So, what do you think is worse:

1) The fact that they are half (or non) enlightened.
2) That they don't live in the real world.
3) That they surround themselves with selfish pleasures.
4) Bestowing their teachings on the unwary.
or
5) That they constantly sacrifice the truth.

I think they're all pretty dubious. But number 5 has to be the worst, closely followed by 3, then 4, then 2 and 1 last.

I think 2 and 1 don't matter as long as a "teacher" keeps quiet about their asinine views...who cares how out of touch or unenlightened someone is, as long as they don't push it on others.

I thought this was an amazingly apt summary of an Org we all know. But I think, as it says, there is no shortage of this type of person (or group) in our world. It's obviously been like this for 1000's of years, since this was written and before.

Differences between JW's in different countries?

I think it emphasises something that I've been wondering about. I've heard many stories about people being "hounded" by elders, and almost "driven" out of the organisation. Most of these seem to come from the USA.

It seems to be VERY different here in Australia. The "laid-back" Aussie Elder just doesn't seem to make the effort to do this sort of "hounding" of the dubs. I know the elders (or anyone else for that matter) in my old Congregation can hardly be bothered to see me to "check" on what I'm doing. I've had a few visits, but they've certainly never been hounding.

Just wondering how different the effects of the JW top-down pressure is in different countries. As ozzie's quote says, it just doesn't seem to work as well here in Australia.

this quote is rather interesting..."no paid clergy".... but notice what it doesn't say...yes there is a clergy, just that they're not paid!.

Where do you stand?

i keep coming across posts of people who appear to be sympathetic to the jws.

instead of calmly explaining their position, they start spewing obscenities or cursing or harass people they disagree with.. if these people were "christian" or a "loyal jw" they would not do these things.

this leaves me confused.

Plus, I have always noticed that the "weakest" JWs feel the need to defend said Org the most heavily.

And, of course, those "weak" Jdubs don't have the mental conditioning to either explain their point of view properly, or keep them from using rudeness and obscenities to get their point (or lack of point as the case may be) across.
