hong xiuquan, and the heavenly hope.
by singsongboi inone of the most instructive books i have read in my post-christian life, is called "god's chinese son" by jonathon spence.. it's the story of hong xiuquan, who became the founder of the taiping christian religion in china - and forced to fight for his/it's existence, came close to overthrowing the qing (manchu) dynasty... it's an instructive story, because xiuquan after having studied the bible with missionaries, fell ill and in the time that he wavered between life and death, became convinced that he was the son of god.. here is my lesson --- how often, christian zeal, and conviction of a close (filial) relationship with god grows out of illness.. what do you think ????

It's not rare.
Mary Baker Eddy's Christian Science religion is based on faith/God overcomes illness. She relates that her ill health and paralysis from a fall on the ice was cured by faith, so started her writings.
Ellen G. White was hit in the head with a rock and regained full conciousness three weeks later. It doesn't surprise me she had some revelations afterward.
I'm sure there are others.

Will the WBTS order JW's to Kill??
by Anne Marie indear post reader,.
about nine months ago, while surfing through different jw web sites, i came across a reference to an e-mail that was sent to the poster.. the e-mail basically said that with the way that things are going with the society, i.e., so many " waking up", and not being so easy to mislead and control., that there very likely will be a "big" announcement regarding the order to kill the "apostates" and the "wicked people".. the source said that it would go something like this:.
there would be talks, and some wordings in the magazines, alluding to an upcoming announcement.

Think a kill order will make it past corporate WTS Legal Dept.? LOL. Rest easy.
I'm still of the opinion that it's "all about the money boys!".

May I play too? Answer:
Not have to be so darn embarrassing.
For example:
Standing like a big parrot: at a strangers doorstep, in front of a classroom, before co-workers explaining why I'm ringing doorbells, not patriotic, and don't celebrate holidays/birthdays because I'm a Jehovah's Witness(Jack*ss & Witless) and supposedly proud of it.

Thanks for posting the essay. Wish I had the time to read more of the site's topics. A secular historical view is so enlightening. It was interesting reading.

I don't, but if there is I don't care. After discovering the truth about the truth, my next step was to search out Christianity. I researched and gave credit were it was due.
The JWs were wrong about grace, bible translation and God's name, trinity, the second coming, paradise earth, spirit anointed, oh yes, I'm with the Catholics that Revelation is a mystery, etc. I had to lean towards a fiery hell as most Christian denominations accept it.
The fiery hell is THE turning point in my taking an open minded look at religion altogether. It is difficult to think about it without going on a rant. Burning in a fiery hell forever?! Any God that invented that IS Satan the ultimate evil! I hope I go to Hell and gain rank!
Hellfire or any scare tactics including "you will have no reward" as JW/SDA believe, or eternal punishment in nonchristian religions, is for control IMO.
Whew! Just wanted to get that out of my system.

Ha, ha. Living the double life. This site name is toonser so others will think its my music picks and plus the SNL driving, crashing cat was funny. Fred Hall should like that one. Using passwords made others suspicious and when the modem lines needed work I had to open my user name, in front of an audience, to check if I'm online. I set my history on 2 days and dump it as well as search words & http addresses daily. Other saves I'll rename using initials.

1975
by musky inthere has been much said about the watchtower saying that the end would come in 1975. i have never seen any evidence that the watchtower said the end would definitely come in 1975. if there was such evidence, there would certainly be little or no witnesses left today, i believe.
i do not believe that excuses the fact that they definitely put that idea in peoples heads.
i was 10 years old then.

hi
I went along the 1975 end date along with the majority of JWs at that time. The ones who were not true believers must have been swept up in the hype somehow otherwise one could not sit through all the fervent buildup. OMG that reminds me, do you remember the Watchtower study explaining just how JWs are zealots NOT fanatics around that time?
It's still surprising the measures a few JWs took to prepare for the end. I also knew families that sold their homes to move to where the need was greater. I knew families that stored up large amounts of food and did not enroll their children in school. I was warned in 1968-9 that Armaggedon might come while I was visiting my nonJW mother during summer vacation.
I like to see this topic appear, here and on other websites. Don't let 1975 die and become like 1914 Armageddon date, forgotten or a doctored memory.

I wonder who the article writer is? He/they appear impressed with their own big head, oops brain. Had to take a jab at this one.
