i'm moving this weekend and the computer i use belongs to my sister.
since i will no longer be living with her i won't have daily access to a computer.

For those who raised children "in the truth"

i don't even know where to begin to broach this subject with my daughters (should they ever speak to me again.
they are not witnesses, and were never baptized, they are angry at me for something else).... .

How do you even begin to apologize for trying to turn them into good little dubs?
Although I was hardly the poster girl for Witness Mother of the Month, I still enforced many Witness type rules on them, to their detriment.
Has anyone here ever spoken with their children and apologized for ....I don't even know how to say this..I guess for kind of damaging their childhoods (and possibly their psyches) by raising them as Witness children???
I'm far from being able to apologize as my daughters don't speak to me. But I'm feeling horrible about what I did to them. Of course, it was all done with the best of intentions, fearing, as I did, for their everlasting lives....I wanted them to live forever in paradise. I don't know what I believe as far as that goes anymore, but I do know I am so sorry for the stupid rules I enforced just because all the other dubs said I had to (although I have to admit I ignored a lot of them too, but children never see it that way, do they?)Anyone?

newbie and not understanding all of the aspects of this site
by Maggie ini have read alot on this site for a while and just have been absorbing it as i make my way.. one thing i noticed was alot said about abuse of children... i experienced the reverse...false stories told..believed by elders because of hidden agenda and 20+ years as special pioneers ..etc.
as of no count and belief in a new publisher destroyed our lives and children's lives.
the horror never stops ...some of our family is disassociated...some disfellowshipped...some inactive...some active..some on a fence...mostly because of one or two elders and the misapplication of their power and lack of love to our family.

First, all my sincere concern as well as heartfelt affection to you. I feel for you. While I can't possibly know what it is like to be you and in your particular circumstances, I do know a lot about clinical depression, alcohol use, feeling as though there is no purpose to life. I heartily echo the sound sentiments of others...please see your doctor. Please don't be afraid to take antidepressant medication. You need not let anyone know you are taking it for yes, there is still (sadly) a stigma attached to taking psychopharmceuticals. Please DO email me at [email protected]. I don't know what assistance I can offer, but I am willing to do whatever I can.

PS Your physician will know (or should know) which antidepressant medication is right for you. Some are more sedating than others, some more activating...some are actually also useful for anxiety (Effexor is, as far as I know, the only antidepressant currently approved by the FDA for treatment of generalized anxiety disorder). Side effects differ from one drug to the next...some will put on weight, some will cause weight loss, some have undesirable sexual side effects, so please know what you will or will not accept as side effects before you go on any medication. webmd.com is a great source of (mostly) accurate information.

You know, I never thought of it that way, but this is certainly true. It was an act of tremendous courage on Simon's part to create this board. It is an act of love to maintain and moderate this board (not to mention the resources of time, emotion and money he's selflessly given).
I don't know Simon at all, really, we don't seem to post on the same threads. But that doesn't matter; what he has done is simply amazing, when one thinks about it. I mentioned to Tim, my partner, that this was the best "board" I've ever encountered on the Internet in that every subject is permitted, along with an astonishing freedom of speech and expression in most cases. No place else on the 'net have I ever seen a board with such diversity of subjects permitted. We are permitted to post about most anything here, not just our experiences as a Witness. Sex, fashion, politics, family, cooking, religion, science, history...whatever. Truly amazing.
But I digress. I really want to let Simon how much I appreciate his courage, initiative, ingenuity, perserverance, time,patience and love. It takes a lot of love for unseen others to devote so much time to a forum which, while possilby troublesome at times, has proven to be such a haven for persons desperately looking for information, help, friendship, answers.

i'm sure we will all answer no, but for the fun of it, what would have to happen for you to return to the kingdom hall,.
and what would the elders/judicial committee say to you if you wanted to go back.. do you think even if you returned with a new attitude, that you would always be "marked" by the congregation.. should get some interesting answers !!!!!!!!!

There would have to be a Watchtower which had, on the cover, in big black letters, "WE'RE SORRY", and then devote the entire periodical to apologizing for the hurt and pain they've caused untold millions over the years.
That's never going to happen. For me to go back, I would have to be convinced that my participation in that religion (meaning proseletyzing) would not lead to me being blood guilty, or guilty of inviting others to participate in a religion no longer approved by God. (At this point, I do not believe Jehovah approves of the WTS; I don't know much about Bible prophecy and never have but "evil slave" comes to mind). Currently, I feel association with the Witnesses would not only be wrong, but evil. I could never go from door to door promoting the WTS when it has commited such heinous crimes against innocent persons. "They" may have the "truth" (or some of the truth, or a bit of the truth), but their actions are far from faultless. I could never be a part of that.
