Please explain why we can't know how old the universe is. I don't get it. Other than you saying we can't, I haven't noticed you point out why.

Will gay marriage hurt freedom of religion?
by jam insorry if this have been posted before.. but in my local newspaper today an interesting article.. red blue america... the first amendment and same-sex marriage cannot coexist harmoniously.
something will have to give---and it will start with the freedom of conscience.. here's why: if the law says there can be no "rational basis" for treating the union between a man and a woman as something unique-if a union between any two(or,perhaps someday, more) consenting adults is a "marriage"----then it really doesn't matter what your conscience tells you.. we don't prosecute people for holding unpopular beliefs--yet- but the authorities do look askance at discrimination.
that's why we hear so much lately about caterers, photographers and florists running afoul of several states' civil rights laws for refusing to do business with gay couples.. it's only a matter of time before what we understand as "freedom of religion" is whittled down to little more than the freedom to worship whatever deity you choose in a special building one day out of the week.. this is not the entire article, just a few key points.

Who cares? Down with any religion which is unhealthy and treats certain people unfairly. I can't see why in a modern society in this day we as a people would say two people who love each other and want to commit are unworthy of benefits a boy and girl have. It's discrimination. I could see someone acknowledging its discrimination and unfair, but saying the bible says I have to, so I have to. But, a government and country as a whole??? The government should leave the bible and all religion out of its decisions and decide based on rational fairness.

James how long does it take diamonds to form? James even the JWs admit Neanderthals existed now, they just make vague references to them being an extinct race. Do you believe this, or do you think Neanderthals were apes?

Former Long Time Elder - Judicial Committees
by James Jackson inwhen i first was appointed as an elder, i could not wait to be on a judicial committee.
it semed like most hearings invovled middle age men and women cheating on their mates because either they had married early or felt that were being neglected by their mate.
most times i felt i need to take a long hot shower after a hearing.. the toughest part was seeing these sweet young children grow up in "the truth", and now you are about to judge their future based on their repentance.

Disfellowshipping repentant wrong doers because it was a repeat a previous offense is what bothers me. I've had elders say they know she was sorry but it was a repeat of a previous offense so it can't be repentance according to the elders book and jah. Ugg.

Part 3: My mother continues to try to ruin me
by sosoconfused ini am not sure if anyone cares, but the drama with my mother and me leaving the org continues.. apparently after todays craptower she goes on a spastic rant that because of my decision i am slowly killing her and my father.
the funny thing is i do not feel bad over this... i can't.. i have children and a wife of my own that i need to be happy for.
i love them - but as they get older and closer to death i realize that a new season is coming and imust care for my family the best way i can... the same way they thought they were doing.

Sorry about what your going through. It's about time to say goodbye mentally to them. For your mental health I would suggest before long you not answer the phone a d just delete the emails unread. It's obvious that they are hurting but it's not something can fix or do anything about. Best wishes.

by Amelia Ashton inyesterday i had a real blast from my past turn up un-announced on my doorstep.
she bumped into my daughter (who has rejected me) in sainsbury's, took her to lunch and got my address from her.
she claims she has been searching for me ever since she discovered i was back in the uk.. she is a disfellowshipped sister who was described by one of our elders as a wagon.

If they are not married, and unable to marry, then why as best friends couldn't they hold hands in the new order? Or if they are "like the angels" as its always said, then they could live together, sleep in the same bed and just have no desire or ability to have sex. Seems like a bunch of stupidity. And what it really revolves around is the fact that they know their printed explanation of resurrected people not marrying is hogwash. They realize full well it's full of holes. But, they can't say so, since the bible seems to indicate as they say.
One of the many things you realize is just total crap when you wake up.

Evolution is Crap, there I said it!

My wife isn't sure what she believes anymore. But, she leans toward a god being there and evolution being true. Like maybe at key moments or starting places evolution was directed. Is that what you would call Theistic Evolution?
