Why can't we give Jesus his due? -- 2 Cor 12:8, 9
by OHappyDay inwhile doing the watchtower study for this week, from the june 1, 2005 issue, i was literally floored by paragraph 2: "after [paul's] having prayed three times for relief from 'a thorn in the flesh,' he received jehovah's reply: 'my undeserved kindness is sufficient for you; for my power is being made perfect in weakness.
huh?
i thought paul said he "entreated the lord"???

"Jehovah in the New Testament"
by OHappyDay insincere pardons if this is posted here elsewhere and previously.. i received a copy of "jehovah in the new testament" from www.tetragrammaton.org.. the booklet's argument is that whereas "yahweh" or "jehovah" belongs in the old testament, because it is clearly there in the ancient texts, it does not belong in the new testament.. because there is not one ancient greek new testament manuscript that has "jehovah" in the text, only "lord.".
this is so obvious and irrefutable that it is silly for the new world translation to continue on with this theological mistake.
besides, in many passages where "jehovah" appears in the nwt new testament, it is simply jarring, out of place, and/or misleading.. actually, use of "jehovah" in the new testament distorts the meaning of the words of the apostles, and confuses the fact that "men ought to honor the son as they do the father.

More Ex-Witnesses than Witnesses?
by OHappyDay injehovah's witnesses use the number of the mighty 6 million (tm) to "prove" that god is blessing them over and above all other religions.
but with so many being disfellowshipped and leaving over the past decades, how many ex-witnesses are there?
with thousands growing wiser and more dissatisfied with wt doctrine, might the number of ex-witnesses over the years now equal the number of witnesses?

Bible Has No Room for "Observers"
by OHappyDay inas another memorial season approaches, our only and most valued holiday, the traditions of men will again invalidate the word of god.. ninety-nine percent of those who attend the memorial will ignore and transgress jesus' commandment: "as they continued eating, jesus took a loaf and, after saying a blessing, he broke it and, giving it to the disciples, he said, 'take, eat.
this means my body.
' also, he took a cup and, having given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, 'drink out of it, all of you; for this means my blood of the covenant, which is to be poured out in behalf of many for forgiveness of sins.

A real "Governing Body"?
by OHappyDay ini'm sure the question has been asked before, but i can't help but wonder to what extent the first "governing body" was any way like the governing body today?.
is it not ironic that the apostle paul, who was not a member of the "governing body" was used by god to write most of the new testament?.
of the "governing body," only james and peter wrote anything of instruction letters to christians, one book for james and two for peter.. why, in addressing christians on life and conduct, did god apparently bypass the "governing body"?

I Couldn't Take Heaven Away...
by OHappyDay ini have a real problem when i meet people who are sure they are going to heaven.
the problem being that i have no authority to talk them out of it.
according to the new testament, only "the spirit" can determine who goes to heaven, not me nor any organization of men.. we say that only 144,000 go to heaven, but the bible does not say that.

Were All Early Christians Preachers?
by OHappyDay inreading the book of acts and the letters of paul do not bear out the dogma that all the early christians preached.
there are no "service meetings" in the new testament that prepare the average christian for a public ministry.
reading accounts from contemporary first and second century christians indicates that it was the example of christians, not the preaching by all, that primarily drew nonbelievers to christianity.. it is significant that the instructions to preach that are in the new testament are addressed to "elders" and "overseers" like timothy.

New JW Trinity
by OHappyDay injehovah.
the organization.
but he mentioned the organization and the faithful slave scores of times.. more and more i get the feeling that jesus exists only as a footnote, an after-thought among jehovah's witnesses.
