greetings from the land of ice and snow,,,, last week i watched a tv show on the iceman found frozen in alps, about 10yrs ago.

it was an update on what scientists have found the last few years.

they say he is 5300 yrs old, which would put him at roughly 3300bc.

There was an Awake article on ice man which tried to hide the age of the body. Their quote was from a report early on, and from of all places, the magazine of the Audubon Society of the US. They did not report on the extensive dating procedures that were used and explained in the book by Konrad Spindler, even though they refrered to the German language version of "the Man in the Ice."

The findings of this bronze-age body cause several problems for Watchtower Chronology. When the man lived the Alps were pretty much the same as they are today. The climatic conditions caused the preservation of his body. He died at a high elevation, in a snow storm and was buried in snowpack for almost all of the 5000 years. He did not live in a tropical climate with few large hills at a time of no precipitation. He hunted, had sophisicated tools and ate a diet that included meat. His world was not at all like the creationist pre-deluvian world suggested by Watchtower writers.

I'll wait to see the all official published figures. Increases are based on peak values as are the totals. I'd like to see the average figures. There were spikes after 911 and the change in the 15 minute rule. Spikes can be used for spin but averages tell the truth.

MN Senator Paul Wellstone Just Died.....

omg.......i turned on the tv to watch my afternoon soap and it is reported that sen. paul wellstone, his wife and his daughter (plus 5 others) just died in a plane crash near eveleth!

i still can't believe it.

just a reminder how fragile life is.

It is very, very sad. I know my wife will be terribly upset, she was a big supporter of Paul Wellstone.

A conversation with my JW sister

before i tell you about the conversation, i need to give you some background.

i am 62 and my jw sister is 58. i left the religion when i was 22. that was 40 years ago.

in 1981, she read the hard stance article about those who have left and did not talk to me in more than a cursory way for 15 years.

If "preaching" is part of the sign then JWs are not fulfilling it as you pointed out. Even if communism collapsed in China there is no reason reason to believe JWs would make much of a difference there. They will simply be another "me too" Christian religion trolling for converts. Russia is/was a Christian country and JWs have done well in countries with a Christian history. However, in 50+ years in democratic India JWs have grown from a tiny religion to a very minor religion. So why would an ex-communist, non-Christian country embrace Watchtowerism?

If China changed dramatically where will JWs look to find a power to be the "king of the North." But then again, despite communism, China is the "King of South's" second biggest trading partner and partners don't go to war.

Oh well, there's always Iraq, but don't count on Iran which is likely to go through another revolution soon as it's young population begins to gain a voice.

Awake 8th Nov Picture

could someone please have a look and perhaps post a picture from the nov 8th awake.

i have been told that the picture was taken during a convention and a young person is giving the 'finger' at the time the photo was snapped.

i do not have access to the mag but it would be interesting to see if something like that was allowed to slip through.

The kid may be holding three pencils, two in the one hand forming the Vee. In that case it may have passed the inspection test prior to publication. The poorer quality of this printed version makes it apear he's doing the vees to the photographer. What ever the case it's pretty funny. (This English gesticular expression supposedly dates back to Agincourt and was used by English bowmen to flip off the French by showing they had their two fingers for drawing the string.)

As jj noted I noticed the bored expressions on everyone' s faces. Perhaps the speaker is droning on about the dangers of VCRs, DVDs and the Internet to an audience who barely understand the product references let alone own one.

BARCODE AND HIS EXPLANATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have seen many discussions in this forum, about the barcode, but want specify, that is only symbolically that i speak when i say that is the barcode the mark of the beast 666. .

Am I only slighly evil if I design logistic systems that utilize 3 of 9 and Code 128 bar codes?

Whats the difference between unqiuely identifying a supplier/product part code as an base 10 number (thank the Arabs) and writing this number in a form that can be interpreted by an LED or Laser scanner?

Where do 2 dimensional bar codes fit in to the axis of evil and is the UPS bullseye code a demonic symbol?

At Notre Dame, quarterbacking only the defense was one of his easier adjustments. The year before Hoyte came to America's foremost Catholic institution, where religion is often worn on the jersey sleeve, he was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness. He has been quoted as saying, "Religion is the No. 1 thing in my life, along with my family.''
He doesn't attend team Mass with the rest of the Irish, but worships with his teammates at a non-denominational fellowship period on Fridays.

I wonder how religion can be his number 1 thing or whether it has slipped. I find it hard to believe that a college athelete, who has to study and make the grades and has to attend football practice is still going to be able to attend meetings, let alone do all the other JW stuff. Not joining the team mass is one thing but any interfaith, non-denominational or not is still a no-no to JWs. Besides JWs don't believe in praying for guidance and strength in football games, unless this has changed.

About the two beheaded Witnesses

i got to thinking about this at work a couple of nights ago.. a news story said that the two jw's killed weren't (apparently) proselytizing in the phillipines, which is described as a heavily muslim nation.

though they were found with avon products, avon said the two were neither employees nor representatives.. now, why would two jw's be in a heavily muslim land, possibly pretending to be something they're not?

were they just lugging the stuff from place to place for someone as a favor?.

Could they not have been "preaching" under the guise of selling cosmetics? That way they could say that any discussion of relgion was started by the householder and they were simply expressing their personal beliefs not proselytizing.

The WTS will deny any responsibility or involvement in this undercover operation.
