Thanks but no thanks. I prefer not to do any actual research on my own. All I need to know is given to me by my failful and discrete slave at the appropriate time. If I need to know about language, I'm sure a nice Awake! article will be published in the magazine.

not sure which thread to put this under so i will ask here.if a person stopped attending their kh meetings, but always made sure they made a donation each month to their kh,would the elders still come knocking on their door?is it recruitment or money they want more?

Recruitment by far. Their main point is for recruitment. With it comes money, but their emphasis is for recruitment. If you don't donate ( I know this because I didn't donate Dic|< for 3 years and didn't hear anything. But when I stopped going out in service, thats when i got the "help".
i have only just left the jw religion.
i am pursuing my studies and career now and i know i could never go back.
but..... the prophesies etc still haunt me daily.

Most ex-JWs have these thoughts when they first leave, and many for years to come. It just part of the conditioning we get while in the borg. Its always in the back of our mind because it was in the front of our minds for so long. It doesn't mean you still believe it. Its like phobia. Over time, some people conquer their phobias and some just live with it.
As with your relationship with God, I can't give much advice about that because of my beliefs, but DON'T let someone else tell you what your relationship can and can't be.
i just talked to my ex about her weekend and she said something that really disturbed me.
she spent the weekend up in the bay area (sf area of ca) with a bunch of dubs.
she was telling me about them and made the comment of them being different from the stuffy here in fresno.

She was telling me about them and made the comment of them being different from the stuffy here in Fresno. She said they were all laid back, and looked and dressed and acted like regular people. She said for field service meeting they just kicked it for about an hour talking and joking. Many are in rock bands, ay role playing games and are educated. She said it was totally different than the dubs here in town.
A couple things come to mind...
A) These dubs are on their way out. It sounds like to me that they wouldn't act like this if the CO is there. I doubt these people are looked highly upon by the elders in the cong.
B) She is totally exagerating their attitude to make me feel like i have no valid reasons to leave. A message like "See, not all people are like the people here" Which make me laugh because the people here in fresno are just doing what the borg tells them to do. According to the dubs, all of them should behave like this.
So, is anyone here familiar with the dubs up in the bay area (Monteray, San Jose, San Fransisco, etc?) and if this is true or just a little propaganda to make me feel bad or something...

i was just recalling the first few years when i was a well known apostate dub, a man of the world, an outcast to be shunned!.
back then, when i was still a familiar sight, before new dubs who did not recognise me came on the scene, i would often be ignored whilst in town shopping or even whilst imbibing a quick half in the pub.. i quickly realised that there wasn't much satisfaction in being on the receiving end of a snub, or, as h.g.
wells so splendidly described it in "kipps": "cut!
I said this a couple of times: "I know you are told that you can't talk to me. I know you can get into trouble just by being seen having a brief conversation with me. I don't want all that trouble brought down on you, so I won't initiate any conversations with you."
Makes them feel stupid that an adult can get into trouble for just talking to someone and that they believe that crap.

i think that this is becoming a more common scenario in american society.
When I was married I made more than my spouse Most of the time. I was going through school too. Once she got a full time job and was making decent money, She surpassed me until I finished school and was able to enter the fulltime job market. With a degree, I got hired on at a company and surpassed her earning income. Did it effect us? Yes. When she made more money than me, she got on a power trip and always brought it up. Always said that because she made more money, she can decide how to spend the money. (not that we didn't share decisions, but now she took control) But once I started to make more than her, she acted different. Maybe she felt that she was supporting me or something and lost some respect. She didn't support me in fact, just supported her spending habits...LOL

i never dressed like one of them unless i was at the hall.
i think that people looking at me would never have guessed that i was a witness.

Its funny. I never thought twice about those stupid KMs. I hardly had them at meeting and never read them ahead of time. I never knew they were in such great demand. I guess its because they have special instruction to the dubs that they don't want others to see. Ammo against the WT.

with all these 'apostates' receiving visits from the jws out in their field ministry, did you, or do you remember anything vaguely reminiscent of this statement i am going to post.
more or less, that because said-jehovah's witnesses are inspired or have jehovah's blessing, that they can avoid harmful situations, or have some sort of divine guidance, thus they should be able to know or sense we are: a p o s t a t e s ?

Let me explain...When I wasn't a dub, I was visited maybe 3 times in 20 years. I didn't live in some rural, hard to reach area. I have always lived in suburbs of some pretty well populated cities. Dubs work the same areas over and over and over again. Now, if I only had 3 visits in 20 years, thats not a very effective way to talk to everyone. What percentage of the population are Apostates? Well, 6 million out of 6 billion (roughly) is .1 percent (well in the US its 1 million out of 250 million which is .4 percent) Lets say there are 2 times as many ex-dubs than there are dubs (don't think that can be calculated, but what the heck, its a guess). How often are dubs going to run into exdubs who are apostates who have the energy to argue with them?
I think is more a numbers game then a supernatural entity protecting them from words of ridicule. If I was a god protecting my people doing my work, I'd give them energy to walk all day, or supply them with the will to do it w/out stopping for McDonnalds every hour. I'd even guide their step as to not walk into potholes and twist their ankel.
Ok, enought talking from me now...
well like i say, just got back from the memorial, have been going most years, but this year i went by chance (knew it was roughly at 7pm at the nearest kh) to my old congregation that i grew up in.
i didn't find the "evil" people spoke of here on this forum, or those too stupid to see.
all i did see was people i hadn't seen in years, and let me tell you, what lovely people they were.
I'm sure if I go back to the hall, (if I wasn't DA'd) they would all be nice to me and I'd feel loved. But the moment I express my own opinions about what I believe, I will be pulled into the room. The main problem isn't with the people, its with the fact that you can't have your own opinion! Imagine that, They have talks discouraging independant thought. You know that not all the teachings of the JWs are right, but if you express your disagreement, you get in to trouble...Is that something you want? If so, by all means go back.
