much of what we do on a daily basis is routine and of no particular, earth-shaking importance.
however, after reviewing letters of family going back to wwii, it is fascinating to read what dad was doing on board the aircraft carrier in the pacific on any old day, what mom was cooking on her ever-steaming range, how i was dealing with the roller coaster of emotion at bethel [mom saved all my letters], how nana wrote that she would not study with the witnesses [per my request] but 'here are some mittens i knitted for you when you canvass new york with your magazines.

How did you handle facing the reality of death?
by song19 infor those raised or who got the truth at a young age, how have you been able to handle the reality that you are in fact, eventually, going to die in this system?.
for me, this was a real hard reality check.
as a witness, my entire life i was convinced that i would see armageddon, that i wouldnt grow old and die.

Doesn't leaving-behind-their-belief-system about death "go" with leaving the borg??? Hanging on to jw beliefs could mean one has not really "left" the borg --- they left in body only. Their spirit and soul remain behind in the borg --- stuck --- blocked.
Leaving/changing beliefs has enabled me to purge the fears that were instilled in me since birth. All the fear and guilt are merely part and parcel of the jw brainwash. Some people seem to need to hang on to antiquated beliefs. Just because it is all we knew --- does not mean it is all there is.
Me, I like to believe what I see --- more than believe what some elders tell me I "should" believe. Their beliefs are not supported by reality.
I have had experiences that proved beyond doubt to me --- that the dubs were "off" on the death story, too.

My Older Witness Mom Admits to me - "It's a Man's Organization "
by flipper ini was having a normal conversation with my witness mom 81 years old ( a witness for 57 years ) and the subject came up about my 56 year old sister who recently suffered a stroke in february .
my sister suffered for years with post-traumatic stress syndrome from an extremely abusive jw husband throughout the 1980's.
she was beaten, raped forcibly by him, and emotionally abused by his drug induced screaming rants, and to top that off; cheated on her constantly- even with sisters in the congregation.

" I just want you to know if you go to the elders about this abuse by your husband , they will downplay it, and they won't believe you. It is a man's organization ; and they don't take kindly to sisters ratting their abusive husbands out. "
Sheesh, this conversation really sounds like your mom is opening her eyes! It's great she is talking about these events. Just keep on being a good listener, Mr. Flipper! You're doin' great. She is really confiding in you now!
My mom continued saying she sat in on the meeting my sister had with the elders, and was there when the elders questioned her grandchildren ( my sisters kids) about events that happened in their home regarding their father. And my mom said, " I was sickened by the questions the elders asked my grandchildren ! They were totally inappropriate questions to be asking a 14 year old or 12 year old ! "
Indeed it is not appropriate for the elders to be interrogating the grandchildren. Just shows how untrained and unprofessional and presumptuous the elders are --- to think they have authority to be counselling families/couples.

When a lower court rules against the dubs, I have heard elders say that Jebooger wants the case to get pushed into the Supreme Court, where surely Jebogger will turn things around in the dubbies' favor.
Glad I gave up that mindset.

Apparently I ruined my mom's life.
by reneeisorym inin the course of a conversation (it started with the fact that the convention is in town and i work near the site and i was stressing because my family was across the street) i asked my mom if she was upset because i made her choose between me and her family.
she couldn't answer.
after silence she said, "i always said i would die for you so i guess we'll see.

Hi again Dan,
Hugs to you. I'm sorry to hear you are so down on yourself about finding --- or not finding --- the perfect babe. When I was looking for my purrfect guy, I sat down and made a list of all the requirements I would like in a guy I could fall for. For me, because I love to dance, the guy had to love to dance (it's a soul thing with me). Then I went to dance clubs, took lessons, and forgot all about "looking" because I was learning about something I was passionate about --- dancing. Then along comes Mr. Estee --- who also happened to love to dance. As we got to know each other, we found to our delight that we had a lot in common. We both love to garden. We both love to go for walks. We both had a weird religious history (his ex was assimilated by a cult, whereas I just left the jws). You know, things like that. We had the same kind of values, such as we were both spiritually-minded, but not necessarily religious --- and we hit it off. We dated for three years, then a year and a half ago we moved in together. By the way, it turns out that Mr. Estee also had a checklist of requirements he desired in his purrfect lady.
So I suggest it is not too late for you to find out who Dan is, then get involved in clubs that you find interesting and that help you develop your already-interesting self. You just might accidentally discover there are lovely ladies out there with the same interests and values, etc. Finding a lady will not be a traumatic experience, but rather finding a lovely lady will be a natural occurrence of discovery. In fact, she may feel that she has found you! You will be just right for each other. Take your time, go slow --- 'cuz ladies get scared off easily if you come off like you are desperate. Just be your cool (or hot) Dan self. Remember you fully deserve to love someone who completely loves you back.
