  no troubles leaving the JW

  do you know of former jw who were able to just leave the 'truth' and not being severely effected by that move?

  are there any former jw who had no troubles after leaving?

  I do beleive you are right. I joined the cult when I was 24 and stayed in for 30 years. I feel like I have "returned" to the life I had left behind. Whereas my son is 29 and was raised a JW as was his wife. They have stepped out into a whole new world and it has been a little scary for them. It is kind of like moving to another country and learning new customs and language. They aren't real comfortable with it yet. They are doing Christmas for the first time and don't seem real sure of themselves about it. I think it is harder when there is no past outside of the borg to use as a reference.

  We moved across country and just stopped going to meetings and we have had no problem. As far as being affected goes, you can't leave the organization without losing friends and sometimes family. Although, if they were REAL friends, they would not have dropped us when they knew we didn't go to meetings anymore. All friendship in the borg is conditional. There is always emotional damage in leaving.

  I don't hate JWs. I hate the organiation that manipulates them. I hate the organization that protects pedophiles. I hate the organization that destroys families. It is evil and there is only one way to feel about that.

  i have never been on a forum before.

  i was very happy to find this one while i was doing my research finding out the truth about the religion & just trying to heal from such a damaging religion.

  i was raised in it from birth by a devout witness mother.

  WELCOME! I, too, found that this forum validated my feelings that something was seriously wrong with the borg. Even though I could not be a part of it anymore (I just couldn't force myself to go to one more meeting) I still wondered "if they were right". Everything I learned here made me sure I had done the right thing by walking away.

  I, too have been drawn to the metaphysical. I have no interest in belonging to another religion. I see the metaphysical as a larger understanding of what life is all about. There are several other members here who share that view.

  PANIC ATTACKS

  just interested to know.....do any here suffer from "panic attacks" or have done so in the past?

  It seems that a couple of times per year I go through a period of anxiety that lasts for many weeks and the panic attacks will flair during those times. I find that some supplements help me, mainly Magnesium, St. John's Wort, Valerian and Selenium. In fact, low Selenium levels can cause the whole thing. If I slack off on taking them I will start to feel really wired. I have a hard time driving in heavy traffic during those times because I feel like a panic attack is going to strike any minute.

  This sort of thing tends to be genetic. I have a couple of siblings with the same thing. And they were never JWs.

  I tried the prescription stuff and all I got from that was a dry mouth and dead sex drive.

  Have you ever been in a car accident?

  just curious how many people have been the driver in a car/motorcycle accident.

  i've been driving for 12 years now and have up and down the east coast numerous times, across country and up and down the west coast numerous times.

  plus my commute to work for the past 2 years is 95 miles round trip.

  Been in several. All were the other driver's fault. That is where I get my name "Target" from. I feel like I am driving around with one on my car.

  I have been driving for 40 years and was never at fault in any accident.

  I was broadsided when I was driving a school bus. The woman said she didn't think I was coming her way. There was no other way but up. She had no insurance. Yep, I have some stories.

  I guess this birthday is special, kind of. I get my age 55 senior discount. Better than nothing, as they say.

  When I was a kid and not yet sucked into the JW cult, I really hated my birthday because being six days before Christmans, people we big on saying "Here, this is for your birthday AND for Christmas." Even when I was dating my husband in high school, he pulled that one on me. His birthday is in November and I thought about saying that same thing to him and see how he liked it.

  But now all the years have gone by and he has a grey mustache and I don't, so I guess I came out ahead.

  An excellent Chiropractor in Wisconsin who we went to always used this method of muscle testing and it diagosed things the doctors missed, like my son's peptic ulcer being caused by a dairy allergy when he was six years old. The doctors tested him and said he was not allergic to dairy but the muscle testing said he was and when I took him off all dairy the ulcer healed right up. Just one of many, many stories about the procedure.

  there is christmas music blaring out in every shopping centre now, it started in mid-november.

  it works a treat, reminds everyone to get spending.

  most of it is rubbish, i feel so sorry for shopworkers having to listen to that for 7 weeks.
