Facepalm What do you make of this cultish email I just got from my JW friend? What do I say to her?

a bit of background: she is a sweet sister who has hard a really hard life: mum killed in an accident when she was young while once-an-elder dad was off having an affair after having been released from jail after serving time as a pedophile; she spent months in hospital after the accident which killed her mother; brothers jailed as pedos, ex husband left her cold with their 6 month old son- she's had a tough life and is a really sweet lady.

she's intelligent, caring, forgiving and articulate.

far too good for jws.. she 'brought me into the truth' as they say, and as such we've always had a pretty good bond.. now, after the gossip/slander fiasco of another so-called friend running around telling everyone i'm an apostate and not to talk to me, i unfriended my jw friends from facebook with an explanation.

I wonder if you could say something like 'I have noticed a lot of mistakes or changes by the org over the years and I have also notice the scripture that says Jesus is the way the truth and the life, I also noticed that the bible says that God will give Knowledge or holyspirit to those asking and jesus said pretty much says the same thing. Also the bible says at 2tim3'17 that the book is all a person pretty much needs, so Im just trying to be the best christian I can be in Gods eyes and reading the Bible and prayer is helping to gain more knowlege. If you wish to come over and study with me then please come over, and the first thing you can do is explain to me why in John 6 starting in verse 47 that Jesus said serveral times that anyone eating of my flesh will have life 'anyone'.

Then when she comes over if she does you can slowly dismantle the JW religion one topic at a time.

Faith v. Works

recently, i wanted to make sure i was being accurate about wt doctrine, so i read a number of wt articles about salvation.. i was surprised to see how many of them say that everlasting life is a gift based on the ransom sacrifice, that it can't be earned.. if you talk to a jw they may even quote this teaching.. yet if you try to tell a jw that the bible says the salvation comes by grace through faith, they immediately tell you that faith without works is dead and that you need to take in knowledge, obey god's laws, identify and join jehovah's organization, and for the rest of your life go door to door with the good news of jehovah's kingdom.. why do you think jws can't see the contradiction in all of this?.

how can we get across to them that this doesn't make sense?.

I dont think you can, people arent used to getting something for nothing. I have come to understand that 'works' is about the fruitage of the spirit and practicing them. Infact Jesus's parables are mostly about practising these. There are scriptures that help bring this out paradisecafediscussion.org has some good stuff but i can not get on to site to share with this one at the moment. You may want to check out that forum.

Just a major flaw in thier thinking, no where in the bible does it say the 144k are Anointed and no where does it say the 144k are/will be Kings and Priest. And Like Ablebodie already posted in the KingJames bible in John chapter 6 starting in verse 47 Jesus says 'anyone' eating of my flesh, says 'anyone' 4 times. He was also teaching at Capernium and not talking to just the apostles.

So its clear the JW's got it wrong so they could have the leaders in a class all by themselves and try to control the rest of us.

Massive rise in the Columbia River...

we live three miles above the bonneville dam.

they have shut down many gates in order to provide more water for the salmon ladders.

this raises our banks and results in about a 4 foot drop in river levels below the dam.

Feeling Disfellowshipped

let me briefly explain my back-story: i grew up in a jw household and was technically a jw until 20 years old.

i stopped attending meetings in 1998 and told my parents i was done in 1999. i'm not sure where i saw my future when i was 19 but i know for a fact i didn't see myself as a "witness" then.

i hated the hypocrisy and the extreme gossip.

Meep5 are you still a believer in christ a christian?? If you are you might want to share with your mother a couple of scriptures first at the end of chapter 1 of philippians verses 15-19 Paul talks about whos preaching and why and that it doesnt matter, then show her Mark 9:38-42 were the apotsles are trying to get some one else not with them to stop doing miricales in Jesus name and what does Jesus say. Then Acts 10:34-35 showing that if a person fears God and does righteousness he is accepatable by god, no disticntion. Then you may want to ask her why then she thinks she and her religon is special?? You could follow this up with anyone of the scriptures about not judging people and those that do. Maybe you can soften your mother up a bit.

I'll Take Your Literature if You Take Mine

that is the proposition of some householders.

since we do not exchange our bible study aids for religious literature that disseminates error, how might we answer tactfully?

Yes the JW's will talk about a kingdom but not about the Good news that the apostles talked about, for they did not mention a kingdom they talked about Christ and the 'good news' was that Jesus is the messiah and he died for our sins was raised on the 3rd day showing that we can be raised on the last day. He also offers a gift of salvation. What better news is there and how is the news about a kingdom better? Its not and thats why the apostles didnt talk about it. Paul also mention that anyone speaking a different message be curst.

Pope or Faithful slave....whats the difference???

the pope as gods mouthpeice on earth says no contraception....faithful slave tells us jehovah thinks blood fractions are okay...of course they offically are not our leaders....on paper.

but really are they any different to the pope..

Really not much. The pope claims he's the vicar of Christ based on the scripture in Matt. Were Jesus tells Simon peter to feed my sheep. And of course the faithful and discreet slave is a parable about feeding the sheep that the gb have taken it upon themselves to declare were that slave. So yeah now the JWs have 8 little popes running around, isn't it special.

"False Prophets" part notably uncomfortable

bro handling the "false prophet" part was notably disturbed.

every time he spoke of previous "expectations" his body language was like "oh my god, can you believe i'm saying this?

tonight on the service meeting we discussed why jws are not false prophets.

of the ten minute part two were spent discussing that jws just had wrong expectations and only very minor changes over the years although nothing specific was mentioned.

the other eight focused on the core bible truths that have remained the same over the years.

2 Peter 2:1 "However, there also came to be false prophets among the people, as there will also be false teachers among YOU. These very ones will quietly bring in destructive sects and will disown even the owner that bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves."
