These assemblies are not different than any large church gathering. That is the purpose of them. Just as the mega-churches gather thousands of people together and get them all riled up and emotional, so do the assemblies. I used to cry at the dramas too, and that was when I knew it was all bull. The mob mentality takes over and you get drawn into the energy and adrenaline rush. I also noticed I felt that way at a rock concert! Of course I didn't find that out until I stopped being a JW and went to one. Dummy me thinking it was Jehovah's spirit all that time.

My experience at the District Convention today - Appreciate your comments
by BonaFide ini know i am the one to constantly harp on this board how the organization has lost its "swagger" and the baptism and attendance is going down, and people are waking up.. not so fast.. the audience cried, i mean a lot of people cried when they played some of the songs from the new songbook.
some had bethel singers who sounded pretty good singing them.
so many after the program were saying how touched they were.. then the new release of the book showing how the book of acts prefigures the organization today.

Pagan Decorations Allowed in Society's Buildings?
by compound complex inin search of christian freedom, ray franz, pages 274, 275.. .
i recall that when the watch tower society purchased a former motion picture theatre in queens, new york, for use as an assembly hall, the theatre had an ancient egyptian motif throughout.
over the marquee, the front of the building had large tiles depicting various egyptian gods and goddesses, one even carrying the crux ansata.

Thank you all. I searched on the WT official site and found nothing. I knew you guys would know. I asked because I watched the Tavis Smiley "PRINCE" interview a couple of nights ago and Prince flat out claimed to be a Witness, yet spoke highly of a boxing great, and said he likes to watch. I knew that this had been an issue in my household.
If only I'd been allowed to participate in any type of sport when I was growing up...I may have gotten a scholarship or at the least been slightly well-rounded. Instead I got to be an outcast, introverted, bullied, shy, scared child. What fun!

I seem to remember articles concerning JWS not being allowed to watch or participate in boxing matches because of how violent they are. I did a search yet can't seem to find anything. Anyone remember this?

4/26/09 Parade Magazine question about Serena Williams/JW's
by frozen one inq: how does tennis star serena williams justify wearing such sexy clothes when she's a jehovah's witness?
- ron ryden, riverview, fla.. a: the winner of 10 grand slam singles titles dresses conservatively when attending kingdom hall services, but there's no religious dress code preventing her from wearing revealing clothes on or off the court.. .
i wonder who wrote the answer to that question because that is not how i remember the jw "dress code.

I found another article. And if they are indeed NOT JWS, why do they keep answering questions as if they are?
Sexual Harassment
—How to Protect Yourself
http://www.watchtower.org/e/19960522/article_02.htm2. Dress modestly. What you wear sends out a message to others. Back in Bible times, wearing certain styles of clothing branded a person as being immoral or promiscuous. (Proverbs 7:10) The same is often true today; tight, flashy, or revealing clothing can attract the wrong kind of attention. True, some may feel they have a right to wear whatever they desire. But as writer Elizabeth Powell puts it, "if you worked among people who believed stealing money was okay, I'd tell you not to wear your billfold on your hip. . . . You have to recognize the sickness of . . . society's attitudes and try to protect yourself from being victimized by them."
The Bible's advice is thus up-to-date. It admonishes women to "adorn themselves in well-arranged dress, with modesty and soundness of mind." (1 Timothy 2:9) Dress modestly, and you may be less likely to be a target of abusive speech or actions. -
