Trinitarians! Who is Jesus Christ's father the Holy Spirit or the Father?

this is one question that trinitarians try to avoid because they have created a very embarrassing problem.

the bible is very clear when the angel tells mary that holy spirit will overshadow her and she will become pregnant.

the angel does not say the father will overshadow her but the holy spirit will and if the holy spirit is a person that would make him the father of jesus.

I realize that commenting here in favor of the Trinity is like stepping up voluntarily in front of a firing squad, but I will anyway. I struggled for about two years to understand the Trinity as the bible presents it. It didn't take long for me to realize that the concept I had growing up in church was not biblical. Hence the struggle. I have now come to an understanding that I am very comfortable with that fits very well scripturally. I put all of my notes into a six-session study and am happy to share it privately. Please PM me if interested.

The Trinity is a biblical concept, although it is very misunderstood by most proclaimed Trinitarians. It is even more misunderstood by JW's as they teach that the Trinity is the same as modalism. Let's face it, it is a difficult topic, and few churches spend any time at all delving into it. I personally believe that a person does not need to believe the Trinity in order to have salvation. I do believe that better understanding the concept of the Trinity helps with better understanding many other Christian concepts.

how important is the phrase, "i am" to jw's, when it is spoken by jesus about himself?

I would suspect an answer that the verse was written for the 144,000. I would respond with a question about who the mediator is for the great crowd, followed by asking whether 1 Timothy 2:5 agrees with that comment.

maybe a silly question, but i'm curious about this part of the story of christ's crucifixion, when the 1 thief challenges jesus to save himself and "us too" from their deaths, but the 2nd thief rebukes him and pleads with jesus... .

luke 23:42-43: and he said unto jesus, lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.

and jesus said unto him, verily i say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise.. .

One explanation that I have heard is that during Jesus's death, he was in Sheol (as literally described in Luke 16). The thief would be there as would all who have previously died. This goes along with with the thought of Jesus "preaching" to the spirits of the unrighteous, rising on the third day, ascending to heaven and taking the righteous to heaven with him. ("Taking captive those who were captive" in Ephesians). Following that point, all righteous who died went to the third heaven as Paul described. Just one idea amidst many others.

if you're having to go to this thing tonight, pay attention to how the speaker explains the timing of events at the passover meal, and then compare that to what the bible actually says.... an oldie, but one of my better goodies, i think.... .

yes, it's time for that annual ritual...no, no...not the ritual of nibbling on crackers and sipping cheap wine, but the ritual of comparing wt teachings of how jesus instituted the memorial versus what the bible actually says.. current wt theology.... as cut and pasted from their own website:.

1914 C.E. ....the false positive of "1914"

in math, a false postive is a number that looks like the correct answer but is not.. .

i have written an article that discusses jehovah's witnesses interpretation of daniels prophecy of the "appointed times of the nations".

the article demonstrates mathematically that, if a person excepts that interpretation, the number "1914" could not possible equal the date 1914 c.e.

While I do not subscribe to the nonsense of 1914, I do acknowledge a rational way out of the 360/365 day per year dilemma. The expectation is 2520 years. That is 2520 "Nisan 14's" (or any other specific day). The Jewish calendar adjusts the number of days in a year every few years to keep it in line, the same way we add a day for a leap year. We don't have any issue saying March 1, 2007 is exactly 7 years before March 1, 2014 even though two extra days were added between them. So, in my opinion, we use a similar false argument by taking 2520 years a step further and making it 2520 x 360, when that isn't really the case.

hello everybody, before i begin i just wanna say that i have really found alot of great posts on here that have been helpful forme , theres definitely alot of brilliant people here!.

i am a born in jw(24 years old) ive been baptized for 7 years and was a ministerial servant for 4 years(i am no longer one).

recently me and my parents have have woken up to ttatt(about 2 months ago).

Before committing to anything that is "forever" try to grasp what "forever" really means. Then imagine going through "forever" disagreeing about a major part of the other's lifestyle. Of course that is advice I would give to anyone considering marriage. It just has a very discernible application in your situation.

Why don't Born Again Christians include themselves as "Cults"?

when i see or hear born again christians calling mormons, jws, 7th day adventists, jews etc; cults i always have wondered is that not the pot calling the kettle black?

i just amazes me how so much in denial bacs(born again christians) are.

they love to condemn and throw stones at others but they will never, never, and i mean never label themselves as cults even though they have some of the weirdest beliefs.

Real born agains do not judge others because they know that they are no better. They don't control others because they know they are ultimately not in control of anything. They follow Christ's commands not out of fear, but out of gratitude. They understand the impact of grace, not only toward others but also to themselves. There is a marked difference between a real born again and a member of a cult.

Booker, I am saddened that you feel the way you do, but I do understand why you feel that way. The people you described in your initial post are not born again. They may think they are, but without the experience that Perry said above, they are no different. There is a real and distinct change with those who are truly born again. The reason that born agains believe "once saved always saved" is because this change is permanent. The ones you described will likely hear, "I never knew you" from Christ.
