  Double Speak

  towards the end of my time in the jws, i fianlly realized that brothers will say one thing, but actually mean another.

  after leaving the organization, the more i learned-the more i found out that there was more of this going on than i realized.

  what double speaks have you discovered?

  They say: we can think for ourselves, we just do not rely on independent thinking.

  What they really mean: We're baffling you with our bullshit so you're confused on how to think independently.

  The WT has more sides to it than a book of John Kerry quotes and a rubik's cube combined.

  (Hey, as long as we're getting political here, I think I should represent the other side ;) )

  i just purchased, at amazon.com, and i am anxiously awaiting the arrival of, two of raymond franz's books, crisis of conscience and the other one .

  christian freedom i think it was called.

  for those who have read them; would you please give some sort of brief review of these books and rate them either "

  I will have to disagree with the group in this topic. I would have to reccomend instead Blood on the Altar by David A. Reed instead. To me, that book brings to light more doctrinal blunders and legalistic actions by the WTS than anything Franz wrote. I find CoC to be a bit apologetic and soft.

  i've noticed that alot of jw youth that leave the faith in their late teens and early twenties become one of those 4 things, yet i haven't seen many in this forum.

  it might also be that i'm not here that often (380 posts since oct of '02).

  anyways, if there are any, speak up.

  I'm sort of more on the "gothic" side (God, that label used to be a good label.). You'll find songs by Inkubus Sukkubus, Lycia, a bit of Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Bella Morte, London After Midnight and Switchblade Symphony on my CD player and hard drive.

  And as of this summer, I've decided to quit patronizing Hot Topic.

  58. The WTS teaches that the 144,000 of Rev 7:4 and Rev 14:3 is to be taken literally. If these passages in scripture are to be taken literally, then the 144,000 are all literally male (Rev 14:4), Jewish (Rev 7:4-8), virgins (Rev 14:4). Was Charles Taze Russell a Jewish virgin?

  Actually, you may not be far off. If you read either Endtime Predictions by Richard Abanes or Blood on the Altar by David. A. Reed (I can't remember which book.) it mentions CTR not consumating his marriage with his wife. Not to mention too that CTR was Jewish. Maybe he's going into heaven afterall!!!

  Then they learned, to their chagrin, that dihydrogen monoxide H2O for short is the scientific term for water.

  "It's embarrassing," said City Manager David J. Norman. "We had a paralegal who did bad research."

  The paralegal apparently fell victim to one of the many official looking Web sites that have been put up by pranksters to describe dihydrogen monoxide as "an odorless, tasteless chemical" that can be deadly if accidentally inhaled.

  As a result, the City Council of this Orange County suburb had been scheduled to vote next week on a proposed law that would have banned the use of foam containers at city-sponsored events. Among the reasons given for the ban were that they were made with a substance that could "threaten human health and safety."

  The measure has been pulled from the agenda, although Norman said the city may still eventually ban foam cups.

  "If you get Styrofoam into the water and it breaks apart, it's virtually impossible to clean up," Norman said.
