  there was a scripture about a rod.......it seemed to be in every other watchtower.....it was an excuse to beat children.

  I agree I think the family origin has the most influence on types of punishment. The spare the rod teaching simply removed one check or balance regarding acceptable behavior in the social group.

  When we got spanked with a leather strap we usually got what we deserved.

  Grabbing a young kid by the hair and shaking them by their hair; screaming at a child inches from their face, slapping and kicking at the child until physically tired, while the child is curled up in the fetal position. (Reason for the kicking and slapping fit was the child covered its ears because the screaming hurt the ears.)

  Hoping for Armageddon to come quickly so that kind of s#*t would end.

  Out of line? Sure. WT Doctrine induced? No, but it didn’t help protect either.

  That kind of behavior is generally learned in the formative years.

  I just figured out an AWSOME scam!

  1. Setup a website that will provide LOTTO numbers for anyone who agrees to give me 10% of any winnings.
  2. Generate every possible number combination and start sending them out to people.
  3. Inevitably one of the people will win and will give me the money!

  Elsewhere you're so cute when you get that trusting look on your face.

  If you truly think that after they buy the ticket and win they will let you know that they won; (Or would they need to be ingrained with a fear that you will find out by psychic means when they win.) I have got a true story for you about a nekkid lady and a talking snake.

  Did You Ever "Learn" Anything Because You Went To The Meetings?

  years ago, you could attend a meeting and hear a well researched talk or give an answer from the watchtower that had some "meat" on it.

  i remember in the 70s when witnesses used to look forward to ruminating on what might be a "new point" or a veiled possible new understanding of a doctrinal view.. these days, the only thing you could learn from a meeting is that brother so-and-so got deleted or "is no longer a witness".. what a bore!.

  i have to enter a room full of em!.

  my kids have gone with my mother to a congregation party.

  apparently there will be line dancing, barn dancing, scottish dancing, you know the normal way they party hard..... anyway they wanted to go, for the food i think, so i wasn't going to stop them.. but i have to enter that room tonight to collect them.. pray for me.... paul.
