To sum things up...
A. Watchtower summary
B. Dedication of a gazillion buildings with "inspiring" stories (gag me)
C. There will be 3 Watchtowers per year and 3 Awakes per year. Very pointed remarks about "wasting" literature on people who've been accepting literature for years but don't do anything beyond that. Reading difficulty in the articles will be lowered, combining the simplified and normal editions. The layout will also change. This all starts on January 2018. Likely plan is to produce two years of the new Awakes/Watchtowers and then reprint them again. Basically - no new articles after the next two years.

Just curious - is apostasy grounds for divorce?
by LifesNotOver ini know only adultery is supposed to be grounds for "scriptural" divorce.
i'm a wicked apostate in their eyes, but my believing husband and i still can't get a divorce that would allow him to remarry.
we currently are separated - i have left him.
-

I'm not sure I really understand why folks feel the need to make sure their ex can remarry. Can anybody explain this to me?
Some divorces are fairly amicable. It's a nicety to make sure your previous partner can move onto another relationship without unfair punishments being levied by the cult. I don't believe it's very common, but it's a possibility.

BIG news Trump...His lewd conversation leaks.
by James Mixon inif he get pass this, america deserve him...... conversation 10 years ago..

I doubt the people claiming Trump's comments are no big deal would be okay with Hilary saying she can grab a guy's penis and do what she wants... because she's a celebrity. Are they just too invested in Trump at this point to say "oops, we made a mistake"? All other politics aside, do we want a leader who thinks they're entitled to sexually assaulting people? This is in a whole different league than an affair between consenting adults. -

Elders harassing me
by raven inhi everyone, it has been a while since i've last updated!
(refer to my previous posts for the full story) here is a quick re-cap: 2 months ago my mother found out that i am living with my boyfriend, she told me i was discovered by an "anonymous" tipper who turned me in for "living in sin".. first of all, that is nearly impossible, the congregation i was in is 100's of miles away from where i currently live.. no one would have ever known i was living with my boyfriend unless i told them, which i never did, i cut off all communication with that congregation in part of my attempted fade which was blown into pieces and discovered.. anyways, my mom tells me if i don't go to the elders and confess like a good little sheep, then she is obligated to tell them.. ( don't see why, i don't even live under her roof ) well i never went to them because why should i?
so they met with my mother and she told them i live with my boyfriend... let me remind you, this was two months ago.. i was told i was going to be df'd and that was that.

Yep, you're being emotionally blackmailed. However, it sounds like the only connection that you care about it affecting is your Mom. Please remember that shunning is the choice of the person doing the shunning and they can stop doing so whenever they'd like (doesn't hurt to remind the person of this frequently). My personal opinion would be to keep ignoring the elders. Engaging with them won't improve the situation in any way. You'll be expected to throw yourself at their feet and be the perfect JW for years to maybe get back in their good graces. It sounds like you're happy with your life and have no reason to let the JWs bully their way into it. Enjoy your happy non-JW life. You deserve it.

But where else should we go? Can you answer this question?
by purrpurr inhaving watched many jc youtube videos one question that gets asked is "where else would you go?".
in other words if not jehovah's witnesses then what other religion or organisation would you go to?.
it's one that i have trouble answering, what would you say?.

But where else should we go?
... out for pizza in a purple Mohawk and yoga pants
... exploring the safest existence that humans have ever known (really - check the stats)
... meeting non-cult people that we like
... stay home to watch a sappy movie or read a good book
I can think of many snarky/flippant answers to this question. If they pressed for the existential answer, I'd have to go with "not sure yet, but I'll enjoy the trip".

Kids continue to leave in droves - so what is the organization's grand plan? This
by sir82 injws have one of the worst, if not the worst, retention rates among their kids.
i've seen numbers from 65% to 88% who leave, never to return.. you'd think this would be a priority amongst the leadership, right?
where do tomorrow's leaders come from, if the vast majority of kids leave the organization?

Within the last month, the oldest two under-18s in the local KH are basically out. One was disfellowshipped and the other is "no longer an unbaptized publisher". I hope the dominoes continue to fall to the next oldest, then the next oldest, and so on. Our KH has always seemed to breed like rabbits - way more kids than adults, but most leave as teens or early adults. It's always a wave of little kids and then a wave of "bye-bye JWs" as teens. The few left over continue to crank our kids for another cycle. -

Are the witnesses working the homeless territory in down town L.A.Calif
by James Mixon intoday after leaving the va center in l.a. i drove around to see the homeless and.
blocks and blocks of tents, card board boxes, hundreds of homeless people with.
a look of desperation on their faces.
-
StarryNight9
It's cheaper in the long run to give homeless people free housing. I think we as a society are too stuck on "no freebies" and "deserving/earning help" to see the forest through the trees. A lot of these things aren't actual "freebies" - it's an investment that pays out big down the road.

"how awful it must be to be dying as an apostate!"
by purrpurr ini heard today about a former jw/now apostate who is dying in hospital.
this information was accompanied by the comment of "wouldn't be awful to be lying there in hospital, dying as an apostate!
knowing that you have no hope!?
-
StarryNight9
If I knew that I'm dying - I'd take comfort in the fact that I definitely wouldn't be going to some crappy version of paradise. JWs forget that there's no internet, labor-saving machines, or electricity in their all-rural farming "paradise". Even solar panels would need an advanced manufacturing facility. You need a lot of specialized workers to keep our level of technical sophistication/comfort afloat. I also HATE gardening - totally happy with someone else growing my food. Count me out!
