the natural use of the reproductive organs is obviously to make children.
using these organs in a way that cannot produce children is unnatural and thus ethically wrong.. .

I enjoyed your post. Coming out of the mind control of the borg, accepting homosexuality as just another choice people have, was the last and hardest lesson for me to learn. I appreciate your using the examples you did, because I've seen those same arguments used before, by both sides. Of course, you presented it in a very logical, unemotional order.

Chris Vance...I'm with Flip, I almost felt a physical pain when I read about your daughter cancelling plans to see you. I have no idea if they are increasing the pressure on loyal dubs to enforce shunning, but my whole family of loyal dubs show no sign of weakening. But then again, neither do I, heh heh

so, i would like to take an informal poll: how has being disfellowshippid/ disassociated/ inactive/ just having doubts affected relations with your family?

All of my extended family, mother, brother,grandmother,aunts, uncles and cousins are Witnesses. Growing up, we were fairly close with the cousins. My mother was undoubtedly my best friend for my adult years from 21 to 35. She adored my children, watched them all the time, her house was their second home. My Dad has never been a witness, but has always been emotionally distant anyway.
Since my sister left the borg(she left first and that is a WHOLE other story) relationships began to unravel. When I sided with my sister...then was df'd 2 years ago, my mother has grown colder and colder...the phone conversations more stilted and less frequent. She has basically chosen this org. over her only two daughters, and 4 grandkids that she will never be close to again! My Dad just follows along with my Mom, since he never was one to initiate contact anyway. My Aunts, Uncles, cousins and only living grandmother? Haven't heard ONE word from them since I was df'd.
So yes, I can see where the society gets their info that their policy does NOT sever family ties![8>]

i never really had a clear understanding of how jw's labeled someone apostate.
some time this week the elders will receive my letter disasociating myself.
in the letter i accuse the organization as being a cult.

Welcome to the "free and clear apostate" class.
That took guts for you to write the letter AND tell everyone, but hey, I think that's a great idea. Now your kids can quickly go back to being "normal" kids.
I'm with TR about never having heard of an "apostate" wanting to go back, but I agree, if the right backsides are polished, it could be done. After all, their definition of what constitutes unforgivable sin is like everything else they teach. Subject to much personal interpretation!

its almost hard to remember, just a few months back, feeling like i was the only one to live through a jw experience and not be sorry that i am no longer a part of it.

Thank you so much for sharing some of your story with us. It makes us feel closer to you, and realize how much we all have in common. I was born into the "truth"(yuck, hate hearing that now)also, baptized at 15, because of family and cong. pressure. So no, I don't feel I had much choice either.

i asked this in one of the threads ( http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=5335) but i would like to explore it further.. am i the only one to think this or did it seem like the sisters with unbelieving mates and children seemed to be "tolerated" or marginalized?
they never seemed to be "full" witnesses to anybody in the congregation?.

I also regretted the way you had no social life, and tortured myself over my kids getting involved in school things. We had many tearful discussions on this, my kids and I. I am sooooooo thankful that I left when my boys were 12 and 13. While I feel badly about the years they did miss, I am thankful they didn't miss everything, like I did. So the next baseball or soccer ball or basketball that one of my sons scores with at some "worldly" function, that goal is going to be for you....and your kids, ok?
