Children calling jw adults uncle and auntie, when did that start?

it sure is a peadophiles dream to have a kid they dont know call them uncle!
they are now in a special relationship.

I remember growing up seeing kids on the knees of brothers that they hardly knew at the hall and social gatherings. Now i look back and think its a bit sick.

Was Mark the template for the other gospel accounts?
by awakening ini was checking out why the watchtower study was using the book of matthew regarding the last days during the meeting.
i read somewhere, and please correct me if i am wrong, that mark was written in advance of the other accounts.. i thought the differences were startling.
mark makes no mention of "as in the days of noah".

I thought the differences were startling. Mark makes no mention of "as in the days of Noah". Mark clearly is writing in terms of one event, i cant see any reference to a future fulfilment.
Is this why the org dosent often use Mark regarding the end of the system?

My regular weekly chat with an elder who is trying to keep me on the straight and narrow amazed me!
We were on the subject of Jehovahs blessing. I said its my mothers belief that Jehovah has blessed her and the family over their years of faithful service. She can relate several experiences that are Jehovahs direct hand on a matter.
My chat with my Mother first -
I said to my mother that I felt that such intervention is nonsense, since it implies that a god is infact partial. Surely the idea that Jehovah had a direct hand in delivering my sister from a life threatening illness implies that he ignored or didnt care about another witness who dies in that situation. My mothers response was astonashing, she said that Jehovah helped my sister because it worked out to be a great witness to the community re. the blood issue. He may choose not to help another person in the same situation as this will allow them the chance to remain faithful to the end!!!!
How can you even begin to reason with that kind of thought prosess?
Surprisingly the Elder admitted that too many events among the witnesses are credited with Jehovahs direct hand, but he said in the next breath that because Jehovah is behind his people then all good things do come from god, so in effect we do receive blessings from Jehovah.
I then talked about the "take it and leave it" mentality. If its good its Jehovahs blessing if its bad its Satan putting pressure on. If an archaeologist finds something to support an event, use it. If the same person finds something contrary then dont use it or discredit it.They did this with the Ptolemy cannon, quoted it for support and then in another instance say that it is unreliable. Its the same with everything!!!! So frustrating because its impossible to reason with people like this.

quite simply it seems to me that a company of 3 million plus livestock could not possibly be sustained in the wilderness, and if they were there then there would definately be evidence.
one writer described the size of the crowd as - imagine 10 people stood side by side, well the line would be 120 miles long with a 3 million crowd.. the elder went through the insight book and discussed the organization of the crowd which has the encampment spread into divisions etc.

The elder said he was not concerned by the lack of any archaeological evidence since they may find something in years to come. He said that infact his faith had been strengthened by the discussion.
We then got on to prophecy and my view that no modern day prophecy has been fulfilled apart from the organization self fulfilling prophecy. My example was the crazy one from the revelation book that the trumpet blasts were prophecy fulfilled by historic assemblies!! He seemed to pale when i mentioned this and i got the feeling that he even thought this was strange, the subject was quickly changed.
He said that the book of isaiah has been positively proven to be writen in advance of the events it foretold. How would you answer?

His point was that Jehovah would have known what was in Judas heart but allowed Jesus to select him, thus proving that Jehovah allows his people to make mistakes but will sort it out in line with his purpose!

Had a sit down chat with an elder who is aware of my doubts. We were on the subject of new light, i was saying that if the org changes a teaching then the old teaching was wrong and cannot qualify as truth at the time it was taught, so where did the falsehood come from?
His response was the GB is imperfect!! I said that its a cop out when things they teach as truth are spirit directed, but when they get it wrong its imperfection. His reply was that Jesus after heartfelt prayer selected Judas. So Jehovah allows his spirit directed people to get things wrong and this is no reflection on their status as spirit directed!

Many thanks for shring your story, I always like reading your topics and comments because you tell it like it is. That is something that i struggle with. Its amazing how much control the org had over my thoughts and expressions. So its a great help to me to hear real honest expressions about life in and after the org!
