Finkelstein: "But the bible says that his return to earth will be a physical and viewable presence"
"The Bible says..."
The Bible says whatever people want it to say. Especially if it is from Revelation.
what is the wackiest...strangest....most unusual jw teaching or practice?

i honestly have never heard such claptrap being delivered in a memorial talk.. the speaker repeatedly put down the way other religions administered the bread & wine, and claimed that witnesses do it exactly as the bible describes.
oh yeah????.
he forgot to mention - when reading aloud 1 corinthians 11:25 - that after passing the bread, a full meal was to be shared, before the wine was passed around!
It was awful. He said nothing of Jesus until the passing of the bread. It was all about who partake.
The only reason I went was because I have a job interview in another city. I went to that city to check things out. I went to the memorial to see if people knew of others who worked at that company, but no one did.

I think that you all need to learn what JWs believe before you criticize.
One said: "They believe people like Pol Pot, Jack the Ripper, Ghenghis Kahn, and other monsters from history will be resurrected"
Not true. Jws don't believe that. Some may take 'resurrection of the unrighteous' to that extreme but it does not mean that it will happen.
Finkelstein said 'Answer = That Jesus Christ returned to earth invisibly, first in 1874 then in 1914.'
JWs don't believe that. They don't believe that he returned to the earth. They believe he became king then and that he will always be invisible as he is spirit.
1sa 28:3-25 (nwt - not revised version).
7 finally saul said to his servants: seek for me a woman who is a mistress of spirit mediumship, and i will go to her and consult her.
then his servants said to him: look!
"Magnum 1Sa 28:7 Finally Saul said to his servants: “Seek for me a woman who is a mistress of spirit mediumship,"
How did Saul know that such a thing existed?
after almost 24 years in the school and doing it since i was nine years old, i officially resigned.
it has become increasingly difficult to prepare talks, especially with the new format for brothers.
i did not mind doing them; i actually put the time and effort into getting them out.
I remember one time, I said "Genesis Chapter 2, verses 1 through 15 reads..." and then started into the reading. Guess what? I was counseled to just go into the reading without saying what I was about to read.
I always did that. And I hated it and complained with brothers did not tell the scripture they were reading. They said that the School Overseer stated what was to be read. But I never paid attention to the school overseer.
film: a young man is given a powerful sword by a wise old man so that he can save the princess and defeat an evil sorcerer.
at the end of the film he saves all his friends but isn't able to defeat the sorcerer.
which film is it?.
so im here fine tooth combing the latest [mar 15th] watchtower propaganda leaflet the last study article, finding not a scripture in its correct context, [thats for another post, lol] when i thought, hmm, how many times does it say to preach in the bible.. so i go to bible gateway, and type in 'preach'.
[ not preached] .
i got 2nd timothy.. i read the whole 2 books of timothy.. an it appears to me, that paul, wh has his own agenda, wrote those words to timothy, after all it says a letter to tim, .
our family just lost someone dear and very close, a faithful jw.
as we went through the entire funeral services and meeting long time brothers and sisters, who in general have been very kind and warm towards us, we realize that the hope of resurrection is a meaningless utopia for us, like a fairytale for little children.
we don't have faith in it anymore, and serves us of no comfort.
Was the resurrection ever comforting?
When we were born it was a natural process. We control our lives. But with a resurrection, it is a case of a superior spirit now controls us to where he brought us back o life. That brings the question of why we needed to die.
i have been observing a pattern in recent wtbs publications and events.
is the importance of the preaching activity no longer the number 1 priority?
are not billions of lives still at stake?.
There is a saying in the business world that you can't manage what you don't measure.
That would be a logical reason for the counting and reporting of field service time and placements. That way they can better manage the territory, the placements, the literature, the publishers. But it is never done like that. They don't care about efficiency and getting more for less, but the controlling of the people and pushing them.
one time, i heard a father in a meeting with married couples say `i sometimes have to smack my children a bit, but never in the face so as to not humiliate them.how beautiful!
he knows the sense of dignity!
he has to punish them but does it justly and moves on.
"There is NEVER an excuse for hitting children. One day our descendants will look back and wonder why anybody ever thought it was acceptable."
It is acceptable because the alternative is not acceptable, i.e. their being brats.
There are always acceptable reasons for hitting another person or animal. It reinforces the message and gets the person to listen and respect. I spank my dogs when they are bad. It is like using an electric fence to teach boundaries. And if someone does not like being hit, the don't allow it, use defense measures. Use offense measures to return the fire. Don't act like the hitter is always bad and the hitted is always a victim. The person is only a victim if they allow it. If it is bad then it should be stopped at that moment by the person declaring it bad. it is like saying that JWs were victims of Nazi persecution. No. The JWs allowed it. They could have fought back.
