  JW Prayer vs. Christian Prayer

  we studied for a few years with the jw's.

  the public prayers were often an endurance test, while holding exhausted babies.

  to be honest, i have forgotten the jist of most of their prayers.

  Idk why so many here see prayer as a cop out. It doesn't have to be. I appreciate hearing those words bc to me they communicate that the person cares about me and my well-being. I see it as sending good vibes out to the universe. Why not do this? Bc of superstition, you say? Please! Not everything needs to be black and white. Let ppl feel and share. That, to me, is one of the important functions of prayer.

  as a heads up for those who are present for the wt study of january 12, 2014, this thread has information and links to material that has an impact on that study article.. pages 12, 13, pp.

  9-14 is a subtitle dealing with a supposed future cry of "peace & security.

  " for a detailed analysis with comments on numerous aspects of that subject see this thread.. this post on page two of this thread has a copy of the above wt sub-title dealing with the "peace & security" prophecy as the wt understands it..

  saw one of the sisters in my ex-kh having a study with a young girl (say 17 or so).

  i think they were looking at the "draw close to weasel head book.

  got this email from my sister today.

  there is a lot of back story, and this isn't a surprise.

  it will be interesting to see how it affects the rest of the family, if they hear about it or not.

  I was a convert, and I took it all very seriously, all the way up to the day I was df'd in February and beyond. July was my last meeting, and that was with the help of this site. It is true, converts are indeed more zealous than born-ins. It just matters to us too much! It will be some time, unfortunately, before your sister comes back to you. I'm sorry :-( :-( :-(

  Today's WT study

  so as i looked at the material i was struck by a few thoughts about this article.. par.

  6 glossed over the idea that we can pray for ourselves, or our needs.

  9-11 on one hand they say jesus did not harshly criticize peter or the apostles for falling asleep instead of praying continually, and on the other hand make veiled threats if we should feel tired out by life.

  Prayer helps to relieve stress. Also, we are supposed to act in accord with our prayers. Act = action! Prayer is not some lazy man's version of helping our neighbors or the community.

  1) vegetation made on day 3, animals formed day 5,6, but- then.

  in gen 2, man seems to be the primary creation, and vegetation and then animals were formed from the dust and brought to him to name them.

  I'm sorry, but now that I see that the bible reading is back on Genesis, it reminds me that this would have been my third time through the readings... isn't it 7 years to finish the Bible according to this schedule? That's how I marked time in the bOrg. I got out just before the end of the secobd time through.

  5 it is right to hate the wrong committed by the disfellowshiped one, but it is not right to hate the person nor is it right to treat such ones in an inhumane way.suppose, then, a member of a christian congregation boating on a lake were to see another boat containing a disfellowshiped person capsize, throwing the disfellowshiped one into the water where he struggled to stay afloat.

  What articles/ "new light" has replaced this line of thinking? I know we've discussed on this forum. WT articles that say not even email communication.... But I'd like to send this snippet to former friends and family, to encourage them to think. Would they even know that "new light" replaces "old light" in this regard? I've found that jws are so dumb with regards to their own theology.... Also, can I get this snippet without any underlining?

  I am sorry you are going through this, but I am happy that you gave yourself the opportunity to express how you feel and what you think to your family. I do aappreciate how throughout your message you exclaimed, "Think!" So many refuse. Perhaps one day, after time spent without her sibling and nieces and nephews, she will "Think!" It takes a jolt, sometimes a series of jolts, for movement to begin.

  I hope you have found peace in the fact that you expressed yourself. Good luck to you. And plz continue coming onto this forum for support and encouragement. We understand.

  Breyers is not allowed to call it's product "ice cream" anymore by the FDA!

  many other so called ice cream at grocery stores as well.

  have you noticed how it seems to be different than from a couple years ago?

  that it doesn't melt, it just warms up and becomes like a whipped cream texture?
