everyone on this board has always been there for me when i needed help and i appreciate it so much.

now it is my friend that is in trouble.

(the same one that i wrote about in most of my other posts particularly the ones about ray franz and coc).

Sorry, but their is NO excuse for this. *EVER* I'd die before I hurt my wife, and any guy who doesn't feel the same way doesn't deserve a woman's company.

She needs to LEAVE HER HUSBAND. ****NOW****

Yeah, she's got kids. Okay, that sucks that they'll have to grow up without a dad, but if he's being abusive, well to say they'd be better off without him is an understatement (this is not opinion, BTW). (He's abusive AND JOINING A CULT?!?!)

And she's already called "1-800 - WHY 1914"?? Isn't that for sexual abuse?!?!

Why is there even a discussion here?

i was reading through some old quotes at the quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com site, and had something of an epiphany.

it is simultaneously revealing and revolting, and i'd like to share it.. what the society expects of its members.

the society expects its members to live and *die* for their teachings [yes, everyone here knows it - the society expects you do die for their teachings if necessary].. and, at the same time as you lie there dying for their beliefs, expects you to accept (?joyfully?

this comes from the branch in canada....... in england one of our blind brothers had a seeing-eye dog that would.

Oh, yeah, I've heard the 'psychic' ones, too. A witness girl goes out after school with a bunch of her wordly classmates and they go to a psychic. She reads all their fortunes, but when she gets to the witness girl, can't.

The psychic finds out that trying to do whatever spiritistic thing she was doing to the witness girl made her lose her contact to the demon realm, so blahblahblah.....something horrible happens to the witness girl to demonstrate that bad association, blahblahblah....

And, who hasn't heard about the smurfs that get up and walk out of a bookstudy?

Or the apostate book (name never mentioned) that won't burn? Or, when you try and burn it, if you walk away from the fire, it will re-appear where it was before, totally unscathed?

Actually, now that you mention it, this *MIGHT* be a funny topic to run with...

im a liceinced electrician now working in wireless communication installations.i love the electrical industry,there is so much to learn and so many different things do work with and technology is always changing.never a boaring day especially when we are working in the office buildings downtown,chicks everywhere!.

I'm a mainframe COBOL programmer working for a stock transfer company outside of Boston.

COBOL? Damn, people still speak that? I think I learned about it in one of my history classes or something...

Me, I'm taking classes for Visual C++ and Java, with VisualBasic already well under my belt. (I do programming as a hobby right now, but am working towards the software engineering department at my company).

Currently, I work as a PC support rep. Solve all kinds of software and OS related problems. (And hardware problems, but only becuase I build gaming PCs as a hobby, too, so I know *lots* about hardware!).

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the company I work for writes telecommunications and operator center support software - so I have the whole telecom thing going, too.

Heads up to those in this thread....

Serious Sam 2 *rocks*. It's only $20, but it rocks much more than the price would suggest.

It is a throwback to the Doom-era 'twitch'-shooters. Not much strategy, just hordes of monsters, plenty of powerups, lots of monsters, tons of ammo, undless waves of monsters, and boss battles at each level end. Oh, and the graphics are the best thing since T2. Really impressive.

Good game, with a great sense of humor (everyone found the 'Hall of Fame' in level 1?? ROFLMAO!!)

did you have narrow minded turds as elders/overseers in your congregation?

yup so did i...they're everwhere.. "there was this one time..at band camp"....it was in a hired hall actually...where we used to organise congregation functions like farewells etc.

this usually consisted of food...non alcoholic beverages...and some entertainment...usually square dancing and some skits...and a presentation or speech.. at one function a particular elder was offended that the 'gay gordon' was one of the dances for the evening...so he promptly left...yup...at the next function it was renamed the 'happy gordon'...as his conscience wouldn't allow him to attend otherwise.

After our meetings...we weren't even allowed to listen to the radio on our way home..we had to reflect on the talks blah blah...not when I was a kid either...this was when I was a grown up lol.

HAH - yes, I remember this. Didn't really help. 'Reflect on the talks' indeed! *retch* It did give me and my brother a lot of time to fight in the back seat, though!

We even got a 'special needs' part on it. They put four chairs up on the stage in a 'car' arrangement and had one of the elders families sit on them pretending to drive home (dad was driving, of course). They demonstrated how easy it was to discuss the highlights of the meeting, and how upbuilding and *EXCITING* it could be. *retch*

And, yeah, stumbling....uggg...

Sometimes, I swear, the elders hired a group of people in the hall whose sole purpose was to run around and be stumbled at EVERYTHING, so that if an unexpected need to DF someone came up, there would be already available JC ammo.

Somebody should really compile a book of Dub Urban Legends...it would be a great read!

2SYN, I've thought about that. It seemed like an interesting idea at first, but then I thought some more about it.

- How would you prove the stories are false? The WTBTS never quotes sources, never gives dates or places?

- Unless you can prove the stories are false, the unlikeliness of them just supports the witness claims - since it is so unplausible, and yet the society tells them it is true, it must be the work of 'god' (everyone smiles and applauds).

The end result of such a work without proof one way or the other would look...well...remarkably like a yearbook.

Yeah, but how can any rational person accept it?

I mean, how can they claim they have the word of god, and be so certain of it to require your loyalty to the death, but reserve the right to 'not fully understand' the scriptures at the time?!?!
