It's good to get along. But it's nonsense getting along just for the sake of it; it's nonsese trying to get along. Truth matters, kindness does too, but it's not necessary to be kind with the truth. Now,minimus, why did you start a crappy thread like this one?

Do You Try To Get Along With Other Members Of This Board?
by minimus insadly, at times, we lose good posters because we have an acrimonious spirit.
i wonder whether we might actually debate or argue, simply for the thrill of trying to outdo the other person(s).
in the spirit of rodney, "can't we just get along?

by Brummie inan update on bill bowen & his meeting with the wt.....this is an eyeopener and a disgrace on the watchtower:.

I seriously doubt that the average jw realizes that a good percentage of his donations go to trials - not for the right to Spread The Good News of God's Kingdom..........but to keep the money in the WTBTS.
This is a good point, and specifically true, at least in one case. When the Society began using the phrase "advancing Kingdom interest" in relation to funds and donations, it was becoming clear that the expression had become so flexible as to mean anything the Society deems fit will advance kingdom interest. The average witness just don't know. And not a few witnesses will be severely disturbed if they knew their donations were being spent this way, including depositions for vile apostates like Bill Bowen.

[quote]As for the words “As world events unfold in fulfilment of Bible propecies, we gradually get an ever clearer picture]”. All this statement is showing that we will in the future definitely know the whole picture.[\quote]
So why don't the Watchtower shut up and let the future unfold on its own? Why say so much about the future, force people to structure their futures on that forecast, say the "interpretations belong to God" and add the caveat that you would get a clearer picture as the future unfolds? Watchtower has been a blind guide, and even you know what Jesus said would happen to blind guides and those they guide.

Have you ever tried to pay a compliment and got blasted
by larrynbabies ini know us men aren't the most clever people on earth but sometimes we say things that are meant to be a compliment and we get slammed.. my ex-wife was saying once, that she thought her hair was getting thicker and i, in my logical way was trying to figure out if this could really be true.
i then thought about the fact that she had recently lost wieght and without thinking any further i blurted out.... "your hair is not getting thicker your head is not as fat.".
this is a true story.

Do All Baptism Questions Have to be Answered Correctly in Order to Qualify?
by Scully ini'm curious about this, because it was fairly apparent that some newly baptized people didn't have a good grasp of a lot of the doctrinal points of jws.
mind you, doctrinal points vascillate quite a lot, so that's no surprise really, but you would think that the basics would be covered prior to allowing people to get baptized, wouldn't you?.
for instance, my brother-in-law's girlfriend didn't understand the ramifications of the blood doctrine when she got baptized (they wanted to get married in the kh, and unless she was baptized they wouldn't be allowed to do so).

It's not exactly about the questions and the answers to them. It's more, like Prisca said, a question of the student'sheart condition. Simon has summarised, with questions, what most regular elders would consider the "heart condition". Of course, a syudent who demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the basic JW teachings may be counselled to study some more.
IW, I think even many elders do not understand the basis of JW theology, or, cannot correctly reason about that basis. Many find it sufficient that the organization is "good", relative to the rest of Christinadom, and promotes moral ideas, is enough.

When A Friend Lies....
by pettygrudger ini have a question for you - what do you do when you catch a "friend" in a lie.
i have a friend who i haven't known for a long time....and so far i have "caught" this person in 2 lies (no one on this board, or any board for that matter).
lies that weren't necessary.

See, it's not true that if someone lies about little things, they'll lie about more important things. If a friend tells a lie that they knew wouldhurt you, that's bad faith. Some lies are told to protect the hearer;youmay not like this, but a good friend can have a good reason to do that. I will be careful with a friend who tells hurtful lies; and as friendship grows, the friend who lies to you will have to knwo you won't take it if you make that clear.

by minimus infor all the people here on board that post, i wonder whether you think you're pretty smart.
for the record, i think i'm no dummy.

Prisca,
you're probably right about math being an exacting subject. You're probably wrong about 3+5 being always equal to 8. Sometimes I think I'm smart;at other times I'm dumb. Depends on the subject, and of course, the company I'm in.

Sex in the New Book "Learn from the Great Teacher"
by AlanF ini just obtained a copy of one of the new releases from the summer jw district conventions, learn from the great teacher.
this book is oriented towards children, and frankly, is a stereotypical piece of propaganda from the "faithful and discreet slave".
in some ways the book is incredibly revealing, since it has to break down a number of ridiculous jw teachings into a form that even jw children can swallow, and when those teachings are put into simplest form their ridiculousness is evident to everyone but small children and stereotypically braindead jws.

Unfortunately the writer also seems to be unsure of the technical distinctions between "vagina" and "vulva", and "male organ complex" and "penis". The first terms comprise the whole, and the latter terms are merely part of the whole. When people engage in sexual play, they play with everything, not just the penis and vulva. The writer of the Watchtower material is either extremly stupid about sexplay, or is deliberately deceitful. I suspect the latter, since the Society got a shitload back in its face when it told the entire JW community about oral and anal sex back in the early 1970s, educating them in something most of us had never even thought about.
Thanks Alan for that (dis?)connection between violence and illicit sex. A few days ago, an elder had been trying to convince someone I know of this connection. He probably has read this book; I was unaware of the contents of the book. Perhaps, some JW find it easy as pie to read between the lines. I would think that rather than being deliberately deceitful (not that the Watchtower Writer in incapable of this), the Writer got into a ditch trying to be as simple as possible, assuming he's not stupid about sexplay in the firts place. It's a taste of what makes bad parenting advice/information and the inadequacy of governing body directions. Imagine talking to a kid for the first time about sexuality and using the contents of this book. And, about the "vagina, vulva", "male organ complex, penis" matter, I hope I'm right, will your comments be correct if we wrote "vulva, vagina" and "male organ complex, penis"?
Cheers,
h.

JWs who come here
by larc ini find it curious when jws come here.
i would not want to go into any room or place and debate people who knew much more than i do, yet they do it.
i guess the scripture, "pride goes before a fall" fits people like this.

Some JWs com ehere beacuse they're in doubt, or denial. Others might have become tired of the old, rehashed lines of answers they get when they ask questions. Others might simply be seeking some discussion. Others still might have the purpose of converting apostates destined for destruction, probably reasoning that it's better to attempt to save apostates than not to try at all. The reasons can be from the compassionate to the doubtful, and to the utterly stupid. And I favour treating them with dignoty, respect, and courtesy. I remember when I first came to this board: much a doubtful JW, already suspicious of the GB and their policies, already aware of the superficiality of the religion; but it was a scare reading opinions on these pages, especially the ones that came across as overly critical and abusive. I stayed because of beign used to distilling an opinion for substance and the accompanying frills. I doubt if the delicate sesibility of a JW scared of the sacred Organization and it's governing body can successfully do that. That is why we must be kind to JWs who visit. They might yet be helped to reason a little.
