i have met a wonderful man but unfortunately he is a jw.
i have never been interested or really ever been around any religion in my life so all of this right now is very fascinating to me.
i have been thinking of studying to become one but am also having a hard time finding anything on the net that is positive about it.

I haven't read the complete thread - so winging it here. I'm a jw woman of 30 yrs, started studying because the guy I was dating was a jw "returning to The Truth". Thus, my journey began....and it wasn't all bad - but a LOT of it was.
Would I have been better off not becoming a jw? YES. Why? I could have joined another religion not so oppressive of women & children. We are the ignored, second-class members of the JW's....and anyone who tells you different is lying. Everything is geared to men - and primarily white men. Btw, men are oppressed also....it's just that women & children are oppressed more.
Do you realize that after you marry a jw man - (depending on where you live) - you won't even be able to ask a question to elders without first asking your husband that question....because he has headship over you, and you'd be "overstepping" your boundaries. I know that cutie from personal experience.
Jehovah's Witnesses are deemed by some as a cult, by others - a very high control fundamentalist group. It is both of these.....and it is a money-making, book selling corporation masking as a religion. Local JW's are the non-paid salesmen. Nothing more to the corporation.

my husband & I were jw's for 55 & 30 yrs respectively. We've also owned & run our own business for 30 yrs. I work in the store (which is almost totally male orientated) - so when I get a couple of minutes, I chose to talk about something other than car assessories.
Although, I can talk car assessories better than most people.
Oh, we work 6 days a week for over 6 yrs. now. yuck.

well, it's been a long time coming, but my publisher just sent me the proof for the cover of my sci-fi novel today, and it looks fantastic!
i wrote back and told them it was well worth the wait.. as soon as they release the book, i'll make a shameless announcement so you can all rush out and buy a copy.

every so often i get a phone call from jt and i thoroughly enjoy our conversations.
no only do i learn a little more about the inner workings of bethel, we also end up laughing to the level of blowing snot out of our noses.
one of the topics that we discussed this time was the inability of farmers, short order cooks, and retired janitors disguised as elders that try to use their breakfast cereal box psychology to fix complex marital problems of their flock.
Just as a side topic of beastiality.......when I was in therapy, one of the first questions my therapist asked about my father was - raised in rural or city? That would have been in the 30's.
She said (even by today's standards) that beastiality is quite common in rural (primarily farming) communities among boys/men.
I gave the same "yuuuuuuuuuuuuck" - and she said she was trying to help me see the difference in what's "accepted" and what I viewed as "normal."
in view of what has recently happened to rozalyn (rebel) i believe anyone who is considering attending a judicial committee should take note:.

A simple rule for evaluation is to take the subject out of context. Or to change the context and see if it still works. Another useful tool is to reduce to the ridiculous. Those are the concepts of my Okies stories. GaryB

and this is in part due to my health problems and how they are affecting me.. i got those $400 orthotics to put in my shoes.
$400 shoes? lol - the women on Sex in the City have closets full of those sexy lil' thingies.
As for long term pain? I had major oral surgery some years ago - and on one of the umteenth visits back, I started to cry when the surgeon asked how I was doing. I apologized & said I don't handle long term pain well. His response? "Nobody does."
So welcome to humanity - as many have shown above, lots of people share similarily with you.

Yesssssssss! I can vouch for Seven's method -and her cooking abilities. All her gourmet stuff arrived in wonderful shape & the JW guy who worked with me helped me eat MY Christmas gift!
If a pie sounds risky - how about pumpkin tarts (which have nothing to do with sucking) --- the tarts would be smaller, perhaps even shipping in the cupcake tin?
