when i was 19 i worked construction with my dad and he always played the bible tapes during the 45 min drive to and from work.
i didn't think much about it until a few years ago i listened to tapes of the bible from a company called "back to the bible" man, what a difference!.
the wtbs tapes used an extremely authoratative voice.... with almost pissed off over tones.
I thought they sucked.

Zen,
I believe Jesus existed/exists. Why such efforts to refute him? It takes faith. I don't neccessarily believe in the Jesus of organized religion, and what they have turned him into, but I believe a 'Christ' was sent here for our salvation, which was needed because of the original seperation, or misguided perceived seperation, from God. I don't understand how a person who practices Zen (which I assume you do by your name) a practice that has absolutely no historical or archeaological basis of fact behind the legitimacy of the practice, except for someone's "word" that they have been enlightened, would use "hard evidence" to refute the existence of a Christ. I believe there was an enlightened Buddha as well, but I don't really have any proof because I have'nt cared to do the research. To each his own I guess, I just wanted to contribute to the discussion.
Thanks,

.
i believe in life before death.
makes you think, doesn't it?.
Please excuse my driving......I'M DRUNK!
i've watched a little bit of mtv lately and it's been absolutely bugging the crap out of me as i watch these inane music videos: men can be physically unattractive but still talented musically and get recognition, not the same for women!
they have to be perfect looking in every way on top of being able to at least carry a tune.
i'm sick of watching beyonce writhe and christina strut around half naked.
Patsy Cline= Ugly
..It's weird...That's the only one I can think of at the moment.....Oh wait....Janis Joplin was not too hot either. Wait...Patti Smith too. Aretha Franklin is obese, but has a nice juicy ass.

just wondering if anyone is aware of a clamp down coming down on internet use with the dubs?
just talking to my parents tonight and there was some mention that "big brother" wt organization will be shutting down any dub web sites.
i guess i wasn't to popular as i said, "god created us with a brain to think amd it would be the most divine thing if we used that brain to think for ourself".
The Society has ALREADY strongly discouraged the witnesses from starting or participating in Jw web sites, whether they be obviously apostate, or "friendly" to the cause. They keep doing it though. It was discussed recently in a Kingdom Ministry. I'll try to dig it up to quote from. It's out of their control at this point. I really wish the GB would outright try to ban all internet use by the witnesses, in a huge gamble to to see how loyal the rank and file is. I wonder if the GB is disillusioned enough to really believe the rank and file would actually go along with it. If the GB really think they can fully control the lives of their 6 million adherents, this would be an interesting test. What would make it even more fun would be if they (GB) made it a disfellowshipping offense to get on the internet. That would be great to see. Although realistically this is pure fantasy fluff. On one hand they think whatever they say will be heeded by the r and f, but they know they can't push it too far so they comprimise.. I thought we were'nt supposed to "comprimise". If they really have control, what would they be afraid of. GO FOR IT.

if you had the power to print millions of watchtowers & awakes and you could see to it that the articles that you wrote got to all the readers, give a sampling of what the articles highlighting "spiritual food" would say.
You people are freakin' hilarious....This is the funniest thread I have ever read.

