Wow, calyndra!! That's a lot of critters! and I'm guessing there's at least one Harry Potter fan in your house :)

We have a Malamutt and two silver tabbys.. I love my hairy kids, but sometimes they drive me nuts! The cats are elderly and I clean up cat barf allll the time, ugh.. and we are currently without a fenced yard so I walk simon (the malamutt) and somedays I get really tired of trying to convince him to poo :)

Not sure what I'd do without any of them, though, and my cats were there for me when no human was, so I guess a little barf isn't so bad.

Wanting something???

have you ever had this feeling that your body wants something, but you can't figure out what it is?

i mean like is food, a vitamin, a drink, something?

i have this feeling a lot.

When I feel that way I'm usually dehydrated and don't know it. I never drink enough water.. don't really care for it much, but when I feel that undefined craving I know I need to drink a couple glasses of water (even though it doesn't sound good) When I start sloshing I know I've had enough and the cravings go away (usually..sometimes I need a pickle!)

oil industry behemoth exxon mobil corp. said thursday its third-quarter earnings rose to $10.49 billion, the second-largest quarterly profit ever recorded by a publicly traded u.s. company.. the report comes as high crude prices this year have fueled record profits in the oil industry, triggering an outcry from consumers who were being asked to pay about $3 a gallon for gasoline in early august.. the largest quarterly profit ever was exxon mobil's $10.71 billion profit in the fourth quarter of 2005.. they may beat that next quarter, said howard silverblatt standard & poor's senior index analyst.

Maybe we should use some of that oil we get out of AK instead of selling it all... makes all kinds of sense, we ship our oil out and then ship in oil from elsewhere for our own use, but I'm sure that doesn't affect the cost of gas ;)

Just how efficient is the US Government?

so i changed my address... online and i thought, wow, that was easy.

i also paid a buck to register to vote.

both were over 3 months ago.. i go to vote today in early voting but to no avail.

Try dealing with VA.. my hubby is a disabled vet, you would not believe the stupidity involved in getting anything accomplished. Most of the individuals we've dealt with have been great, just way over burdened. (except the Dr's, most of them are pricks) It's taken us 5 years of paper work and Dr's visits to get his rating up to 80%.(from 40%) and it's going to take at least that long to get the last 20% but I refuse to give up (way too stuborn) They made him sick, they owe him every penny and then some.

I better stop there or I'll go on for hours :)

My journey so far, thoughts?

i've been on here nearly 5-6 years (as you can see by my profile) but hardly ever post.

for years i was satisfied with reading your stories and commenting occasionally, all the while telling myself that i was still a dub and would never change.

at the beginning, i was really just curious and also wandering if people out there grew up like i did (in an orwellian hell), and had experienced what i had experienced.

It took me awhile to feel comfortable with the holidays and birthdays. Just let it happen naturally, don't push it, but don't fight it either. If someone gives you a gift, say thanks and move on.. when you are ready you will want to buy them things and recieve in return. Before you know it you'll be helping decorate the x-mas tree and planning a surprise birthday party for your wife.

When I was first out it felt hypocritical to celebrate these things I had been against for so long.. now I just enjoy em :)

Congrats on breaking free, there is so much out there for you to enjoy!!

Calling all Cooks for your Thanksgiving Favorite recipes!

thanksgiving is now one month away and i like to get started trying new recipes.

i keep my old favorites but always do something new each year.. for those of you who love to cook, would you share a favorite with us?.

one of our's has been made every year for at least 35 years and its for the left over turkey.

Are the T.'s in the recipe teaspoons or tablespoons? could make a big differance :)

We like hot peppers and when we make our stuffing we add jalapenos and habaneros to the onions when we saute em. Really adds something to the turkey :)

that is what my mom told me when i got bit by a brown recluse spider.. i was in ohio, visiting my daughter and my mom was there trying to convert me back.

she even said if i go back, we would get custody of my daughter..... well....i drove myself there from ks and somehow had gotten bitten right before i left.

it was right between my eyes, and my head started swelling up on the way there.

I was bit by a brown recluse while I was a faithful JW.. so ppttt on your mom's theory!!

My bite was on my wrist.. swole up huge. We didn't have any money at the time (didn't make much doing janitorial) and no health insurance.. but there was a clinic that based payment on income. They cut it open (without pain killers) and sent me home with instructions to keep moist heat on it.. I still have the scar on my wrist where they cut it.. X marks the spot.

Sorry your mom was such a poop, not really what you needed!

Congregations Closing Down

i recently heard about a congregation that was "diabanded".

the publishers were reassigned to other congregations.

is this happening elsewhere or just a local thing?

Hall I used to attend had two congregations, now there are so few dubs left in that town they consolidated into one congregation and moved into a new hall the next town over.

And.. Welcome JUNI P... I noticed that was your first post, reading is fun, participating is better! :)

just wanted to ask a few questions about free thinkers.

how many of you feel you are truly a free thinker, not involved in some sort of group that has capes and drapes, or a "label"?

I had to ask my hubby if he was sneaking in here and posting as butters :) You sound just like him.

I was a JW for the first 27 years of my life and have been free of the shackles of any organisation since then (except the company I worked for, and I quit them a few months ago)

I don't care if it's religion, politics or corporate, all big orgs have propaganda and BS that they sell to the sheeple (we call em muggles) Anyone who buys their crap is letting themselves be told how to think. If you listen carefully and put everything through a BS filter you can occasionally hear some facts. But don't be to sure....

My hubby spent 6 months in Gothenburg, Sweden several years ago. He says everyplace has it's problems, but he would sure like to go back. Maybe someday.

And thanks for saying US instead of America. I get really sick of people equating the two. There are some Beautiful countries in America (yes, they have their probs, too) It cracks me up when someone is being all patriotic and going on about how wonderful it is to be an AMERICAN! I feel like asking which American country they are from... Panama? (not that there's anything wrong with that!)

Anyway..... yes, I agree that not enough people think for themselves. I do think that the majority on this board had to of thought for themselves at least once, or they would still be in the Org.
