  Deception by Omission - The Good News

  perhaps one of the strongest ways to deceive someone is to repeat only one feature of a particular issue over and over and to never to explore the other facets of the same issue.

  mt.

  24:14 was repeated into my head thousands of times while growing up as if it was the only good news (gospel).

  Yan Bibiyan: So what, we take red eye flights in 3 piece suits? Sounds comfortable.

  Ha ha, when I went to an international convention in 2009 me and the 3 friends I travelled with were pretty much the only JWs on the flight and then coach from the airport who were not wearing suits. We were so embarrassed but we didn't predict that we would be expected to wear suits for a 9 hour flight!

  If I was going next year, I would definitely be breaking out the red skinny jeans.

  The 'good news' provided by the Watchtower Society is that you can live in a paradise earth if you can meet 'Jehovah's standards' (as arbitrarily decided by the Governing Body)

  For most JWs, they realise they are not able to do this, and so worry or even expect that they will be destroyed at Armageddon. This, therefore, is not actually 'good' news at all, indeed, it is actually quite terrible, the worst news imaginable.

  there is a weird peace I have when I realize that maybe I don't have to worry about an ongoing tally of my sins.

  tbf... Christians don't worry about this either, it's called grace.

  i was baptized in 1986 but soon after left the religion.

  theres a whole lot to the reasons why i left, but i left.

  Wow. There's a lot of angry people in here.

  You're right Corby, there is a lot of angry people here, but people are angry because they've lost friends and family over their beliefs, because children have been abused due to Watchtower cover ups and people have died or spent years in prison because of shifting doctrines.

  We are not who the Watchtower Society says we are, if you stick around you'll learn this for yourself.

  Noah's Ark and the flood

  so this morning i was thinking about a few things that hit me like a ton of bricks:.

  1. god destroyed the entire earth because man was evil - yet right after he destroyed them for being evil he said that he will never destroy all of manking again because the are evil.... 2. god asked noah to bring two of every kind on the ark.

  then he gets off the ark and sacrifices some of these animals.

  My first experience at KH

  when i first walked in, i was greeted by the jw who calls on my house.

  Ah, InChristAlone, I didn't see this thread before I posted on your other one...

  The focus of the entire talk and WT study seemed to be on taking in an accurate knowledge of God...but not about knowing or experiencing God. To me, this is huge. This difference affects how one views God and their relationship with Him. Having before experienced the power of God, or the Holy Spirit, I am concerned to have felt that void during my visit at the KH. This difference is what creates that need to do things so God will find you acceptable vs. doing things because God has already found you acceptable. I would have loved to have genuinely praised God during the songs, but I felt as if there was no praise being lifted at all. It was these things that I had the most difficulty with.

  You are very insightful sir, this is exactly right.

  Also, singing in Kingdom Halls is used more as a method of crowd control and a way of breaking up the meeting and giving people a chance to stretch their legs, rather than as a time to actually praise and worship God, as you noticed. Very few JWs take it seriously.

  Going to Kingdom Hall for first time

  since my family is out of town, and i am alone this weekend, i have decided to attend this once to see these things for myself.

  have no fear, i have absolutely no interest in joining.

  my goal is simply to better understand how to reach those who are on the inside, and i feel i could better do that by observing it.

  Those videos are brilliant, except for the smurf scene (obviously!) it is almost exactly like every Sunday meeting I ever went to, amazing how similar meetings are worldwide!
