777 vs. 666
by Leolaia ini've heard 777 or 7777 used as a godly number in christian televangelist hotline numbers, 777music.com is a christian music online store, and the number is supposed to represent an ideally perfect number representing god and his creation.
but it strikes me as a pallid ripoff of 666, and nothing in the bible seems to produce a higher order number above 70 (7 x 10) with 7.
144,000 is of course based on 12 and 10. and contrary to it being such a godly number, it seems to have been the subject to a book on gematria and the kabbalah by satan incarnate himself, aleister crowley.

Cross vs. Stake: Does it REALLY friggin' matter?
by Funchback inwhen did the wts become so infatuated with the cross vs. stake theory?
did they come up with this theory in order to say, "see?
we teach the truth!

This subject is a tired one.....The watchtower makes the "stake" claim because the cross is central to just about all the rest of Christianity, they must dispell this somehow to make them appear to have the "right" religion. end of topic

Did Jesus pray to himself ?
by hooberus inwhile trinitarians believe that the father, son, and the holy spirit, are god, they also believe that they are distinct persons within the one god.
thus they are able to speak to one another.
so jesus (one person) speaking to the father (another person) in prayer is not a problem.

Whats happening here is you all are are speaking as if The Father, the Son & the Holy Spirit talk TO each other in a linear fashion. Dont think of it as in point A. to point B. to point C......think of it as AROUND & THROUGH & IN & OUT....UP & DOWN. Only Jesus Christ could & can make a mortal man/woman see the prize ie: salvation. Humans can only relate to the tangibles, sad but true. The first Christians had the SOLID truth. I dont have close family ties to the tangible Christ but through body numbing prayer & faith Ive found MY personal truth.

And not to mention poor job performance. I work with 4 JWs & we do three 12hr days a week. We start at 5 am & these people are basically just there in body only. I always hear about how late they got home from their meetings & watch them walk around like zombies. They dont do squat all day long but a couple of them find time to break out the yellow highlighter pens & mark up their little magazines for their next meeting or whatever, kinda funny.

Find a NONDENOMINATIONAL church with a preacher who only talks of the bible, & who will not embelish on the word.

John 1:1 for nonbelievers.....
by logansrun ini've often felt that the most objective person in a situation is the one who has no stake in the outcome.
this holds true to religious issues as well.
we all know freddie franz translated john 1:1 as "the word was [a] god" and the rest of the christian world flew through the roof.

We could also look at John 3:16 which talks of Gods only begotten son. It doesnt say created son or made up son. I mean to say that, like BEGETS like, common sense tell us this. Could I beget anything less than an imperfect human being? Say an earthworm? NO! of course not. God can only beget God.
my 2 cents, MJ

Let Us Create A True Religion...
by Latin assassin from Manhattan inthe wts feels that they are the true religion because they place tons of literature based on their own interpretations and because they show true christian love for one another.
this forum is testimony to the validity of their cause so i won't bother to repeat the obvious.
but if a true religion were to exist, i belive it shoud be based on the following:

Its impossible to have a "true religion" in 2003. The primitave church had close ties to THE man Jesus. We dont dont have the same kind of connection as the early Christians did & until Jesus "returns" we will continue plodding along with a dilluted sense of what "true religion" really is. Until then, I think its a complete matter of what we as individuals choose to do in regards to our own spritual well being.
I was raised as a catholic & I was conditioned to think a certain way. It wasnt until I was in my late 20s, early 30s that I began to explore the Bible on my own & came to understand some things. I have to tell you, that was the most wonderful feeling, being free from a man made organization. As far as teaching others, its futile to attempt any kind of bible thumping, it just turns people off. The key is to lead by example, whether it be with your children or friends & other family. If someone wonders why youre so "at peace" or "quietly confidant" you can tell them why & if they want to know more you can say: Well....this is what I think....

Hello Mike, I came to this forum for exactly the same reasons you did. Im a non denom. Christian.
I have a strong desire to help these people. I work with 4 JWs who found out my interest in God & have not let up on me ever since. Ive pointed out several things to these folks regarding the cross thing & the John 1:1 thing among others & have gotten some interesting reactions.
Try asking them why every other English translation of John 1:1 exept the NWT states that "The Word was God", then theyll say something about original greek & hebrew. Then you can tell them that many Greek scholars or experts agree that the NWT contains "a gross mistranslation of John 1:1" or "its impossible to translate John 1:1 in this way"
Theyve said things like: "hmmm....interesting." or "Ill have to see that in context" or "I never looked at it that way" My approach is never to direct anything at thier religion, I always direct it at my own former religion...catholicism. You can rip catholics all day long & the JW will admire you for it but you must always, without them knowing, play up the very close similarities in both groups. Say things like: "Ya know that the catholics think theyre the only ones who will live forever(dont say: go to heaven), Then say "I cant believe that, I believe the bible was written to all people." What happens is they will agree with you, then unknowingly they begin to see the parallels between both religions. I cant say things will work for you but I seem to be making at least a little progress.
Just some thoughts, MJ

Trinitarians, Did Jesus reveal himself as God?
by ClassAvenger ini'm a person that believes in the trinity, but i have a question.
i know jesus didn't reveal to all the people to whom he preached as god himself, and it was not something that he directly taught (or at least i think he didn't), but i know from what i've read that the disciples knew and taught it.
my question is, did jesus tell them, or did they have this revealed when they were anointed by the holy spirit?

The disciples were shown Christs true diety through His actions ie: miracles, healing, his own ressurection. It was nesessary because just like in our times, mere mortals had difficulty putting faith into the intangibles.
