  New Light on Planet Jehovah?

  has the watchtower ever officially backed down from their doctrine that jehovah lived in the pleides constellation, probably around the star alcyone?

  did they just let the matter fade?.

  if not, why are they not funding astronomy.

  Sandy, this is one of the fun ones. It has to do with the Great Pyramid and the numerology that the society went by until the late 20's. In short, Jehovah was the architect and the Pyramid was a Witness to Jehovah with it's measurements clearly defining date timelines - in inches. Anyway, the Pyramid points (thru the top) to a constelation and that is obviously where Jehovah lives. By the way, the door points to where Satan lives.

  Isn't that special?

  And, I know the JWs backed away from the Pyramid thing in the 20's. The pyramid was Satan's cleverest and most subtle trick, you see. I don't remember a specific declaration regarding the divine residence. But I always took it as implied by the denial of the pyramid.

  JW Urban Legends

  did any of you hear any of the urban legends that jw's used to scare people into being deathly afraid of demons?

  for example i remeber hearing that a child brough a smurf doll to a meeting and upon hearing the name jehovah uttered it got up and walked out.

  The Exorcist one snuck into our hall. Our story described a sister that went to the movie and somewhere along she decided that the movie was too demonic. When she tried to get up she felt hands holding her in her seat. I remember all the fools in the hall nodding to themselves with this 'I told you so' attitude.

  what they've done in effect is to argue that their first amendment rights must prevail, so they can then turn around and use that right to deprive all of their members of that very same right and liberty that comes with that right.

  Witness Killings Because Of Shunning Practice

  does anyone watch court tv?

  yesterday they had two stories of witnesses killing family members all because of this shunning practice.

  I have been a bit cross-eyed at how little news-play the JW angle on these murders has gotten. The general public is pretty much unaware - even where I live, Southwest Washington - just over the river from Portland. I think it is newsworthy how being tossed out of a group that has been your social, familial, and financial center, can really screw a person up.

  I think that if the mother had been the perp., it would have received more air time (and no, I'm not trying to start a fight). People pretty much don't care why. I think the sentiment is 'fry the bastard, and pass the potato chips.' Remeber the woman that drowned her kids? I saw a lot more news about the nutty-as-a-fruitcake religious stuff that family was into.

  so far i've had so many wonderful replies to my questions that i dare to venture one more here.. i will tell you a story about abuse in my family by a guy that has become an elder lately.

  i will however change some details as i am still afraid to be recognised and dfd (i faded away very happily).. about 10 years ago a member of my close family was raped by a guy.

  even though he was 'only 16' (this has been said as an excuse which really pisses me off), he was raping her when she was only 7 years old!!!

  There are lawyers for this sort of stuff. You'll need some advice on slander and any statute of limitations. But don't post any names here - at least until after you've had that conversation with an attorney.

  But if you decide to press it, keep us posted.

  The Watchtower Letters, part 1

  recently, i was going through some very old files, and i came across a folder containing correspondence i had with the watchtower society, mainly back in the 1970's, when i was a true-blue believer.

  i wasn't shy about writing to them for answers back in those days, whenever an issue arose that i couldn't resolve in other ways.

  some of the letters are that sort of two-way correspondence, others are things like form letters from the society to pioneers, and other stuff like that.

  I refuse to read this stuff again, and again, looking for little nuances. I have always felt that I am bright enough that if they are trying to tell me something straight, then I will understand. But I read that letter from the Society looking for an answer to your first q. It ain't there. Of course not, it can't be there. The publications prophesied that the men of old would return in 1925. They even built Rutherford's retirement home Beth Sarim for the drunk to retire to the returning princes. (I love the thought process that ended with ' ... and of course they'll want to rule the earth from San Diego.') That prophecy didn't come true. There's no way around that.

  Truth be told though, I love reading how they toss in the 'there is no zero year' whenever they need you to be totally confused. We all remember being in. Remember reading such tripe and walking away thinking something like, 'of course, no year zero, that proves that they weren't wrong about the returning princes.'

  To this day, my head shakes when I think that at one time I tolerated that crap.

  last year they told me they had to limit their association with me.

  Remember the term Theocratic Warfare? Since your dubbie family is fanatic enough to shun you, then you can count on the fact that they consider fair game any tactic that'll get your children into the fold. For young children, it starts by subtly undermining your position in the children's eyes. For older children, its more direct.

  But you need to have a certain position in your children's eyes to raise them effectively. Your goodie-two-shoe, meddling, conditionally loving, cultist parents will take any shot they have to lower your standing. Shoot, you're not even good enough to have lunch with. Kids are brilliant at seeing this stuff. They don't need another issue to sort out thru their adulthood.

  I see it this way: Anything they do that undermines your children's opinion of you makes your job raising the children more difficult. Anything that gets in between you and your children raises the risk that you will have less control when you need it most. Any wedge they can put between you and you children will likley stay, and just get deeper.

  well everyone thanks to many of your comments and urgings i started my investigation to find the "truth" about the wtbts.

  today, i wrote two letters to the united nations and i finally ordered crisis of conscience.

  if any of you have any more suggestions or comments please reply.. .
