Wow, Bobcat, that was cold. Reminds me of a bank robbery scene in the old movies where they'd make everyone sit on the floor and one or two guys would walk around with guns while the other guy collected all their money and jewelry.

James Brown, I remember being scared all the time about the Cuban missile crisis. We lived near the water and I was terrified that the Cuban soldiers could come right up to our house at night and we'd never know. I was not a jw then. I can only imagine how living through that within the framework of armageddon fear would have been so much worse.

What surprising reactions have you experienced from family and friends?
by cultBgone inmusing over several rather eye-opening reactions i've recently experienced has made me wonder what others have been told that made them go...wow.. my earliest was a family member upset with me for not attending meetings who exclaimed, "but you're going to die at armageddon!
" i told them that wasn't true because the bible says that god is love and he doesn't work that way.
they were very angry with me!

Hmmm....a bro who I thought was pretty depressed despite thealways fake overlarge smile, who had been removed as an eldub a few years back, sent me (at one year inactive) a cd recording of someone's talk "that always helped him when he was down" and a note. (I thought the gb had cautioned about recording talks by individuals, yes?) In year two, I received another note which basically said that I probably felt low, dirty and unworthy to associate with j's fine folks but this was precisely the time I need to do that! Whaaa??? What in the world makes jdubs think you are crawling in the gutters and miserable because you CHOSE TO WALK AWAY FROM CRAZYLAND???
Amazing. Did I used to think that stoopid?

So my adult child was excited about it because they NEEDED THE FUNDS yes indeed to set up a new translation department in one of the pricier areas of our state. I remarked about the gazillions of dollars recently made on the sale of NY properties and was given that answer...and I reiterated, but It Doesn't Make Sense, they just brought in milions and millions of dollars. I got the pissed-off glare and I commented to the receding person, I don't care how mad you are, it just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
Let's see if that sinks in.

" The first question is: Have you recognized yourself before Jehovah God as a sinner who needs salvation, and have you acknowledged to him that this salvation proceeds from him, the Father, through his Son Jesus Christ?
The second question is: On the basis of this faith in God and in his provision for salvation, have you dedicated yourself unreservedly to God to do his will henceforth as he reveals it to you through Jesus Christ and through the Bible under the enlightening power of the holy spirit? "
Gosh, Phizz, that sounds like a religion. Sadly, I made it under the 'whoops, we changed it to recognizing blah blah organization blah blah.'

I was counciled for putting in Pioneer hours and not officially "Pioneering"
by RubaDub ini didn't want to hijack the thread about people having to "wait" until the society approves their pioneer status.. i recall once an elder was shocked that i had done the 60 hours a couple of months but not officially on the pioneer list for the months.
i told him that i didn't need the title, that the purpose was to do the work, not get a title.. i then heard a long lecture about how that was not encouraging to others, etc, etc, etc.. he got rather annoyed when i asked him what the purpose of the preaching work is.
of course he said to spread the good news.

Once upon a time when we lived in a small rural congregation with only one pioneer (and she was an anointed sister sent there by the wts), a family member and I decided we would try to support her efforts and submitted our pio applications. While waiting to be approved, we did 100+ hours just to see if we could. The weather was good and we had the time that summer/fall, so it was kinda fun. Well, the eldubs never got back to us and when we asked about our applications, they told us that they weren't sure we could do the hours. Right.... btw, before we stepped it up, our regular hours were 40-50. So then they said, well if you can keep up the hours then we'll announce you in January. So they made us be reg aux pios for four months instead.
Turns out the real reason they held us back was so the p.o. could be announced at the same time. They apparently didn't want us to take any of his "glory." We kept it up for years....he was deleted as an elder about a year later.
Things that make you go....sigh....lol

I'm being unreasonable? Unreasonable is using the "imperfect men" excuse for an organization created by men who use nonsensical language to distort your thinking, watcher. You need to wake up.
If there is only ONE organization on this earth that represents God, then it should be distinguishable by its Perfection, not by its Imperfection. The bible never says that God's followers are to be known by their sinful conduct. If you can't tell the difference between religions because they protect child molesters while allowing the victims to go unassisted and shamed, there is no way any one of them represents God.
Has your child been molested and were you told to keep it quiet...like what happened to my family? I doubt it.
Unreasonable my arse.
