The "stop crying" thing was pretty common.
If you keep that up I will stomp you into a mud-hole. (usually interchangeable with one above)
I NEVER talked to my parents like that. (trump card when child was winning the argument or had a good point)
You seem to think the world owes you a living.
Quit feeling sorry for yourself and get your chores done. (usually after punishment had been administered)
If you had the brains god gave a piss-ant you might be able to do something. (ah yes the housework needed done)
You think you are so smart, lets see how you do out in the real world, you wouldn't last a week.
You think you are so abused! (usually said after the tears didn?t stop fast enough)
Jehovah help me and bring Armageddon now. (followed by statements that the child wouldn't survive and why)
I wish you kids had never been born. (usually said in the middle of hysterics or rampage)
But, to end on a lighter note sometimes one would backfire.
Mom: You are all a bunch of lazy, good-for-nothing pups.
Younger Brother: Well, you would know. (only said on one occasion; the beating was brutal and instantaneous)
That one still brings a chuckle now and then, when we brothers get together.

The Possible Outcome of court cases
by outoftheorg insince reading the post about the molestation trials in texas, i have been pondering on the possible outcome of these cases.
it is clear that the wbts relies on the firewalls they have set up between the congregations and elders and the corporations.
it seems that the ones in jeopardy, are the congregations and especially the elders.

IMHO it would depend on the level of success that these civil actions.
If low to moderate levels then it would feed into the local rank and file persecution complex while giving the WT$ a propaganda coup that they would trumpet about for months. Nothing like living well i and being able to decry injustice to others to make one look righteous, even if the sanctimonious leaders abandoned them to face their fate on their own while insulating themselves from any repercussions. (See a pattern here?)
If the rate is high enough that state legislatures step in to remove some of the insulation provided to the upper echelon of the WT$ it might produce significant changes (read more corporations to hide behind) to the methodology of how edicts are handed down to the rank and file.
In either case it will be hard on the local BoE [mentally, physically, emotionally & possibly financial]. The article suggested that a pattern of behavior that both made the elders vulnerable & allowed the accused to act freely again. It may even be the case of a local BoE being saddled with the actions of former elders who were in charge at the time.
A drop in the population of elders and growing reluctance of others to step in a position where they might have to try and defend the decisions of others may also bring about a change in who & how elders are instated.
But, from past experiences of elders abusing their position litigation may be more than warranted in these cases. The problem is getting the judicial system to recognize the degree of control exercised by the GB and/or corporate headquarters while the WT$ lawyers put on a smoke and mirror act to obscure this fact.
[[Why should the records of proceedings be admitted in the court record, they are private, as private as the confession is to a priest. Surely your honor what reasonable person would allow themselves to be silenced by uneducated, untrained, and un-ordained men we put in position to maintain the congregation err property, further what normal person would not think for themselves? This is just an attempt to make a raid on what appear to be deep pockets of a upstanding religion.]]
The actual truth is I don?t really know what will happen. But observation shows that the WT$ has had its way for so long it arrogantly expects to not have to be responsible for what is said or done in its name.

The grain, the chaff and the straw
by A Paduan inin it's efforts to maintain literal understandings, does the jw religion not determine the difference in a story between the grain, the chaff and straw?
straw is important indeed - can grain grow without the stalk?
one can be a user of straw - make earthly wares, hard bricks, even a tower.

To start things off lightly; the word is similar to the bread of life
in the following ways.
Early on it is unleavened; this means that it is hard to partake and very little
has been added to it, and it is used to remind some of the journey taken by others
before them.
If left to sit longer it rises from exposure to levening agents in the environment; this
could mean that it becomes easier on the palette but has been contaminated by outside
influences, this could be both good or bad depending on what one wanted.
If left out too long before baking it rises to its full mass then eventually starts to grow
things not intended by the baker; this means that while it has some unexpected uses (i.e. rudimentary
antibiotics) it is very unpalatable and most end up turning away from it.
Just my amature opinion

Know what you mean, also grew up in that time frame.
"I wish Jehovah would bring Armagedon now because I KNOW I would survive."
Usually screamed by a mother after she just got through slapping/kicking the crap out of the offending kid.

The WTBS Inc. and ?.the iceberg

Machislopp,
Thanks for the hard work compiling these items.
I find it an appropriate analogy when you used the iceberg. Most of the mass of an iceberg is underwater and hidden from view. Such an example implies that the ?glittering white pinnacles? of truth are counterbalanced by the ?dark falsehoods? hidden from view.
Keep up the good work.

secular history gives much evidence to show that the survivors of noah?s flood were real historical figures, whose names were indelibly carved on much of the ancient world ?

>>I thought they considered the plague die-off in Europe in the 14th c a bottleneck?
If memory serves, the event mentioned was in relation to a certain gentic group of people having a resistance to the AIDS virus. One of the possibilities suggested was a geographic localized bottleneck in Europe associated with the survivors of the plague (black death) episodes. Decendants of this group have a statistically higher resistance to HIV.

Two possibilities come to mind:
- The scriptures not to swear an oath (Jas.5:12, Matt.5:33-37) taken to the extreme. [i.e. but let your yes mean yes and your no mean no].
- Or simply a reminder that another year has passed and the imminent destruction of 99.9% of mankind has not happened. (But it will soon, it is imminent, time is short, this 20th century will ?? oops that was last century.)

Hidden Images; last time.
by Hunyadi inthanks again to all those who responded with an open mind to my postings regarding hidden images in the wt publications, but wow, i have heard from some pretty forceful personalities who are apparently still pissed off about getting duped by the wtbts.
so many flames, so many flamers .
calm down, get some pot, get some beer, get some therapy, but please get over it and yourselves.

Hunyadi,
With all due respect intended I would like to comment on a few things stated in this thread.
I have met, talked to, and hoisted a few drinks with Dave (seven006). I have even had a chance to see some samples of his artwork. Please let me state for the record that he is out and has no love for the Borg. He calls it like he sees it and doesn't waste time candy coating his opinion. Dave was being honest on the subject you asked for opinions about. While what was said was blunt I doubt that it was a personal attack directed toward you.
My suggestion would be to relax, listen to the feedback then decide if the opinions you asked for have merit.
If you ever get up to Oregon let me know and we might have to hoist a few together.
Best regards,
Goshawk
