  Are Posters Deleted Forever?

  this is a moderated forum and unfortunately it's occassionally necessary to deactivate accounts of posters who purposefully and/or repeatedly violate the simple & sensible posting guidelines, there to ensure that the forum is a welcoming and friendly place to visit.

  most deletions are not permanent however.

  we appreciate that some are the results of misunderstandings or personal circumstances coloring people's behavior.

  this film is intense.

  as you've read by now, the film depicts the last 12 hours in jesus' life.

  everything you've heard about the graphic violence of this film is true.

  here's my thoughts on why jesus said: .

  "..it was said, 'you must not commit adultery.

  ' but i say to you that everyone who keeps on looking at a woman so as to have a passion for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

  Well, I guess a marriage like the one fader has would be cool, but that ain't gonna happen to me.

  So, the main reasons why I have not strayed:

  1. I don't want to deal with the repercussions, and the only way to avoid that is to avoid the act itself.

  2. Love and respect for my wife.

  3. Wanting the respect of others.

  Why is my number 2 not instead number 1? I guess it's that my love and respect for my wife don't run deep enough to keep me from wanting other women. So that's where not wanting all the hassles and fallout from the act come in. I'd rather simply avoid the complication it would bring to my life. That may not be the more admirable motivation, but it accomplishes the same thing - keeping me out of trouble.

  Looks like some areas are getting over 16 inches.

  I guess this is from the same low pressure system that affected the mid-Atlantic states a couple days ago.

  Accuweather is calling it a "Maritime Mauler"

  Feelings of an active JW

  i have been lurking on this board ever since the may 2002 broadcast of that dateline on the subject of child molestation.

  that show made me realize that the wt may not be speaking for god.

  well naturally i discovered the truth about the "truth" over the past 21 months.

  Some folks have suggested the slow fade - missing a few meetings here and there, etc, and seeing how that goes. It may work. On the other hand, it would be great if your wife were at least somewhat on board with what you are thinking because otherwise a die-hard jw spouse can make any exit strategy a pretty tough go.

  I know the feeling you are experiencing, but fortunately for me, my immediate family and I were pretty much on the same page. That makes a world of difference.

  Now, other family members seem used to the idea that I no longer attend, and I get little in the way of questioning about it. Perhaps by fading very slowly you can reduce the 'shock' if you will that a quick exit would likely produce, and maybe in time your family might actually grow a bit accustomed to your fade-out.

  last night, abc tv's 20/20 aired a one-hour segment entitled "lies, myths, and downright stupidity", hosted by john stossel.

  the intent of the program was to prove that certain commonly held beliefs (such as the myth that exposure to cold makes one catch a cold) are untrue.. listed as the number one myth was: "life is getting worse", a look at the common notion that the world has continually become worse as a place to live.

  evidence was presented that debunks this claim, such as:.

  Last night, ABC TV's 20/20 aired a one-hour segment entitled "Lies, Myths, and Downright Stupidity", hosted by John Stossel. The intent of the program was to prove that certain commonly held beliefs (such as the myth that exposure to cold makes one catch a cold) are untrue.

  Listed as the number one myth was: "Life Is Getting Worse", a look at the common notion that the world has continually become worse as a place to live. Evidence was presented that debunks this claim, such as:

  - Life spans have increased markedly druing the past century, especially in the US. On average, Americans live 30 years longer than they did just a century or so ago.

  - Pollution of rivers has decreased, largely due to use of and advancements in sewage treatment.

  - Pollution of the air has decreased over the past few decades.

  - Many killer diseases have been eradicated

  - Medical care has improved dramatically

  - Crime has been on the decrease generally since the mid-1980s

  The program brought to mind some of my experiences with the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses, in which I was active for 30 years. For example, on one occasion a few years back I was at a door giving a 'presentation' (Witness-speak for a short sermon) to a householder, and I was making the assertion, as Witnesses are taught, that the world was a bad place that was getting worse. The woman's reply was "yes, but there's much good in the world". I brushed aside her optimism and again claimed that the world was a bad place with insurmountable problems. Again, the woman countered with her belief that there was a lot of good in the world. We went back and forth on the topic for a few minutes, and I kept trying to prove her wrong but to no avail because, as I look back on it, she wasn't wrong. But as all of Jehovah's Witnesses are continually taught (conditioned could be a better word for it) to believe, I simply could not entertain her suggestion that things were not as bad as the Witnesses had portrayed them.

  The Witnesses aren't the only group that paint such a bleak picture of the world. Also, there are indeed some large problems that mankind still must grapple with. But the tendency to close one's mind off to the possibilty that things are actually getting better is a classic trait of religious doomsayers, and the simple fact is that the evidence may simply not support their claims after all.

  North American Cold Snap: How Cold Is It Where You Are?

  brrr!

  it's cold in toronto tonight/this a.m. - i believe it went as low as -26c (minus 26 celsius) .

  it was pretty freakin' cold.

  Right now, it's 5 degrees. Our overnight low Friday-Sat was 0. After some warming tomorrow, by mid-week we are supposed to get even colder weather in the eastern US.
