to all my very patient friends out there thank for your support here.
over many threads i have argued and posted on what various indivdual versus in the bible say.
to put it all together i decided to create it's own topic thread so it could be referred back to in the future.
To put it briefly: I'd say that trying to enrol the Bible as a whole into a defense of gay rights is desperate -- some Bible texts are clearly homophobic, just as some Bible texts are mysoginist, racist or ;antisemitic. Putting the different texts into perspective and appreciating their nuances is much more liberating in the long run.
Very true, Narkissos.
I have had to do some research very recently because my parents decided to finally corner me on the whole "gay thing". Since they are active JW's I have to battle them on their turf so to speak. They won't listen to "doctors" or "mental professionals" so I have to use the tool they will listen to.
EF, what was the outcome with your parents?

This isn't the story of tij, he posted that when he first arrived on this site. You should go back and read it before you start making judgements. This post is about his letter to the GB. An adulterous elder is not automatically dfed, which you should know having been an elder. Four years ago the Presiding Overseer of the congregation I was in had a brief affair with the Service Overseer's pioneer wife and neither of them were dfed, but reproved.
tij's downfall was possibly because he was a popular, slightly maverick elder (yes, I know him), hence the quick chop.
it really gets on my nerves.. jw women used to be always focused, as their number one thing, on appearance.
they could be crap at the rest of the jw stuff, but if they turned up at the meeting dressed nice, thin, long hair, looking nice, all was forgiven.
of course it was because of the misogyny (sp?
There is a lot of focus on appearance I agree, but
It seems that the JW ideal is a slim, figureless girl with long hair, who never asks questions.
if that's the ideal they have a long way to go because there were a lot of full figured opinionated women in the KHs round here. Fortunately, that's how I like them, big and sassy.
i will be very brief on my introduction as i need to get straight to the point.
i was raised in the 'truth' from birth.
i got baptized at 16 (elder dad hassled me) and managed to do the 'slow fade' at 18 (it helped that i moved 50 miles away from home).
Hi Muse
I'm sorry your dad's unwell and hope the op is successful. It's unlikely that the HLC will be there as they should have addressed any questions with the surgeon/anaesthetist before hand, but only if your father felt that necessary. My experience of the HLC has been that they are unobstructive, pleasant men who are well intended but hopefully you'll be saved from the irritation of their presence.
My father died when he was 60, the day after an operation in which he lost a significant amount of blood, and while the medics never explicitly said that the loss of blood triggered his heart attack, some of our non JW family felt that it must have. My opinion is that it was his choice and his belief and he knew the consequences and now that I'm no longer a JW I would still respect his wishes.

theres an interesting thread here:
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/14/92000/1.ashx and i thought i'd open up the discussion again in the guise of "coming-out" to jwd.
it's taken me about 5 hours to get the language and style of this post right.
Like you I'm from a solid JW dynasty but I didn't come out until I was 30, and while I don't regret staying in that long, good on you for realising you need out now. Can't say I envy your return to living with your parents, hiding your orientation while doing the fade wont be easy.
Good luck, and feel free to PM me.
awsome movie!
a definate go see.
in the tradition of the batman series of movies, batman was played by yet another actor - christian bale.
I was pretty disappointed with it.
despite the purlple ones' religious persuasion, at this time, whats your favorite song and / or album?
i'll start.
the album purple rain is my favourite, one of my favourite songs, however is " i could never take the place of your man "
I wonder if it smudged the ink on the Watchtower?
i have been reading over the forum today and something hit me.
because i don't look up everyone's histories, there are people i assumed were either male or female--partly based on their avatar and partly based on the type of comments they make.
well guess what folks--i was shocked to find out i was wrong about a few people.. does anyone else out there decide that certain posters are male or female, and then find out they're wrong?
Until tonight I thought 144001 was a woman. Apparently she's a man.

I was part of a Prince Trinity. We ate, slept and breathed the god, incorporated his lyrics into our TMS talks and almost combusted when we finally saw him live. Our whole lives were one 'fourth day of November.'
Since Prince I've had only two other significant crushes, Belle & Sebastian and then Rufus Wainwright.
