Sam, it was several months for me before Saturday, Sunday, and midweek stopped feeling wrong. I had guilt on Saturdays even, odd because I didn't enjoy service. After a few months you stop noticing. Now I dont even think about it. It's great too! :)

In effect the GB says the new testament was only written for the 144k - right?
by Comatose inbecause if you just read it then its plain that all should partake of the emblems and go to heaven etc.
they get around that by saying it only applied to those when written who all anointed and then a small group today.
so they take away the bible for the average witness.

Yeah SSPO you and I are in the same boat. I don't believe in it anymore, but it still fascinates me how they have taken a simple message and complicated it so much. And the nerve to pretty much indicate that the bible promises only apply to a handful, but if you be good little tag alongs you may get a benefit too. Sheesh.

Nothing earth shattering here, just a thought I had today.

Is asking questions of logic about a Global Flood effective in waking loved ones?
by BU2B ini was thinking about using a tactic of asking questions revolving around "noahs flood" to try to start my wife doing some serious thinking.
unlike doctrine that cannot often be proven one way or another, this issue can be proven beyond the slightest doubt that it is impossible.. i was thinking about asking a question something like this "i was reading about coral reefs today, and they sure are amazing!
what amazed me the most is how long it takes for them to build the reef, and how long they live!

Also, toss in the fact that Noah and sons heard gods voice. Saw his miracle, spoke with him, and lived for most of the 99 years following the flood. But, somehow did such a POOR job with their kids their were enough people to make the tower of babel? How can that be?

Fallacies about Faith
by tec inpeace to you!.
this thread is about false things (some) atheists think theists believe.
this is not a thread about false things that atheists think about theists.

My parents believe faith is what lets you ignore science, history, logic, and news articles. I was taught when I was growing up that it's nice when science agrees with the bible, and it's great if historians find evidence to back up the bible, but we believe the bible with all finality. If ever science or history disagree with the bible we will believe the bible only. Faith is what will enable us to do what seems to be stupid or what seems to be suicide. Faith is everything. I was taught that from a very young age over thirty years ago. I was taught that people would probably take me from my parents but angels would be with me even though I couldn't see them. Faith means being able to ignore evidence. It was inculcated in me from the time I was born. Maybe why almost a year into this awakening I'm still f'd up...
Not sure how this relates to the discussion, but that's what faith is for my parents and their generation of JWs.

Prayers that are heard. Fuel for a vehicle - YUP. Save us from death - NAH.
by Captain Blithering ini spoke to a ms the other day, trying to get his opinion on the wt we'd just studied at the meeting.
the paragraph where the co didn't know if he had enough money to afford gas for a trip, he prayed and went anyway, and someone donated the exact amount to cover his trip.. my question to the ms was - the wt clearly are saying jah answered that prayer, yet there were a couple dozen jw's sheltering in a kh in the philippines, undoubtedly praying, yet they all died in the hurricane.
how's that work, how can jah answer some prayers but not others?.

One of my favorite topics. God answering the wackiest of prayers. 68 dollars for the pioneers insurance and meanwhile last night children were raped.

by Captain Blithering inyo dudes.. .
i've been studying ttatt for nearly a year now, i'm pretty much convinced wt theology is a crock, but i can't just leave as i don't want to lose family, and i simply can't disappoint my elderly aging parent.. .
i'm prepared for the long game fade (could be a few years), but have been sowing seeds with the wifey little bit by little bit.

'Evolution' of the Creative Days length
by Syme inwe all know that wts likes to distance itself from the young earth creationists, who believe in the literal 6-day creation.. so are we supposed to be something fundamentally different from the yecs?
not so much.... i did some research some time ago about what the society believes abouth the length of the creative days.
this is what i found:.

Egyptian Timeline Research
by konceptual99 inhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-23947820.
it is suggesting that the accepted dates for the egyptian timelines need to change.
does anyone have a more informed and scholarly view on this?.

Very interesting. Thanks for taking the time to post those. It's funny that they say it must have been after the flood. As if there is no choice. The flood happened and within 100 years Noah's sons did such a poor job of teaching their children about god and the flood that there were enough people to start all the worlds civilizations AND still have enough people left to make a tower so great it is mentioned in the bible.
I don't think people realize that Noah and his sons would have lived for most of that 100 year time, and somehow even though the earth would look like a war zone and trying to feed those numbers of people would be almost impossible with no vegetation and no animals, we would have to believe that most all people on earth rebelled against god again and tried to make a Tower of Babel.

Sorry. What sucks is that life outside is great until they start harassing you. It's happening to me tight now... Ignore ignore ignore. In your case it's been years and if you ignore then you don't show you acknowledge the authority of the Cong.
