who signed your blood card?

two elders in my congregation signed mine bc hubby couldn't bear the repercussions of either 1- saving my life by allowing the blood transfusion, which would probably lead to him being df'd, and 2- me dying bc he did not allow the blood transfusion and having my parents call him a murderer.. isn't that so nice?

when i most wanted him to represent me, he didn't have the guts, even hypothetically.... so, who signed your blood card?.

I burned mine justrecently. It felt realky good. Later that night i smoked my first cigar... I wanted no trace of that idiocy. I'm happy you guys never signed yours.

Bumpy weekend ahead

so my sister is coming to stay this weekend.

although i'm sure she knows i'm not going to meetings, i don't know whether she realised i will not be going to any more meetings.

not looking forward to that time on sunday when i tell her she's going on her own.

If she does decide to go without you, just make believe like you fell behind in setting up her surprise. That way you don't seem like you are purposely avoiding it... I don't know... just a thought... :-)

JW's planning for retirement

i had an interesting discussion with a jw family member recently and he brought up his plans for retirement.

according to his age bracket, this will not be for another 20 years or so.

he plans to buy land, build a house, move the parents nearby.

The mentality now is that as long as you dedicate your life to Jehovah and do all that the organization requires, then basically you can do whatever you want-- have kids, travel, and plan for retirement. I had friends that go on luxurious trips, buy houses in the uppity neighborhoods. Im assuming retirement is in that category. Certainly some of the older former Bethelites have saved for their children's college education and their own retirement. Who cares about Armageddon? It's background noise, unless the noo lite has changed things.

help with sociologist friend...

i have a friend who is a sociologist.

this person does research on being gay and mormon, and will shortly come out with a book.

we had a lengthy discussion about cults (in general, and jws in particular), and basically the sociologist believes that all religions are cults.

Thank yiu everyone for the debate and all the suggestions. I am going to take snippets from what many of you wrote to continue the conversation with my friend.

Ihave been thinking alot and I believe that it is necessary to understand the impact that high control abusive groups play on individuals' lives. My friend sounds like he wants to be an advocate for gay Mormons. If that is the case, breaking out of the strictly sociological perspective and into the psychological will be important. There has to be an understanding of the dynamics involved.

My daughter has been officially dfd, unfortunately...

unfortunately she still does not know ttatt... the good thing is that my wife (her mom) is not shunning her!.

i gave my daughter love & comfort and told her that nobody is ever going to divide us, i might not be happy with all of her choices and decisions but i just want her to be happy.

my family is still asleep and still thinks this is the truthtm and my wife wants her to come back.

Honestly, it took the loneliness from being df'd for me to find out TTATT. I had so many issues as to how things were working out in the congregations I was in, but it did not make me question the organization as a whole. The misery from beng df'd and alone woke me up.
