There is a "target balance" to be maintained to cover expenses that are incurred in between assemblies. ("might include the costs associated with a circuit overseer’s residence, the anticipated travel cost of the branch representative, or the rental of a facility in connection with the next assembly")

"Expenses that will be incurred during the next assembly, such as a per-publisher contribution that is made for the use of an Assembly Hall, should not be included in the target balance"

Any excess funds are to be donated to the world wide work.

So you can see that the assembly should be starting with an account balance of 0 but also with a deficit in the amount of per-publisher contribution.

Funny thing about all of that is that yes, you can make an interest free loan to HQ if there are excess funds, but all excess funds over the target balance at the end of the assembly are to be donated to the WWW, so there should never be any money to loan in the first place. Maybe they would loan the "target balance" in between assemblies, it's all online and should be easy to give/get but the instructions are not specific as to how they would have extra money (they already have excess funds to www)

Good to see straight from the whoreses mouth that they are still doing the per-publisher charge. If only the pubs knew...

144000 The numbers don't add up

according to the bible teach book on page 78, it says, “since the days of the apostles, god has been selecting faithful christians in order to complete the number 144,000”.

What you fail to take into consideration is that 'baptism is a requirement for Christian discipleship' and that baptism is only valid if the person has accurate knowledge of god and his purpose. So anyone baptized into another religion has an invalid baptism. This was stated in a recent Watchtower study.

I'm not sure the exact year the WT took that stance of rejecting baptisms of other Christian sects but it was taught for a number of years that a fresh baptism was not necessary.

Considering the above, most of the early "anointed" would be in the position of not having a valid baptism and thus not actually anointed (oops!) I would also argue that a) since the JW versions of accurate knowledge changes every year, all prior JW baptisms are invalid and that b) since JWs always have inaccurate knowledge anyways, with their cult twisting of scriptures, that all of their baptisms are invalid according to their criteria.

So no worries, plenty of slots open then.. Assuming the millions of Christians coming before them didn't take all the slots already.

JW theology is so full of holes and discontinuity that it would be laughable if they didn't have such bad effects on people.

Incidentally, when I started heeding the admonition to read the bible daily, the 144k deal was one of the first obvious flaws that I noticed.

And you can find an example in the same book. I forget exactly where it which scripture is referencing but the section that talks about the one who has died being awaited from his sin... If you look at the context of the verse, it's clearly a figurative use, dying to the world (so to speak) and living for Christ.

Then there's the insane reasoning on blood, also in the same book - turning instruction that was given for the sake of not stumbling Jews into a law for all Christians for all time.

I'll stop with those 2 as its enough poison to recognize the danger.

The whole parable was in reply to a question: who is my neighbor?

immediately after the parable, Jesus asked "“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man..?" (the answer: “The one who had mercy on him.”)

So the lesson is that the neighbor is the one who makes himself a neighbor by showing mercy (although they mentioned mercy in the verses, obviously there is compassion, brotherly love etc too)

So keep that in mind when someone refers to the old "love your neighbor" line, it's basically the same as "love the one who shows you mercy"

To be fair, Jesus told the questioner to “go and do likewise" about showing mercy, essentially making yourself "neighbor" to others (then they will love you..?)

On the context that they gave, being written to a congregation with different cultures, essentially, at least several different xenos, the scripture would obviously have meant to be a xeno-phile, and not a xeno-phobe. Even the picture in the article was a great example of that idea but it was all lost in the gram ability of the bORG to twist things for their own (ab)uses.

I think it's worth noting here that during the release of the 2013 grey bible, one of the GB ( I think it was tight pants) hooked about twisting the scriptures... That was in reference to literally twisting the bible book to loosen the pages, but still, no shame.

Esse, that line is where there is firmly entrenched "science" doctrine. Army time you venture to information, experiments or suggestions that run counter to these dogmas, you crossed the line.

Lines can actually be crossed but as Max Planck said: A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it

Seriously though, they ate and became "like one of us, knowing good and bad". If they didn't do that, they/we would be living in perfect blissful ignorance. Ahhh.

I would imagine that a world full of perfect, undoing people would eventually digress into cannibalism as the deathless people vastly out do the supply of resources/food.

Maybe death is part of a stable system and necessary to prevent the above?

Or maybe earth man and rib girl never existed in the first place..?

Beliefs and life after disfellowshipped

it is normal for a person to review their beliefs, especially after such a traumatic event as disfellowshipped.i think that many here do not believe that god is leading jehovah's witnesses.. someone does not believe in god at all.i think it is good when we can be free in our views, no matter how much they are, without the pressure from any organization that teaches us to "true" believe.so, now i read many books on the history of the bible text and found that there is no foundation to be sure that at least one true words after 500-year history of rewriting has reached us.

if you wont find more info about this - googledbart ehrman book or nestle-alland new testament, where every words have many variant.for start read thisi read grat biological works, as dawkins "great show on the earth" and other (into russian lang) and i do not have any reason believe into creation.but, i still belive ino any abstract god-like force, without any "book based" reason.what do you believe in today?

why?please do not condemn each other's faith - we have gone through a rather difficult path..

Pimo here, so not DFd but definitely post-JW in mind and heart.

While walking up, I thought that JW was just another satanic false religion but that the bible was still what I was taught.

Then I woke up more, to the inconsistencies in the bible, though I think there are some good points there, but nothing you couldn't think of yourself if you just tried for 5 minutes to figure out how nor to be a jerk to people.

Now, I would say that a non-materialist maya / simulation / matrix based reality is most likely, based on my own experience and experiments. Hopefully soon Tom Campbells' experiments will show this on a deeper and more objective level.

While this view doesn't specifically exclude or include a deity as creator of our reality as we experience it here, I don't find deities to be necessary or functional.

I theorize that if the simulation idea is correct, certain groups of people have known for a very long time and are in fact tasked with keeping the masses so distracted (religion, endless media, violence, wars, just making a living etc) that they barely have time to focus on personal growth and on truth seeking. Why? Because when a billion (or 7) people wake up in a way similar to Jim Carey, the whole thing gets dangerous for everyone (I love Jim but I think his loss of a sense of purpose has left him feeling lost, now multiply that by a few billion)

The ones tasked with keeping everyone in line and distracted would be handsomely rewarded of course, living the good life.. money, power etc.. otherwise what would be the personal impetus to cooperate.

The ones in the know would be few and at the top, even if their minions may also be monied and powerful, they need not know but if the core purpose is ever forgotten (not passed down from generation to generation) then we should likely see the top powers fade away, getting less oppressive and more inclusive over time.

You are free to dismiss this as musings of a red pill-er though.

Foetus baptism

and the watchtower explains the greek word bre'phos "infancy" as follows: "...it is generally used of an unborn child.

Considering that a recent study article reinforced the official position of no infant baptism and that the baptisee should have accurate knowledge of good and his purpose (they unknowingly nullified every JW baptism with that one tho) otherwise the baptism doesn't count. Because of this,I don't think it will change any time soon.

If it does change the way you suggest, they may simply have the pregnant woman go into the baptism pool chest deep, enough to cover the location of the womb.

I think it could happen. It would either keep more kids in the bORG from birth on into adulthood.. or you may lose more kids to DFing than would be the case if they were not held responsible just yet.. because of... well we know how kids are... And those kids probably wouldn't go back to the bORG.. Roll of the dice there but the GoBo is not above that so who knows.

according to jw’s what qualifies you to become an elder and who does the appointing?

There's quite a lack of consistency in applying the rules.. My guess is someone(s) didn't like you (or liked someone else more.. like maybe family members - there's a lot of that too)
