The true meaning of "Jehovah" and the "overlapping generation" REVEALED!
by slimboyfat inthere has been some renewed interest in the meaning of the name jehovah on the forum in recent weeks.
combined with the ongoing discussion about the new "overlapping generation" teaching, speculation among the friends and among the ex-friends has been reaching something of a frenzy.
so it's perhaps appropriate that a little more should be revealed now about the meaning behind some of the perplexing events that have been taking place.

Jehovah's Witnesses, size, and the true religion
by Laika ina lot of the arguments jehovah's witnesses make in favour of their religion can only work because they are a very small religion and are spread so thin.
nowhere in the world do jws make up any kind of majority or even significant minority in any country or city.
considering how jws would have to work with larger populations exposes these arguments, for example:.

A lot of the arguments Jehovah's Witnesses make in favour of their religion can only work because they are a very small religion and are spread so thin. Nowhere in the world do JWs make up any kind of majority or even significant minority in any country or city. Considering how JWs would have to work with larger populations exposes these arguments, for example:
'We are the only group that preaches the good news!'
Imagine if a country's population embraced the JW message in such a way that as much as a third, or even just a quarter became JWs. How would the preaching work in that country? It wouldn't! If every JW went out preaching the territory would be covered in well under an hour every Saturday morning! Add in pioneers and the requirement for MSs and Elders to get 10ish hours a month, and the preaching work would be ridiculous, houses would be called on every few hours or less. There would be outrage among non-JWs and the Society would have to bring in new rules allowing only a few select members to preach door to door, and take away the reporting requirement for counting it's members in this country.
'We don't get involved in politics!'
Again, JWs don't generally have to! But what if over 90% of a country was JW, or the whole 100%, they would have no choice! They would have to have politicians decide how much you will be taxed, what that is spent on. Would this mean they were putting faith in men rather than in God?
JWs also like to criticise other religions who restrict their religious freedoms with their political power. How would the JW country deal with freedom of speech and worship? What would be the response to apostates printing their articles in newspapers? Could Ray Franz's books (or Harry Potter!) exist in a JW state library? Would evangelical and Catholic missionaries be allowed to preach in their country without fear of harrassment? What would happen to df'ed members? It is horrible just to think about it!
And where would they get all their University trained professionals (i.e. Doctors) guess they would have to make exceptions!
'We don't get involved in war!'
Well, even in a full JW country you don't have to have a military. Not all countries do, and JWs would deny they would ever do this. But they would certainly have to get involved in foreign politics, and if a neighbouring country declared war would they really not petition the UN or some other evil group to protect them, with force if necessary? I can't believe they wouldn't, and how could they then look down on soldiers when they had them fighting to protect them?

Here's what I learned at our DC.....

Pretty much the only teaching all Jehovah's Witnesses/Bible students have had in common in their 140 year history is the belief that the end will come soon enough that they will never die. How can it be wrong to say 'You know what, it might not come in your lifetime, maybe you should plan for retirement.'? Bastards.

So what IS wrong with higher Education?
by LoisLane looking for Superman inare the governing body, 8 pope-ettes, just jealous?.
what group of people doesn't want their finest minds to be educated?

My parents aren't Jehovah's Witnesses, but i chose to be one. Im thirteen and Im going to go to the Duke University. ill still attend the KH and go out in the ministry, but Im still going to college. As long as i keep God on my mind and in my heart, I can get as high an education as i want.
Good for you GRexBolt, you are absolutely right, you can get as high an education as you want and still keep God in your mind and heart. Go for it and don't let anyone, elders or otheriwse, tell you anything different!

Too much freedom. The ideal in Watchtower World is to live at home with your JW parents until you are married to a JW. Going to University can interrupt that.

Genuine repentance - if you can fake that you'll avoid getting disfellowshipped
by slimboyfat into paraphrase a well known saying.
is it true, in a judicial committee, if you can fake repentance, then they are likely to let you off being disfellowshipped, almost regardless of the "severity" of the sin involved?
can former elders and perhaps victims of the process shed light on the matter?
-
Laika
It isn't about faking repentance, it's about accepting whatever you did as wrong and following the standards set by God. You can decieve man, but you can't decieve God."Let no man deceive you with empty words, for because of the aforesaid things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience."-Ephesians 5:6
Says the person committing a disfellowshipping offence by being on this board. :eye roll: (Matthew 7:1, 2)

Has There Ever Been a Mass Disassociation?
by Emery ini was thinking of how powerful a mass disassociation exodus would be if there would be 1 day out of the year where hundreds or thousands disassociated themselves?
i was wondering if this has ever been done in the past?
i've read about the dublin apostasy and james penton's congregation having over 80 people da themselves...but other than that not much..

When You Prayed...
by LoisLane looking for Superman inat night did you kneel by your bed, sit on the edge of your bed or pray while in bed?.
at a dear friend's house for dinner, one time in praying over the food he said, "jehovah god, we fall on our faces before you".. has anyone ever said that or done that?.
just lois.

I can't imagine many JWs falling on their face or even their knees during prayer, JWs don't like to show too much emotion in their acts of worship! Can you imagine a JW lifting a hand in the air during a Kingdom Melody or prayer? This is common in songs and prayer during evangelical services. OR laying hands on someone you pray for, that's common in the bible, but I've never seen a JW do it.
Sorry, I drifted a bit there! Answer: I used to sit on my bed. :)

Evolution is Crap, there I said it!
by Crazyguy inok i started another thread and every one jumped on me because i was trying to take the theory of evolution out of the mix and most here seem to believe in it so i will just say it.
the theory of major evolution is crap!
the theory is falling apart.

I am not sure if evolution is true or not. The Society seem to be wrong about everything so it wouldn't surprise me if they got this wrong... A lot of people believe in God and evolution.
