. Presents were something to look forward to, but even more eagerly anticipated were the Christmas pagents, the Christmas programs where we actually got to sing Christmas carols for our parents, the Nativity scenes in the town park, the whole town lit up with colored lights and decorations even draped across the main street, the cheerfulness people exuded as they prepared for Christmas eve and Christmas day, and all the other special memories that were part of my Christmas.
Sadly, many of these things are no longer allowed, thanks to those who sued and won the "right" to have my children deprived of many of these same experiences. I truly believe Christ is in the season, if you choose to see Him there. I taught my children to recognize in the common symbols of Christmas (i.e. the wreaths, the lights, the tree, the presents, the carols) how all those things are reminders of the Babe of Bethlehem and what He did for us because of His great love for all mankind.
I cannot be around JW family during the holiday season. It is the one time of year when I get angry over the hogwash they have been forced to swallow, and their utter contempt (spoken and unspoken)of my Christmas observances makes me want to just grab them, shake them until their teeth rattle and yell, "WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH YOU?????" That someone intentionally wrote doctrines that are so unBiblical as to make my JW relatives, whom I love, totally unable to recognize and rejoice in any of the beauties of this season infuriates me. Christmas is about Christ. IF you choose to let it be.
Hope this make at least some sense.

my youngest son brought this article to my attention.
very, very interesting.
it was in the seattle pi, yesterday, december 2.. student risks ire of mormons.
My goodness! Talk about a tempest in a teapot! Definitely must have been a slow news day when that story made its way to the forefront.
Yizuman...That "symbol" of the cross with a crown around it is NOT used by Mormons today for anything. It is not used in the Temples. Where in the Temple would such a "symbol" be used? What would its purpose be? I did wear a coat pin with that exact symbol on it though, as a child when I was Presbyterian. It was for perfect attendence at the Presbyterian Church for one year. Maybe you're thinking of them?
You also commented that you were told we "definitely shun" those who leave the Church. No. We don't believe in shunning. Individuals may for their own reasons choose not to remain friends with someone for reasons of their own, but it is definitely not Church policy to turn away from anyone in that manner.
You also said we shun those who "turned against them and went public." Well, no we don't shun them, either, but there wouldn't be much desire to spend time with them. Wouldn't you prefer to avoid contact with formerly close friends who turned on you and slandered your name without what you considered to be just cause? Their actions would be sharply painful to you, especially if they "went public" in accusing you of things you never said and never did in the first place, in a vain attempt to justify their own lack of character and integrity.
You said, "The ones who are inactive are not shunned though. They try to help them, and are kind to them." It has been my experience that most of us try to be kind to the ones who choose to leave the Church, to the disfellowshipped, and even the ex'd ones. They often need our love more than any of the others. We see the failure of one person as the failure of the entire congregation. The mood of the congregation is always one of sorrow and concern when someone is in trouble. We all ask ourselves what we might have done to have prevented them from following that path and what might we do to help them find their way back.
Sangdigger... You commented on knowing a lot of Mormons "who are practicing masons." You said Joseph Smith at the time of his murder gave the "masonic distress signal"... who said he did and what would such a signal look or sound like and to whom was he supposed to have given it and when? I've heard many supposed tales of that night, but nobody has ever answered this clearly for me. Perhaps you can.
As for the "handshakes and secret things they do" (masonic and Temple comparison) they actually originated with Temple of Solomon times, so neither the masons nor Joseph Smith came up with it. I have a link to a couple of sites discussing that in length should anyone care to have it. I believe they're still valid. Were last time I was there, anyway.
I enjoyed your comments, as always. This is a great site.

it was the point i decided to become agnostic.
i found my final stumbling block in my search for god.
i asked (myself as well as others): why would god create carnivorous animals before sin?
Well, it WAS a nice thread.

Excellent comments by everyone. So nice to see a thread that remains at a discussion level.
If, though, we take the assumption (from scripture) that the earth will again become a paradise like the Garden of Eden, and we are told that such a return to what once was means no sickness, no death, no animals eating people or other animals, then we must logically conclude that for a period of time, those same conditions existed previously on the earth, during a time commonly referred to as the Garden of Eden. King James refers to the animals at that time not as "wild" but as "beasts of the field". A subtle distinction, of course, but not necessarily alluding to anything wild or dangerous about them.
Dino's and evolution and natural nature of wild animals wouldn't enter the picture at all since, if the Garden existed at any time, God could create whatever parameters He so desired for that space and time, to suit His intent and purpose, no matter what was or had been going on in the rest of the world. The Garden was a unique settng in time and space.
Just a thought!
