New - My biography
by TuningFork inwhere do i start?
it's difficult to bring up all of the negative start in life, however, i believe that without my upbringing i would not have known where to search for the truth later on in life - within.
the jw is all i knew from the age of 6. when i left at 19 in the year of 1973, i was disfellowshipped for sex, drugs, and rock and roll.

I know this is an OLD thread, but I just found it. I'm a huge, gigantic fan of Buffy, my favorite character is Spike, but I don't get television where I live, so for my birthday every year I get the DVD set of the previous season, I have one and two so I"m WAY behind, does anyone know when season three will be released?

I have to agree whole-heartedly with Xena. Being in a religion that supressed all independent thinking, it seems that we'd all be just a little more open-minded to new ideas without throwing them out without even thinking about it first. I don't have an opinion on the first post yet, I don't have enough information yet, but if you think it sounds strange, think about this... there was a god, he decided to make the race of man, so he got some dirt and spit in it and made man. Then he took a rib from this man and made woman. Just stated like that it sounds strange as well. Just a thought.

Is There ANYTHING That Would Make You Go Back?
by SpannerintheWorks incould the wbts change anything about it's beliefs that would entice you back to the religion?.
or are you firmly against the wbts no matter what?.
even if it changed it's rules on shunning, blood, "worldly things" ?.

NO way. I don't believe in ANY organzied religion to worship the creator (whatever that may be)... and even if god came down and told me to.... I still wouldn't because, I'd rather be happy for my short life now, than be miserable forever.

I got an answer from my dad
by Elsewhere infor several months i have been asking my family and the organization what the difference is between someone who "simply leaves the faith" and someone who "went out" (disassociates).. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.aspx?id=39631&site=3 .
today i finally got the answer from my dad on the phone.
according to my dad (an elder), someone who simply leaves the faith is someone who still believes in jehovah and the organization, but does not attend the meetings.

Isn't it sad how many of us here can say with experience they know how you feel. Doesn't help maybe, but you are worth to much to torment yourself. You are the stronger one to get out. Don't forget that, you can't let them drag you down with all the progress you have made.
I hope you can find a measure of peace,
big hugs.

unitarian universalism first and Jehovahs witness last! My husband who is now a part of this forum since yesterday (yay!) is one that believes in like scientic research to save humankind??? something like that cybernetics or something.... I was suprised how right on the test was, however even more suprised that I think I believed in the secular humanist stuff more. Maybe its because I'm in the south, but I've never heard of these churchs? Have you guys?

advice giving
by yumbby init's really amazing the changes you go through getting away from the "troof".. things you didn't even know affected you.
like compulsive advice giving.
did you ever notice that witnesses are conditioned to have an answer for everything???

It's really amazing the changes you go through getting away from the "troof".. Things you didn't even know affected you. Like compulsive advice giving. Did you ever notice that witnesses are conditioned to have an answer for everything??? If you don't know, I'm sure the bound volumes will give you the answer. Now that I'm out in the big bad world, I've noticed that constantly giving advice or trying to find the answer isn't what most people want. I'm training myself to just listen.. and maybe not have all the answers except a hug or a "well that sure sucks for you" as my husband likes to say. We don't have to fix everything for everyone. wow. I had a light bulb moment. Anyone else relate to this??

How Do You Measure Your Self Worth?
by minimus inhow do you feel about yourself?
do you struggle with what kind of person that you are?
do you feel happy, empty, or are are you apathetic?

I'm still fighting tying my self worth to what I can accomplish, like in a list, which I purposelly fail at so that I can beat myself up over how worthless I am. It's a vicious cycle, because I certainly can't fulfill all the duties on my list in one day, and especially when I so down about the day before I don't have the energy to finish everything, so it goes on and on. I know this is unhealthy, so someday I hope to figure out how to fix it. hows that for a cheery post. geez. sorry.

Should we care about "lurkers"?
by expatbrit inive noticed some discussion on the question of whether we should be concerned about moderating our behaviour because of what lurking jws will think.
should we be concerned about scaring off jws who may be starting to question the wt, or should anything go because if they can't deal with the real world it's not our problem and we should be ourselves?.
the following are some of my thoughts.

One more thing. sorry, I reread the first post and I must append. I feel that we have all gotten comfortable with each other like we are hanging out in each others homes, and in a way we are... so we "let our hair down" as the saying goes, and probably to an outsider somethings would be offensive, and this is I guess a public forum, however anyone reading for more than a couple minutes could tell this is not a pro-watchtower site. And I've belonged to a lot of discussion and chat groups, and all of the healing ones, whether it is from abuse, religion, drugs or whatever, start to get the flavor and attitudes of this one, I think its the support forum way, it just seems to always follow this path when it is a support sort of forum. If you've ever spent time in a mental hospital or home, or even group therapy session, you'll see a lot of the same behaviour exhibited here. So in that way, It really wouldn't appeal to a regular joe on the street, because really he wouldn't understand what is behind a lot of what everyone says. wow. I'm really rambling. sorry.
