my name is jesika and i was raised one of jehovah's witnesses.
i was what they call disfellowshipped or shunned by the tender age of 15. i haven't spoken to anyone on my dad's side of the family other than my dad for over 11yrs.
they refuse to have anything to do with me because of their religion.
I'm so sorry that you've had to go through what so many of us has had to go through. My mother didn't have anything to do with me for 13 years! I was completely cut off from my family also. It really took it's tow on me too. I suffer from bi-polar and the *low* times make it almost unbearable, but I'm still hanging in there........I hope you do the same darlin.

i am really down on the dumps regarding being shunned and torn apart about da (i haven't yet).
a week ago i wrote to dr. phil on oprah and wrote briefly about jw practices on shunning.

my subject is how we deal with getting older - realizing that we are headed in just one direction, aging and eventually dying.
for most of us born after wwii, raised as jw's, we did not give a thought to getting older.

well my friends....my real friends...the funeral is over.
i can count 5 witnesses...only 5, that offered any sort of comfort to me.
those are the ones that i know really love(d) me.
Fire Dragon, bless your heart. I know the heart renching pain that you endured. I've been there myself. When my j.w. mother died, I had D.A. myself from the cult months earlier. The j.w.s avoided me. People that I had grown up with and known all my life! Their unloving conduct on comfirmed my reasons for leaving. I could never be so cold to someone, and never would be. The whole shunning thing never sat well with me, I never could find reasoning in that and never when by that rule as a hovah!
I know that had to be sooooo difficult for you to endure and I'm so sorry. I'm so glad that we have this site here! Isn't it a soft place to fall! I'm trying to focus on the people that DO love me and not the ones that are still brainwashed in that cold hearted cult. *and I'm putting it nicely*

it has been many years since i was dsfsd, i have written this to my sister in hopes that she could understand some of the reasons that the relationship between my daughter and myself have been strained for so many years.
i thought that by posting this it might help someone else that might be going through some of the same things.. here is my story.hello, as i stated in my other e-mail i will dedicate this entirely to trying to explain my situation with my daughter.

Thank you for sharing your story with us. It hit home in so many way! I haven't posted my story, but after reading yours, I hope to be able to in hopes of helping someone else too.
I think there are so many stories out there like ours that are never told and that has never been heard!
I'm so happy that you have worked through alot of your issues and have finally started to find some sence of peace. I know how hard that can be, especially when you have family members still in the cult.

first, you need to identify some outward signs of mental illness and then find ways to encourage their manifestation.

do you think that, if say you fell over and and seriously injured yourself in the street, would a jw you knew passing by help you knowing that you were disfellowshipped or so called apostate.
maybe even come to see you at home if you were unwell or depressed,i mean how many witnesses have assisted or helped you when you needed it mostly,you see i thought they were supposed to encourage you to become so called spiritually stronger.but saying that when you were active as a jw do you think you were helped in times of distress or illness by your fellow jw,for instance i know a woman who's still a witness but hasnt been to meetings for say a year and thats because she has severe athritis and guess what only 1 j-dub has wrote to her so to her it seems like if your not a regular at meeting you may as well be classed as disfellowshipped.
Oh yeah right, I don't know what I'd do without the support of the hovah's!

i was just sitting here at work fantasizing what i would do if i won the lottery.

once again a hard line is being taken on shunning disfellowshipped and disassociated ones.
perhaps this is some sort of backlash against the recent adverse dateline publicity in the us, the forthcoming pananorama programme in the uk and problems with a number of influential ones leaving the organization.
