You always hear the managers comments, cuz there the ones who make a bonus on how profitable it is. How come they never quote the staff members who have to deal with the thousands of dubs staying in the hotel, all in a mad rush to get to the convention center at 7:00 to get their "good seat".

Come on, who really TALKS like this? "Your people are so joyful!" etc...
by somebodylovesme ini recently snuck a read of the km newsletter, which talked about assembly preparation.
aside from how ridiculous it is that they have to tell people not to push and shove (duhhh), i thought the quotes seemed a little, well, hokey.
i don't have it with me, so i can't quote it, but it was what i can guess is a commonly cited compliment: that the hotel manager/police/venue host said they are "thrilled to have jehovah's people" with them because "your people are so joyful" and so on.

Reading WT Publications
by Nosferatu inokay, i don't know about the rest of you, but when i read any wt publications (even on here), i fall into a state where i'm reading, but not paying attention to what i'm reading.
i used to do it during watchtower studies, and when i was studying, i fought to pay attention to the material being discussed.
it just seems automatic, that i completely shut my mind off when reading wt publications.. what about you?

Sounds like a healthy reaction to me!
Probably because its the same thing over and over again. Like a mother to her child who says "mom, mom, mom, mom, mom.." and she ignores the first 30 because she is so used to hearing it. That, and its written at a child's level. I'm sure "Hop on Pop" won't keep your attention as much as it used to.
I remember doing the Creation book and everyone complained because it was too confusing. Hmm, watered down "science" confusing? Lets see them take a college level science course...

Interesting read, very controversial
by New Castles inread something today, that i thought was very interesting.
it screams in the face of thousands of years of christian belief.
it expresses the authors belief that jesus's sacrifice was in vain.. "if i owe a person money, and cannot pay him, and he threatens to put me in prison, another person can take the debt upon himself, and pay it for me.

This kind of self sacrifice is often protrayed against terrorists who take hostages. Like "Let everyone go, and take me instead". So is god a terrorist?

Well, I'm an Athiest and find nothing wrong with it either. Its just a card game. But I do have a couple funny instances about it regarding JWs.
I used to play Magic when shortly after it first came out, and quit around Ice Age (before I got into the borg). I still have a bunch of cards but haven't touched them in years.
About 5 years ago at a double KH quick build, me and another brother were assigned "Guard Duty" overnight to make sure nobody stole the equipment left there. The brother was known to play games all the time, and as the evening went on, he whipped out a couple decks of Magic that he and his wife played with. I suppose he realized there was nothing wrong with a card game. I though "we shouldn't be playing this, especially at a KH". Not because I thought it was bad, but just didn't want to deal with the people saying I caused the KH to be demonized. LOL. Well, we played a few games and nothing bad happend. Later, he tried to play with some zealots and they turned on him and told the elders. He got in some trouble, but didn't really know the extent of it. They asked me if I was ok, or if I needed some counseling.
The second time was a couple years ago. My brother (never a dub) came over to my house (when I was married and a dub still) with his magic cards. My wife at the time saw them and said he better not take them out in her house. Well, we were watching TV and he took the cards out to test his new deck and she flipped. She stormed off into the bedroom and then yelled for me to follow. She said "how dare you let him practice magic in our household. We'll have demon problems for sure!" I politely asked my brother to put away the cards cuz it made her feel uncomfortable. I felt stupid, but I'd rather feel stupid than have to deal with her. But now she is gone and I'm out. If you have fun playing a game, do it!

Hello fellow ex-JW's
by 2good2bad ini'm new (duh) to this message board.
i usually frequent message boards of a more sinful type...lol...but i have been on a search for quite sometime to talk with people who understand where i'm coming from when i talk about the religion i grew up in.
i get tired of getting that deer in the headlight look or the infamous "for real you sold bibles door to door and woke people up in the morning?
