Have you put on the "New Personality" ?

when we were in we were often read that scripture and told we should work hard at putting on the new personality, which in wt speak meant their cult personality, nothing like the person of christ.. since leaving it has become necessary for us to make deep internal changes, to our worldview, to our emotions, and to our actions.. we have had to change from being controlled in all these areas by the wt cult, to forming our own new personality.. for born-ins like me this is really quite a task, we do not have a "pre-cult" personality to "recover".

but even for converts, there is stilll this work to do, before you joined you may have been racist, homophobic, or perhaps a thief, or immoral in some other way, surely you do not wish to "recover" those aspects of your original personality ?so you too have to "put on" a new one.. how are we all doing with this ?

i know that for me i feel it is still a work in progress, i need to work on certain things that are the result of my being in the jw/wt scam for all those decades, and some things that are a part of my natural personality which are not desireable as traits, laziness for example, and i am the arch-procrastinator, not good.. how do you guys feel you are doing since leaving ?.

As a JW, my opportunities for showing true love and kindness to others were restricted. Restricted in the sense of: No community volunteering, no giving financially to charities, no real kindnesses shown to anyone not a JW, etc....

Now, many opportunities have opened up! I'm not rushing to go in field service every morning and coming home exhausted, so I regularly shovel my elderly neighbor's walk. I'm not racing to meetings in the evenings, so I have time to make brownies and take them over to meet the new neighbor. I've learned that door to door is NOT performing a community service. Joining in with your neighbors for annual spring clean-ups, volunteering at seniors centers, donating to women's shelters, and helping to sort winter clothing for the homeless are much more practical ways to serve your community.

PLUS, there's personal satisfaction you don't get from ringing doorbells on empty houses.

Is this "putting on the new personality"? Or is it just be more able to fully use the one I have?

because if you just read it then its plain that all should partake of the emblems and go to heaven etc.

they get around that by saying it only applied to those when written who all anointed and then a small group today.

so they take away the bible for the average witness.

I never gave this idea of the NT only being written for the anointed, much thought until after I was out.

They also claim that one of the trumpet blasts in Revelation was the 1922 Cedar Point, Ohio assembly. How does an obscure meeting of a few hundred people almost 100 years ago, that no one took notice of equate to a trumpet blast that is heard all over the world?

They are only important in their own eyes.

Jamaican Branch Office Closing

i'm from jamaica, montego bay to be exact.

if there are other jamaicans here, feel free to let me know.. with that said, it was announced at our last meeting (a letter was read) that the branch office (bethel) in kingston would be closing, and affairs would soon be directed from us hq.

now the branch office here is a large compound built on acres of prime real estate.

A mistake in fading 4 months ago is coming back to haunt me... HELP!!

so today, two elders from a congregation i was in two years ago came by the house.

they said they wanted to talk to me about things that they have heard, and that they want to talk to me very quickly, as soon as possible.

perhaps before this week ends.. i don't know what to do!!

I don't think they're going to buy that someone impersonated you on Facebook.

If you're not ready to be DFed, you will have to convince them that you made a horrible mistake in talking to the woman and that you are incredibly sorry for it. Otherwise, avoiding them is good advice. They could still DF you anyways, but if you don't talk to them, you'll have more options later on.

Handle it in the best way for YOU. Good luck.

Rutherford once made everyone at a convention say "Aye!" to a resolution that Olin Moyle was doing Satan's work and they all resolved that they would shun him from now on and not listen to anything Mr. Moyle said.

I don't think many of them knew Mr. Moyle personally, but they all said "Aye!"

I never liked how the WT interpretation made Dinah out to be the cause of all the problems in the situation. Typical mysoginist thinking - the men do all this bad stuff, then blame it all on the woman, who in reality had absolutely no power in those days.
