my question may seem vague but if one decides to leave "the organization", why write a formal letter?
why not just leave and not have any further contact with the witnesses?
is there some legitimate legal reason for this or do people do this because the witness thinking has overtaken their logic?
I wrote a letter and would do the same again...
To me...and this is STRICTLY my grouchy old fart opinion....the "fade" is a cop-out.
I don't see writing a letter as playing their game, in fact I see it as taking control for my own decisions and actions. I decided when to leave and I made my reasons why very clear. I am now FREE...I dont have to hide my life or my christmas tree or anything else behind tightly closed curtains. I live a very public life...am active politically and could care less who sees me.
Did it come with a high price...you bet...my jw family, including my parents, shun me. That is their decision and I make it as ucomfortable for them as I can, not because I want to hurt them but because it is my way of trying to force them to acknowledge me and the hypocritical watchtower publishing company. They have to follow the jw rules...not me.
The people I know who fade always say they can't leave because of their family and friend who are still in and I understand the pain. But why live life sneaking around, hiding and looking over your shoulder for the big JC meeting if you get caught ? Whether it is the jdub's flip-flopping or someone staying when they don't believe or fading and hiding the rest of your life...living a lie is still living a lie.
You either believe or you don't and if you don't you should get out. You shouldn't expect to get all the fun stuff that goes with being "out" if you don't pay the fare and make it official.
I know that makes me a jerk to a lot of people and I'm sorry...but the price of being "free" is actually stepping up and being honest.
No free ride for this a***ole,

to all the mommy's out there...did you deliver vaginally or by c-section?.
i was fortunate enough to deliver both my children vaginally although i came close to a c-section with my son.
he was in the posterier position.
I was born by C-Section and the only side effect is that every time I leave the house I go out the window.
***oh sure...I see someone beat me to the punchline on this one -- LOL
for those at the apostafest in manchester, nh this weekend, or those that would have liked to have been there, would you be seriously interested in getting together later this year?
late summer or early fall?
after bug season but before it turns too cold??.
We'd be interested in trying again...since we missed the last one !
We do have plans to go away in mid october for our 15th anniversary but if we are in the area we'd love to come...since we're only like 35 mins away anyway ! LOL
has there been any "new light" recently about how to treat disfellowshipped family members?
my cousin got dfd a few months ago.
i noticed that she had been spending quite a lot of time at my aunt's (her mother, an active jw) home.
My parents have been told that if we all lived under one roof then they would not be required to shun me...just no talking about "spiritual matters".
Some of it may also have to do with her pregnancy..."family emergencies" and "special Circumstances" also change the shunning rules.

we've had several very interesting threads going on about how those of us who are still on the inside can work to open the eyes of the witnesses at the district conventions this summer.
since people have been making scattered suggestions on scattered threads, i thought we should start a consolidated thread here that lays all the options out on the table for those that want to be a part of it.
here are the ideas that have stood out in my mind so far (please add any that i have missed): .

just saw it, and it was great.. .
as a kid i thought i would never see this day due to the world being destroyed soon thingy!
I'm not sure if I am a cool dad or not but I am trying to build as many memories as I can before he tells me to go F*** myself. LOL
He actually calls me a "goofy dad" and before his last school function he took me aside and asked me to "Please try to be normal, just this once." LOL not sure if that is a good sign on my Coolness.

I spent 8.5 hours in line with my 7 yo son to see the latest at midnight on opening night. He was in full Darth Vader suit (including voice changer and new color changing light saber) and even got his picture in the newspaper.
I was a Star Wars geek when the first movies came out but had to hide it because it was not allowed but I have created a memory with my son that he will never forget.
anyone heading to the opening session tomorrow?
anyone already been to an exclusive screening?
anyone going in full jedi gettup?!!
Waited in line for 5 hours with my 7 yo son (see picture) who is a star wars geek just like his dad LOL.
Small theater....12:01am show had 400 seats....and we got 391 & 392...just a little too close.
The crowd made my boy feel like a star....He was in full Vader costume, complete with voice changing helmet LOL....posed for lots of pictures and the theater staff opened the doors at showtime (everyone already had their tickets at this point) and let "Lord Vader" lead the way into the theater.
What a great memory for my son...and for a sappy dad too ! LOL
for those here on the board that are in the usa there is a group looking for community volunteers.. the us corps of chaplains is a christian organization that responds to disasters and emergencies to provide support to victims and responders.
they also provide services to active duty service members, families and veterans such as supporting families while their loved ones are serving abroad and assisting with military funerals when a military chaplain is not available.
you do not need to be in the ministry to be involved as response assistance comes in many forms.
