He sounds like a contractor a friend I had knew from the midwest. He screwed over every last mother's son that ever worked for him. He embezzeled, he tried to evade taxes, he would take big cash payments up fron and then left the suppliers holding the unpaid bills while he used the money to build his own home. He was a big fish in a small pond. But it was okay, he made big contributions to the KH. I hear he is appointed now!

Once Again: It's Okay for JWs to Rip-Off Non-JWs
by Iown Mylife intoday i heard from the owner of a small restaurant, the story of how a brother in a local congregation ripped him off for thousands.
the restaurant owner is not a jw but totally familiar with the cult, as his mother is a long-time baptized sister.
she asked him to hire this wonderful brother from her congregation to do construction work he needed at his house.

Will the ones 'laid off' get any financial help from the Watchtower once they are assigned to local congregations??
They surely will...uh huh, yep. Seriously though...NO.

Pondering The Increase in Memorial Partakers
by piztjw init has been discussed in other threads, but in pondering what the real reason for the increase in partakers is i have a personal theory.. this theory would naturally have to be based on ones actually believing the bible, and not just simply what the wt&t$ dictates that one must believe.. when jesus made a covenent with the apostles at the last supper to rule with him in heaven, is it possible that that covenent was with them only?
jw's will say that it also extended to all the rest of the 144,000. but nowhere is there a lliteral claim of only 144,000 in the bible.
in revelation, a book that jw's claim is filled with symbolism, that number is suddenly claimed by them to be literal.

It has been discussed in other threads, but in pondering what the real reason for the increase in partakers is I have a personal theory.
This theory would naturally have to be based on ones actually believing the Bible, and not just simply what the WT&T$ dictates that one must believe.
Going back to Jesus words, in John 10: 16 he said "...I have OTHER SHEEP which are not of this fold (his apostles whom he was speaking to), those also I must bring, and they will listen to my voice, and they will become ONE FLOCK, one shepherd."
In Haggai 2: 7 it says, "And I will rock all the nations, and the DESIRABLE THINGS of all the nations must come in...". The WT&T$ claims that "other sheep" and "great crowd" are just different groups of the same class of people, at different points in time. Kind of like their past claims about the meaning of generations. They claim that those desirable things are the ones who won't be going to heaven. But, could it be, is it possible, that the desirable things of the nations are the "other sheep", and are in reality ones who Jesus has chosen to be in heaven? Is it possible that the "other sheep" and the "great crowd" are in reality two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT groups?
If that were to be the case it would explain why the numbers are steadily increasing over the past few years. More are being chosen to be in heaven as part of those "other sheep" who will be part of Jesus' one flock. They are not "mentally unstable" or any of the other accusations made by the WT&T$ to try to keep the door closed to any except themselves. The "great crowd" could still be those who have no desire to fly around heaven, but rather believe that there really might be some sort of "paradise" where people will live in harmony with each other.
Maybe that will be future NU-LITE?
Any comments?

Gotta love the way the eldurrs chastise any who are not planning on attending their assigned orderd location. Like a family I know who is now being semi-shunned as stiff-necked rebels for attending a location closer to where they live and staying with family for free, instead of travelling twice as far, and staying at a recommended ordered motel an hour from the site for $100.00 per night.

Donations - how much is normal?
by Frazzled UBM inhow much would a well-off witness be expected to donate?
my wife has just withdrawn a few hundred pounds from her account and refuses to tell me why so i suspect she plans to donate it as she hasn't donated for a while because she knows i don't want our money going to the organisation.
is it likely that she is feeling under pressure to make a large donation?.

So here are some interesting quotes from the WT in yesterday's WT "study". I have printed some words in bold type to make my point.
Par. 12 "As part of that annual observance, children would ask their parents questions...."
Par. 13 "As new generations grew up, important lessons would be emphasized, passed on by father to son."
So obviously children were a NEW generation. The picture at the top of the page portrays a father, mother, son, and daughter. Evidently according to the new definition of generation from the WT&T$ the picture has only ONE over-lapping generation. But at the same time they printed in the paragrph that this would be TWO generations. I wonder WTF they are smoking in the Ivory Tower? Doesn't anyone see the total inconsistency?
Then in par.14 they start off with this bit of "wisdom", "Christian parents do not each year recount to their sons and daughters the meaning of that Passover. The same picture of the phony family has the heading that asks, "In discussing the Passover, what lessons will you help your children learn?"
Par. 16 gives the suggestion order to include a discussion of the Passover account in Family Worship Indoctrination.
The forgetfullness of the sheeple is mind-boggling when they cannot, even from one paragraph to the next on the same page, spot total double-speak.

Future for conventions
by joe134cd inevidently with the new light on the reduced time spent at circut assemblies.
i put forward 3 theories for the future of assemblies.. (1) there will be a world wide fire sale of assembly halls, due to the 50% reduction of use.
if this is the plan i reckon they will carry this out with in the next 5 years.

In my locality the BOE just coerced the congregation into approving the expenditure of $1,000.00 for a computer with all the fancy bells and whistles.
The reason one of them gave for buying that, instead of accepting the gifts of no less than three FREE computers was that the new one could be used to project talks by [the] GOverning Directors. (See what I did there?)
This is a small congregation made up of mostly elderly and disabled members on retirement income. The BOE is always yapping about how more money is being spent than what is taken in, and, "We are sure you brothers will prayerfully make sacrifices so you can better provide materially for the needs of the congregation elders ego's."
The regional conventions will be handled the same way. Just an excuse to shear the sheep a little closer to the skin!

Jehovah's Witnesses Say They Are The Most Educated In The World. How Would You Prove Otherwise?
by minimus inthey claim their schools, literature and teaching are far more superior than any "worldly" education.
how would you counter that belief?.
-
piztjw
I would show them a photo of my grandfather, my mother, me, and my daughter together and ask them how many generations they see?
They can't count, and that is pretty basic education.

And, what the hell does "integrity" have to with severe clinical depression?
Everything? Evidently (see what I did there?) if a person is clinically depressed that would quite likely (I did it again) be a sure sign that they were not "integrity" keepers and more likely than not had committed some secret sin. In all probability (I just can't help myself) the sin is even a secret from the depressed person, and can only be discerned with the loving aid and interrogation provided by the eldurrs.
