Overheard this at last meeting...JW's: No idea!!!

overheard a small group (elders, ms, pioneers etc) complaining about the church in adelaide called the paradise community church (recently featured in the advertiser and has ads on tv).

they started discussing it and one asked "what have they got they we don't have????

"....which was followed with a lot of head-shaking and head-scratching.. ever heard of freedom guys???.

Overheard a small group (Elders, MS, Pioneers etc) complaining about the church in Adelaide called the Paradise Community Church (recently featured in the Advertiser and has ads on TV). They started discussing it and one asked "What have they got they we don't have????"....which was followed with a lot of head-shaking and head-scratching.

Ever heard of freedom guys???

PS There is only 2 events in Adelaide that needs Police road blocks....AFL matches at Football park and every Sunday at the Paradise Community Church (The churches average attendance is around 4000 on Sundays)

Jesus' Death-Stake or Cross?

ive always wondered about the controversy regarding whether jesus died on a cross or on a stake.

whats the difference anyway?

his execution was simply the way the romans put people to death.

The old Worldwide Church of God used to believe in the stake thing too (till they converted to full Orthodoxy).

The Greek word indicates just 'stake' (up and down pole (BUT could by EXTENTION mean cross as well)) but archaelogical evidence points to just 'cross'.

ps i think the reasoning of this is that its 70 years since the closing of the heavenly calling (1934/35).

1 question thats been bugging me lately...

should i write letters to a few brothers that i am friends with in my cong (i can't speak to now alot) and the other congs in adelaide (i only see some of them every 6 months in my old congs) that i've been in, that tells them the real reason why i da'd myself.

(to cut any rumours off).

i really don't want to leave it all hanging up in the air for them....... any thoughts??

When does the shunning start...I'm confused...

i don't know what the hell is going on over here but since i da'd myself only half the jw's shun me......i was told by a jw over the phone (a lot of jws still phone me) that the elders have gone up to everyone in the cong to personally to say i'm da'd (as opposed to an announcement from the platform), yet when i walk into the hall for meetings people still greet me.

i think they do it just to piss the elders off...... also, as some of you know my literature/magazine order was cancelled by the elders, i got in contact with an old friend in another congregation (a ex-pioneer who got df'd yet i still visited him when he was df'd...reinstated a while back) and he now gets me the magazines even though i told him i'm da'd.

he said he could care if i was a jw or not.

"the liberation of the worldwide church of god" by j. michael feazell.. this book documents the amazing story of how the wcg tranformed from a legalistic law based cult into full christian orthodoxy.. i find that pre-1986 wcg has a lot of parallels to jehovahs witnesses today.

this book shows what will happen to jehovahs witnesses if they try to reform (at all or too much).

i throughly recommend this book.. ps it was interesting to find out that jw's weren't the only ones to believe that jesus died on a stake as wcg did believe that before all the reformation.

well heres two comments made by speakers from the platform that i noticed that sorta stuck out.. firstly, about a month ago this ms was doing a talk on proverbs in the tms and during the talk we had to look up 4 scriptures in a row from the bible and the ms said (the way i heard it he said it sarcastically) "it's great to be finally using the bible!".

Yes, i've been going to the meeting lately (only) to hear my DA announcement (still hasn't been announced..been over a month) and pick up some mags (another story!)(See "Org crack down on..." post). Well heres two comments made by speakers from the platform that I noticed that sorta stuck out.

Firstly, about a month ago this MS was doing a talk on Proverbs in the TMS and during the talk we had to look up 4 scriptures in a row from the Bible and the MS said (the way I heard it he said it sarcastically) "It's great to be finally using the Bible!". (As a side point, at last Tuesdays meeting we only looked up 1 scripture (count is usually only about 3-6).

Secondly, this Elder was doing a service meeting talk on the "Reasoning" book and he said he "liked to really do a lot of research"......he then went on to praise the societies publications and that he uses just them in his research.
