Enjoyed reading that post immensely - however, evolution IS false, and sooner or later God's will on this earth WILL be done, and that means paradise restored. I have no bug with that. Just because I'm no longer a dub don't mean I reject all their teachings.

Witnesses are Spiritually Starving
by metatron inconsider the typical character of witness life: "spirituality" as a word is twisted and misapplied into a sterile life of dead.
meeting attendance and peddling magazines - instead of emphasizing active compassion and ethical qualities.
this tendency.

Do you have to resort to foul language Francois! We like to think most of us are still christians here.
If you ever were a JW, the vacuum left behind in your life certainly hasn't been filled with anything christian like since has it!

What's with such young "elders"?
by Gig inhow can the wts consider an unmarried man in his mid-twenties qualified to be an elder?
clearly the "theocratic" process of election by the holy spirit is not what's happening.
ever known any (too) young elders?

yea I used to resent having to listen to some pimply 24 year old nerd ministerial servant giving main meeting parts, or just slightly older cocky pet elders. Everyone congo seems to have one, the perfect little role model young up and coming male MS/elder and/or ministerial servants school graduate.
They are about as 'elder' like as pioneers are 'FULL TIME ministers'.

What Do You Think Is the Typical Attitude Of The Average JW Now?
by minimus indo you think that the average elder, ms, pioneer or publisher is different in attitude today?
would the witness of 10 or 20 years ago, have the same way of thinking as today's jw's?

I echo wannaexit's thoughts. Most seem to be more or less going through the motions. Many had the wind taken out of their sails with the 'new light' on the 'this generation' matter, and are secretly wondering why the system's dragging on so long. A growing number are losing their sense of urgency accordingly, interspersed with the odd moment of excitement created by international troubles and world developments that they imagine might signal that the end is close.
There are more and more who just drag their bodies to the meetings and sit their like lumps, with their spaced out far away expressions. Heck, having to endure all those meetings year after year, the same format over and over, would be enough to make someone become a zombie anyway. How can u keep any kind of genuine enthusiasm up, unless convinced in one's own mind that the end is 'just around the corner' like it has been for the past 100 years.

What Should have happened to the Watchtower

Fat chance of the Watchtower Org self destructing like this. They had 2.8% increase last year, and there will always be people attracted to the hope of eternal life on a paradise earth, so the numbers will always keep rolling in. They recovered from 1975 after a temporary blip, so any dip in numbers in the future would only be temporary. They will recover from the bad publicity re child molesters. I expect them to change their policy on child molesters lickety split as soon as any sign of decrease in publisher numbers becomes evident.
Any crash by the Watchtower will be at Jehovah's own hands when he judges the organisation soon, ala e-watchman style.

How I Help The Society Fake Its Statistics
by metatron ini'm a fake publisher.
i turn in a fake field service report.
i claim fake hours.
-
Noumenon
I never faked my hours, cause I think it's wimpy, hypocritical and basically lying. If I'm not gonna be a proper dub then I can still hold my head up and not be a liar. Why bother faking..that's cringing before men...get real.

Are all congregations the same?
by Sparks ini am english, and live in england.
my parents were witnesses,so i was dragged along to the local.
kingdom hall twice a week back in the early sixties.because i was forced to sit there on a rock.

Jesus said 'by their fruits you will recognise them'. There's certainly plenty of 'fruits' (kooky fruits) in the congregations.

I found your experience re the bodybuilding side of it rather puzzling, especially the purported directive from bethel that it is not ok if it is just a 'hobby'.
There is a friend in my former congo who i have known for years. He has never had many 'privileges' and has never sought to be a MS or elder, mainly cause he's just not the type and has always been a bit on the weaker side, but he has been majorly into bodybuilding for about 20 years now, and he has never had any trouble with the elders, except about 15 years ago when he was about 20 and got quite unbalanced with it, to the point of entering a competition for his region (where he came second). the elders had a wee chat and said he may be taking it a bit too seriously. He knew he was and backed off with the competition side of it, but frequents a local gym 3 times a week, talks a lot about it with other brothers quite a bit, and even works out with some of hte other younger bro's at him home where he has a lot of equipment. this brother is much loved by everyone and has never had any trouble since that time 15 years ago relating to his bodybuilding. You can tell he works out a lot cause he has massive arms and a large chest.
I also had an ex girlfriend in the truth who had an older brother who was in fact an elder, and who for years had done a lot of weight-training and body building. He had his own gym set up at home, and was quite big.
so it looks to me like the elders in your situation have adopted a pharasaic like attitude to your husband's 'hobby', and have gone beyond common sense, reasonable, and the scriptures in this regard. The bible does say it is beneficial 'for a little' so what could be healthier than a brother doing some bodybuilding, as long as it is not affecting him spiritually. It is in fact a great form of sublimation for all those randy young brothers trying to release some testosterone in healthy, morally safe ways. There was an article recently in one of hte Awake's I think about bodybuilding too, which i'm sure you've looked at.
But are you telling us the whole story? Was your husband entering competitions? Even if he did that is a conscience thing of course, and certainly no elders should be coming down on him for that even.

How to succeed in field service w/o really trying
by joe_from_kokomo inah, field service .
that joy of knocking on a total stranger's doors to try to sell them on your own religious doctrines.
isn't it joyful?
-

Actually the GB do go on field service, just like everyone else. Perhaps not all of them because some are so aged now, and some are busy with other responsibilities which obviously limits it, but they do go from door to door.