Self Mutilation....Is it for Christians?
1) In the continent of Africa, Jehovah's Witnesses have enjoyed grand spiritual blessings in the early part of this century. As evidence of Jehovah's blessing is the great increase of Bible studies being conducted, and the many "Flocking to Jehovah's table". How has this increase become possible? It is mainly due to the self sacrificing efforts of those responsible for taking the lead among us; The Elders in the local congregations, and most importantly the Faithful and Discreet Slave Class, of whom the Master upon arriving has found them to be worthy of carrying His Grand message of hope for mankind's future.-Matt 23:45.
2) Upon arriving in Africa one Christian pioneer sister named Gretchen (not her real name) noted "The natives here were very dirty when we arrived, living in grass huts, eating bugs and engaging in various forms of spiritism. Through Jehovah's Holy Spirit, we have been able to show them through God's Word, that these practices are not endorsed by our Superlative Creator. Indeed Jehovah, the Great Repurchaser, has blessed our efforts in the ministry. Thank you Jehovah, and blessed be your Faithful and Discreet Slave Class, who are indeed giving us our food at the proper time".-Matt 23:45
3) Ministering in Africa has not been without it's pitfalls. Not everyone has been disposed to spiritual truths. For instance there continues to be wide spread demonic rituals being conducted in certain villiages. The practice of "self mutilation", defined by Websters Dictionary as; "the mutilation of the self." is, sadly, still quite common. Our dear brothers and sisters have witnessed such depolorable things such as individuals poking themselves with pins, burning themselves with cigarette butts, administering papercuts with precious copies of the Watchtower and Awake magazines, and unfortuneately, chopping off their penises with a dull axe, or whatever is available.
Is it Wise?
4) It is quite obvious to discern that when these natives chop off their penises, the appendages seem to flop around on the ground, similar to a fish flopping around on a boat after just being removed from the water- Matt 23:45.
5) As Christians today, do you feel it would be wise to engage in such a form of self mutilation? True in some countries where some self mutilation is required by law, a Christian would want to weigh the pros and cons of pursuing such a course, and prayerfully meditate on the proper course to take, and it would be a matter of the individuals conscience. But where self mutilation is not compulsory, it WOULD NOT be a conscience matter, and the individual that persisted in such a sinful course would be subject to disfellowshipping.-Matt 23:45
6) Admittedly, God's Word does not specifically state that it is disadvantageous to chop off ones sexual member. We have Bible principles to guide us. Surely, a penis flopping around like a "fish outta water" is not what our Great Master was referring to when he exhorted His first century followers to become "Fishers of Men".-Matt 23:45
7) Miguel, a young Christian minister of Jehovah in Brazil noted; "When I first heard about this self mutilation thing, I thought it would be kind cool to engage in this practice, but after not being able to reattatch it, I realized I may have made a mistake. Thanks to Jehovah, with direction provided through His organization, I was able to discern that this was a practice I would not continue to engage in, even if I could". What wise reasoning. We can see then through this example from Miguel, and the many others we can point to, that a loyal servant of Jehovah, would endeavor to avoid this snare of sexual self mutilation. Unless you live in an area where it is required of you. Then it would be up to your conscience.-Matt 23:45.
Next Week: "Avoid the snare of Reading".
i came across a post here a day or two ago where the poster mentioned they were the spouse of so and so.
so in the interest of board harmonics, (really i'm just a curious / nosy sob) ...... 1. who here is married / partnered with / related to other posters here ?
and what are your usernames / aliases?.
Yes....
I've been dating Sword of Jah.
again, playing devils' advocate here.
i brought up to a staunch witness relative some reasons the annointed remnant, or however she wishes to regard them, are not the faithful and discreet slave mentioned in matthew.
i brought up the fact that practically all the core doctrines that the witnesses were teaching in 1919 when the "master arrived and chose the watchtower as his instrument" would be considered as apostasy today, by the witnesses.

I also brought out the false Watchtower chronology, and how NOBODY in the scientifc community of any legitimacy supports the Society on this. I also showed how the Watchtower has flip-flopped so many times as regards the "slave", and who they are. I also mentioned that Bible scholars generally agree that Jesus was merely relating a parable when speaking of this slave, not referring to the so called "annointed remnant" as represented by the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses. All this, and what do I get back in response?
1) As to changes in doctrine since the slave was appointed in 1919..---"The light keeps getting brighter".
2) As to false chronology...----"I'll trust Jehovah's organization over worldly scientists any day".
3) As to doctrinal flip flops (available at Dollar General Store for only $1.99 a pair) ----"Light getting brighter".
4) As to it being merely a parable and NOT a prophecy...----"The Bible Scholars who say that don't have Jehovahs' spirit, so they are wrong".
5) As to why Jesus decided on the Watchtower society to dispense all this food and take care of His belongings instead of any other churches....---"The Society at that time may have had to "adjust" their thinking on matters later on, but Jesus saw their hearts and chose them because they (witnesses) were the 'closest' to the truth at that time, and we know Jesus chose them because no other religion is preaching the good news of the kingdom today except for Jehovah's Witnesses".
How could I be so silly not to see such sound reasoning, and to exhibit such ridiculous and unfounded doubts in Jehovah's organization. Please pray for me.
