JW Personality used as an excuse....
by Anon_SA1 ini had a discussion with a current jw member of +- 30 years, we got chatting about how you can be sure your faith is right and what checks can be done.
i then suggested looking at ex members view points and literature.
her response was her "i am not someone who takes initiative to look online at stuff, i doesn't feel my personality needs me look at outside view points" in summary she was saying her personality type is not interested in looking at other views.

My fanatic-JW mom refuses to look up anything about anything I'm telling her about the falsehood of her "truth." She says everything is lies from apostates. Its like talking to a wall. And obviously it doesn't matter to her that the Bible tells us to research the prophets.
But honestly, I don't think she even would know how to do research and to look up stuff like the origins of quotes or the NGO membership of the UN. She's not very educated or have much experience in anything. I also think that it doesn't matter to her anyways. She would be lost and alone without her cult. It doesn't really matter to me, she can have her play-pretend-life. What makes me mad is when she goes on about how us worldly people will die, very soon, probably even like next week (heard that since the early '80s) since we reject Gods organization.

Am I the only one that think the guy (that drank the wine for the 1914 generation) seemed really drunk?
In the comments they said they were really nervous leading up to this so I'll bet he calmed his nerves with (a lot) of booze.

Why do I suddenly want to start reading JW literature and going to Kingdom Halls?
by yogosans14 inis good calling me back or am i just letting my emotions get the best of me?also i really want to be closer to my jw family.
btw i was never baptized and i consider myself a born again christian i go to a baptist church and wath televangelist and i have expirenced gods presence like never before but sometimes i get fearful and think "what if jws are right and i'm wrong" than i'm screwed!but if there wrong and i'm right it doesn't look to good for them.. i would prefer if nobody posted "god isn't real" type comments.
i truly believe he is real but i respect why some are atheists..

I think that reading through the Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures will open up your eyes and remove any and all doubts you're having.
The bible tells us that Jesus is our only mediator, not a small group of imperfect men with one false prophecy after another.

Danish crime series begins with apparent shunning of a young mother, returning home after two decades
by FatFreek 2005 ini began watching a well-reviewed crime series -- dicte -- in streaming netflix last night.
although it is compelling, the audio was in danish and was close-captioned into english.
i didn't complete the first episode because watching cc is too laborious for me.

I just saw the whole series on Netflix the other week. Someone in a Swedish ex-JW forum mentioned it (I'm a swede living in the US) and that it gave some negative comments about Jehovah's Witnesses. The combo crime + Scandinavian is irresistible to me so I had to watch it and I loved it. Very good. Even though I do understand a lot of Danish I was glad it had the English subtitles, some words and expressions are totally foreign to me.
And yes, the JWs didn't look too good in it. Dictes JW parents forced her to give up her baby she had when she was just a teenager. They hid her pregnancy and all for the elders just to hide the fact that their daughter was "immoral". But she could never forget her son and without telling too much she does get to meet him later in the series, as a grown young man.

Paranormal Witness
by Clambake indoes anyone watch this show?
it literally scares the hell of out of me..
does anyone here have an interest in the paranormal, demonology , ghosts or general weird stuff.

Never heard of that show but I'm terrified of paranormal things thanks to growing up with my JW mom who scared the crap out of us kids about the dangers of "the unknown". I still sleep with the bathroom light on when I'm all alone and I can't lay with my back towards the door, lol.
I do believe in the afterlife, I don't believe that you'll just die and everything disappears. But I still do not want contact with anyone on the other side. I believe it's mostly demons that you'll get a hold of when trying to communicate. When us humans die we go straight up to the heavens, I don't believe God let some of us "get stuck in between" forced to roam old empty buildings.
I see this show is on YouTube, I'm gonna check it out.

The Watchtower organization's crime against humanity
by TerryWalstrom inwho are the real heroes of society?.
are they not the people who are doctors and nurses and teachers and firemen and policemen and counselors and humanitarians?.
because of the watchtower organization, we are missing generations of those kinds of heroes who will not exist (but could have) because jehovah's witnesses destroyed them by convincing millions of it's members those professions are meaningless and unimportant for them to pursue.

StrongHaiku; that's my JW mom your describing! She claimed disability in the early 90's (in Sweden) just so she could focus 100% on this false religion. There was nothing wrong with her, just some backproblems. Back then it was also a pretty easy thing to do in Sweden.
But, she managed to go from door to door and walk miles after miles, she still do. When she complains about never having enough money, I always tell her to deliver the daily paper since she's running around at people's doors all day anyways. "Just put the papers in a little red wagon behind you and make some extra money..." But no, that's no good, lol.
Interestingly though, she manage to get a lot of freebies. A "sister" paid fully for her trip to Watchtower in Brooklyn a few years ago, just to get a travel companion. My mom of course thinks it was Jehovah that paid the ticket and hotel.

Has anyone heard any Watchtower PR spin or censorship advisory announcement at the kingdom hall regarding the child abuse story on NPR?
by Island Man ini remember some years ago when barbara did an expose of the child abuse issue on one of the networks, watchtower used the elders to inform the congregations not to view the program that was to be aired.
.
after this recent expose on npr, has there been any official watchtower release read as an announcement at the kingdom hall?.

Sorry, I fell asleep last night looking through the documentaries. I'm attaching the link to the YouTube clip, where the victim talks about the newspaper ad (around 4.02) and shows the ad.
Basically, what is says is that the victim is lying, that neither the victim or the accused were witnesses when it happened (which is not true), they lie about the timeline of the abuse, call the victim a liar and a bunch of other untruths. As I mentioned earlier, there were (several) major newspapers that refused to publish the ad.
The reason the WT had to place the ad is that they got massive attention after these investigative documentaries in Sweden. Everybody talked about it and witnesses got lots of problems due to it, especially in field service. So to save face they had to come up with these lies.
